I remember him having a bad slump year but I don't really remember the ovations. Either way, like you said, something like that happening organically is cool, but setting it up on Twitter...not so much. The Juggler said:
'03. Last year at the Vet. He went from being a .280 hitter with 37 homers the year before to barely cracking .200 but he was getting standing ovations every time he came up. It was crazy. Had the Sunday plan back then. Miss those days!Ledbetterman10 said:I don't remember this with Burrell. What year was this? And was he sucking and the fans gave him a standing ovation for encouragement or something?
As for Turner, I dunno, it seems a little patronizing. I'm not quite to point where I'd boo him every time he comes to the plate, but I wouldn't give him a standing ovation either.
Russell Wilson, who Turner's current situation most resembles, got booed on the jumbotron when he was one of the NBA Finals games in Denver. So much so that they stopped showing him on it after that. That's more Philly than Philly these days.
And ahh...The Vet. I can close my eyes and just feel all the soda and peanut shells stuck to the bottom of my sneakers as Mike Lieberthal fouls off a John Franco fastball.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. Ha - yeah I can see Steve Jeltz meekly grounding out to second, leaving Juan Samuel on 3rd to end the inning.Ledbetterman10 said:

06...I was not so have seen it referenced but not familiar with it. I get it, but it's not little league. Dude's not gonna start hitting because some fans cheered for him. I haven't watched a ton but it's not like he's getting booed off the field, is it? All very little league to me.The Juggler said:
Were you here when we did that for Burrell though? That was cool because it was organic and not set up by social media. I still like the idea though.Cliffy6745 said:No it's stupid and won't leave my damn Twitter.
Philly can be cornball central sometimes. COME ON TREY...SWING AND HIT THE BALL...YOU CAN DO IT0 -
Whatever dude. We are the city that's seen some stupid video from the 60s about snowballs and Santa Claus played on national TV about 24 million times and we're really fucking sick of it. Also we are stuck with the guy for 10 1/2 more years so we all better get used to him.Cliffy6745 said:

haha, so it's cheer for him now so if he sucks for the next decade we can boo the shit out of him and point to the standing O to pat ourselves on the back?!?
Dude didn't forget how to play baseball. He'll be fine. Players have bad years0 -
I'll be honest, folks....the fact that Cliff hates this idea so much makes me want to see it happen even more now.www.myspace.com0

lololol...alright, now I am all in. I thought Philly was the city of champions, juggs? Between the enormous rings for winning the NL and standing ovations for guys batting .090...maybe it's the city of participation trophies?
For the record, as I stated above, Turner will be fine long term and he doesn't need a couple claps to make himself feel shittier about himself.
