10 - Really love my Job
The great part is that inspections only happen for the most part in fall or spring so that nobody has to be inside of a giant metal box during the extreme temps of summer and winter months, so there is a built in end to the travel season. And the work is required by insurance companies and codes to keep the facilities running so it will be there until we move away from using industrial boilers.tempo_n_groove said:
Traveling on and off was always fun until it was all travel and no off, lol. Getting paid to see the world is why I did it for so long.static111 said:I got a new job a few months ago as an industrial boiler inspector, Power Plants, Paper Mills, etc. I'm loving it. 3 months on 3 months off and making much more money than I was at 40 hrs a week 52 weeks a year. Plus I have a great boss, get to travel all over the world and sometimes work with cool people.

Now I'm the beer manager at Omaha's largest and best craft beer, wine, and specialty spirits store.
Yes I get to drink a lot of cool stuff for free.
No I can't get you any Blanton's.0 -
7I would say I’m satisfied with my job given the amount of work I do. It’s just that it’s extremely boring and annoying work and there’s not much motivation in getting it done.Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250

LOL @ the Blanton's comment. I briefly worked at a huge liquor store here in KC and that's all everyone asked about.Bentleyspop said:Retired from my "adult" career which I grew to hate, almost 20 years ago

I think it's great when you can find it for MSRP. I've only been able to purchase it at the Buffalo Trace distillery....never seen it on a shelf

I'm not much of a bourbon drinker. I like it but I also know that as a single barrel it varies from batch to batch.
Most bottles purchased by the "bourbon bros" are sitting on shelves collecting dust and never opened.0 -

6There is a big liquor group in my area that tends to make a lot of the allocated bottles available via raffle. It's kind of a cool thing but also kind of a pain in the ass to have to do it this way. It must work for them though.
I assume they still have a few special customers that they set some bottles aside for but I could be wrong.

A lot of the rarer bottles go into the vault for future ticketed events, raffles, and loyalty member allocation events.
The rest go behind the bar for pours and get put out on the shelves on random days at random times.
We put out a case of Buffalo Trace yesterday and 2 bottles were still out this morning.
We very rarely hold any for "special" customers.
We tried many different ways of handling the allocated bourbon and no one was ever happy.
The bourbon bros are some whiney bitches.0 -

This same group always does a Whiskeyfest that is fun to go to. It's like $50 for a ticket and you get a raffle ticket and they have samples that you can drink and a little appetizer type buffet. I go with my wife and last year she got a bottle of Stagg, Jr and I got a Weller Antique.darwinstheory said:

Year before that she snagged a Col Taylor and I got some not so rare bottle because I was really at the back of the raffle draw.
You have to purchase the bottle at retail when it's your turn to pick....kind of a cool way to do things. You might score big and might end up with something not too hard to get but it's fun.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)
