Interesting to think about is Gerrit Cole's ability to opt out after next season. I mentioned it while watching the game yesterday with someone and Bob Klapisch wrote about it today: https://www.nj.com/yankees/2023/08/yankees-nightmare-continues-what-if-gerrit-cole-decides-hes-had-enough-klapisch.htmlReading 2004

Right, but the main point being would he opt out and leave the Yankees if next year is like this year.igotid88 said:I think he would have opted out even if we win the World Series next yearReading 2004

I still can't believe we are this bad. Last time they finished last in the AL East was 1990!
1990 New York Yankees: The total mess
During this season, the Yankees had a 67-95 record, which was their lowest moment in the American League and make them the worst Yankees team. Their season was a total mess. In 1990, Jesse Barfield was the best player for the Yankees. But the star outfielder never lived up to the expectations the Yankees had for him.
Don Mattingly had back problems all season, which limited him to just 102 games and gave him the worst stats of his career. The worst Yankees performance in years caused the team owners to fire manager Bucky Dent on June 6. The team was ready to play the Red Sox at Fenway Park when the sacking news was made public.
After a fight with Dave Winfield, owner George Steinbrenner paid a private investigator to find “dirt” on his star player Dave Winfield. MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent put a ban on the Yankees owner. Though he was initially banned for life, it was later reduced. Even worse, Steinbrenner was getting most of his information from a small-time gambler and racketeer named Howard Spira, who used to work for Winfield’s charity foundation.
The 1990 season was the worst in the Yankees’ history and they finished last after 24 years. It was their first last-place finish in the division era and the second most losses after 1912.

1966 team - jeez they had just won 5 straight pennants 1960-64. That's some extreme fair-weather fanning.
They were unable to fill the seats, which was a shame. On September 22, 1966, when the New York Yankees played the Chicago White Sox, only 413 people paid to be there. Seeing only 413 people in a stadium that seats 65,000 was very discouraging, and it might have been a good way to describe the whole 1966 season.

It always amazes me how stadiums in New York still get filled with the costs. If you drive to Yankee Stadium, it's 47 in the main garage across the street and 40 to park for a Mets game.Johnny Abruzzo said:1966 team - jeez they had just won 5 straight pennants 1960-64. a few weeks ago I brought my son to a Yanks game and couldn't believe that parking was $47! Don't forgot parkway, turnpike and gwb tolls. It's definitely an expensive stadium to go to. After that game we agreed to go to one game a year, next year I might take the train in. I just hate driving in the city, not fun.xavier mcdaniel said:

They charge us $25 for parking and the stadiums are specifically amidst a sea of parking lots. Surprised it's only $47 at Yankee Stadium. But yeah having to drive on the George Washington Bridge would end my desire to go there for sure. Naming that bridge after our first president seems like just punishment for him being a serial enslaver.mcgruff10 said:

I always liked how all the Philadelphia sports venues are in the same place. Years ago, I went to a Phillies day game and splurged for a Flyers playoff game, mostly because I was rooting for Brian Leetch with the Maple Leafs at the time.mcgruff10 said:

I have no clue if it's our bad luck but does Yankee stadium still have bp? I remember as a kid getting there early with my glove and waiting in right field for a nice shot. I actually got a ball opening day 1989 (I still have it). We've gone to a few games now, went in when gates opened and there is never bp.

The Yankees are typically on the field for about an hour before gates open, so you're likely seeing them wind up batting practice and the visiting team get set up for batting practice.mcgruff10 said:I have no clue if it's our bad luck but does Yankee stadium still have bp?
