Harden expected to go to Houston....what a blessing for you guys. I cant stand his game, its effective to a degree, but it gets exposed in big games
Plus, he's not getting any younger. His game has definitely slipped the past few seasons. he has flashes of the old Harden, but it's far from consistent, and only likely to degenerate further as time goes on.

The beard is a ploy...to keep defenders a few extra inches back....who wants to go up against that? Prob has a lil of last nights dinner in there

Without James Harden that series would have been the most embarrassing sweep in franchise history. We’d probably be talking about trading Embiid right now.

I mean it's all hearsay at this point, but regardless it's an inevitability he's opting out. That doesn't necessarily mean he's definitely going to Houston, but he's for sure opting out.

    I know I haven't read/heard he officially opted-out yet.

I guess the only way he doesn't opt-out if he doesn't think he can get a Multi-Year Deal? (If he does get a Multi-Year deal, it better not be from the 76ers)

I mean he doesn't opt out if he thinks he gets less than 35 (or whatever the amount is) in guaranteed money. But he's definitely getting at least that on the open market.

I think the best outcome for everyone would be for the sixers to sign him to a max deal (if he realistically gets it) and then do a sign and trade.

someone needs to explain a sign and trade to me.

I mean, I get that they sign him and trade him but the why? is what I don’t understand.

    Basically because of salary cap.
Lots of teams won't have the cap room to sign KFC as a free agent. His existing team (Sixers) can go over the cap and sign him using Bird rights, then trade him to a team that wants him/he wants to go to, the trade might net the Sixers a player back, or possibly a trade exception for possible later use to match salaries in a different trade.

    clear as mud. thank you.

can’t the sixers also pay him the most and KFC would want that?

edit: the sixers would do this just to get rid of him, basically? so they wouldn’t even have to honor his option year if no one else takes him off their hands?

Basically. The option is a player option, but I would think Harden only exercises the opt-out if he knows he's going to guarantee himself more than 35M. Which I'd say has a 99% chance of happening.

Of course, this could all be moot because no one's going to come close to offering him a max deal anyway (though I could surely be wrong). But I would think this would be the only way the Sixers get any kind of assets back for Harden walking (with a sign and trade).

If they can make this happen tho I think I hold steady with Maxey and Jo for 23-24, trade Tobias and hope you can regroup for 24-25.

People keep talking about Lillard but I just don't see how that happens. I don't see the pieces to give up.

Nice. Yeah I think I'm buying into the "this is exactly what the Sixers need" narrative, so this works for me. If he wears these guys out then so be it. Go convince me you can win something.

Would have to assume Nurse being hired officially ends the Harden era in Philly. Can't see him wanting to play for a coach like Nurse. Can't expect a player of his stature to play defense.

Should we all overreact to Van Fleet eluding to wanting to come here? I would absolutely take him over Harden right now if James is looking for more than two years.

I think the only way we can get him is if there's a sign and trade for Harden. Maybe the Suns?

People keep talking about Beal....but then who would play point? And that contract...oooph

I like Van Fleet but the problem there is our backcourt would be so incredibly small with him and Maxey.

Good options are in short supply at the moment...

Oh for sure, I preface the above based on the fact if they can do something mutually beneficial with Harden.

I'm excited by someone like Van Fleet basically because the supply is scarce.

Couple middling Toby trades might be brewing.....Bogdonovic or maybe Prince, Theis and 26th pick? Freeing up cap space..

Also heard they kicked the tires on a PJ for Grayson Allen/2nd rounder deal the other day.

We shall see. I know Morey's gonna try to get into the late first or second round tonight.

Harden supposed to make a decision today, free agency begins tomorrow, and I have ZERO Sixers content on The Athletic.

Horrible. Might not even be worth the $2 a month I'm paying now...

Well, now. This seems interesting and unexpected. I think it's the best possible outcome for both parties. Woj saying the Knickerbockers and Clips are interested...

Not speaking specifically about Harden, I'm just sad that they have never been able to have some continuity with the core of this team around Jo.

Wait wasn't this sorta the sign and trade scenario I was hoping for?

I mean not *exactly* what I said, since he can't be extended. BUT this has to be the best case scenario for the Sixers outside of that.
