Seems like a better way than to create an unessascary hurdle for the citizens.

I would image the US authorities and services are scaled to the population? Or do you run a e.g. post office in the US fitted for a Swedish population but servicing 331 million people?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

You don't have a "civil registry" in the states?Post edited by Spiritual_Chaos on"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

Okey, in Sweden you are registered to an address. And if you move, you notify the tax agency the new address. This also makes all the mail to come to the right address - from your bank, the tax agency etc -- because they pull it from this civil registry. I would imagine kids are automatically registered on the address of their legal guardian is.
So, if you move in the US you have to contact every agency that send mail your new address manually?
In Sweden you get a social security number at birth - YYMMDD-XXX
Sounds medieval to not have one... haha...

Edit, you have to notify your county or your city for the voting change. It's only one notification on voting. Everything gets updated for state and federal elections. At least that's how it's been for the states where I've lived.Post edited by mrussel1 on0 -
Ah okey. Here, when you notify of an adress change for the civil registry you can pay a smal sum to also get forwarding through the post office for a year."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

Latest poll. Results in bold, difference from the election results in 2018 below it.
Summary of what is happening, closing in on the election (sep 11).
- The Social Democrats (S) is going past 30 percent.
- The traditional opposition party to The Social Democrats - The Conservatives (M) is getting worse and worse number in each poll and is now smaller than the racists in the Swedish Demcorats (SD), making the power balance between the two quite different.
- The Centre Party (refusing to allow The Left Party to be a part of the government) and The Left Party (demands to be a part of the government) are now the same size.
- The limit to reach parliament for a party is 4%, which both The Green Party (MP) and The Liberals (L) have dipped below earlier this year, so interesting to see how safe or unsafe they are in the polls.
The "left side" now has 51,2%
The "right and racist side now has 47,3%Post edited by Spiritual_Chaos on"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Bad news. In the latest poll the right wing is winning:

1 it costs money and
2 believe it or not some people can’t get one
older black Americans in the south were not allowed in white hospitals so they were born at home. Not all counties would even issue them a birth certificate
without a birth certificate you can’t get an id with the new ID requirements. The process to retroactively get a birth certificate is time consuming and complex
if you have lived 70 years without one a lot just don’t bother. They still have social security cards etcPost edited by Cropduster-80 on0 -
