Thank you so much for this thread!

I think E Ruth II from '06 is worthy of being included. But I was there so of course I'm biased.

For shows I was not at, I would nominate Osaka and Champaign from '03. Great sound and setlists on both. Champaign has great spirit and cool covers.

    Thanks again LMM!

  • I need to separate the first 2 posts in this thread. I can't add any more shows to the #2 post, i've run out of characters. So, i'm going to make the first post into the Epic shows post, and the 2nd post into the memorial shows post. Give me a day or 2, i'm back at work now after a few days off, and won't have as much time.

Quite simply, the most amazing crowd PJ has played to. Anyone who thinks the crowd makes no difference to their enjoyment of the show hasn't listened to the boot to this show, or seen the vids of the second night. Talking to the people who were there then, and it's apparent that not even the extreme crowd loudness on the boots have done justice to the fans. You put this on, and can't help but feel humbled about how the crowd at your 1 show (or 140) sounds positively shite compared to the one there that night.

The setlist and show length aren't the focus here. It's all about what a rabid crowd can bring to a show.

Even Ed said they should be paying the crowd for coming to the show.

well get on it, bitch!!!! :)

just kidding. you're the man. each morning since Friday I go downstairs and put on a different boot (this mornig was the 07 Chicago show for ten club members). My wifes like how many times can you listen to that?!!!

I go they're live so each ones a bit different. she loves PJ but she's not a music nut like I am.

    LMM,

thanks again for Uniondale, NY 03. I think that version of even flow is one of the best lives ones I've heard.

  • I think in addition to downloading all of these boots, a good project will be to identify which performances of each song are the best among all of the memorable and epic shows. maybe that's an idea for a seperate thread. to see what peoples opinions are. that would be one hell of a live compilation. for example. I would iclude Even Flow from Uniondale 03. but that could change since i don't have them all yet.

Yeah, I would have to agree. Part of the experience being the essence of the fans, this would be the one to showcase from a non-English speaking crowd, or any crowd for that matter really. Pretty average setlist but an insanely loud and appreciative crowd.

The audience recording that has been circulating for years of this show isn't that good so here's a boot I made that sounds a little better. Three tracks are the Oceans B-sides (Why Go, Alive, Deep) and the rest are clips from youtube (which are from a Dutch TV broadcast) that I converted to mp3. those tracks are in mono because all youtube clips are in mono. hit it up.

oh yeah, the first song, Evenflow, is cut and begins as the guitar solo is ending. I never said it was going to be pretty. but the rest is really good and light years better than the boot of this show that I've heard.

    06/08/92 - Pinkpop Festival: Landgraaf, Netherlands [45m]
    Attendance: 60,000
Set: Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Deep, Alive, Black, Leash, Once, Porch, Suggestion/Pulled Up, Rockin' in the Free World
Notes: PJ's largest live audience to date. Show was broadcast on Dutch TV. 'Pulled Up' is a Talking Heads cover, perhaps a mini-tribute to David Byrne, who also played at this festival. Awesome versions of 'Alive' and 'RitFW.'
