that's why i was tied to the chair

Kylie have you been told you have to have the surgery under full anaesthesia? if you're given the option i'd highly recommend twilight sedation... you're in and out of the dental surgery in a couple hours, can't drive for a day or 2, but so much cheaper than a hospital visit.. maybe something to think about when Glenn's back? you'll be able to respond to questions and verbal commands during the op so maybe this'll help diminish the likelihood of mystery bruises

don't leave it too long.. :(
It was the dentists that treated poor Connor that told me I'd have to go into hospital......but i will NOT be letting them touch me, so will get a 2nd oppinion from another dentist :)
My chiro actually pointed out on X-Rays that 2 of my bottom ones are growing into my jaw bone and it will be a bit complicated and that quite often they have to break the jaw or accidentally fracture the jaw during those extractions

I will have to get it done as soon as possible. It's catch 22 at the moment....I can't have any time out to get it done, BUT with the way it was this time, I've been pretty much wiped out and useless anyway.

My poor little Connor had a tooth extracted a couple of years ago and I had to lay on top of him to hold him down while he screamed the place down.....it wasn't until I took him to the Dr.s the next day that I was told he hadn't been anaethetised :( I have never been so angry and upset in my life!!!!!! My poor little man.

The dentist had told me they'd given him 3 needles to numb him and he had.....but it was the Doctor that told me that the dentist could have given him 100 needles and they wouldn't have done a thing, because Connor had an abscess under his tooth which counteracts the anaesthetic. He said that the dentist would have known that, but was probably just in a hurry to get another patient through
To make it even worse.....Connors tooth probably didn't even need to be extracted....a course of antibiotics wouldve fixed it!

Fuck.....I still tear up now, thinking about what he went through that day.....looking at me as if to say "why are you letting him do this to me Mum?" :( People in the street would have heard him, he was screaming so loud.

    :( oh my gawd..

poor Connor, absolutely no one deserves or should have to go through that... is he ok with dental visits at present?

eew tooth stories. I have two wisdom teeth that are (sorry to digust) pretty much just rotting away. a) i don't have money to get them out b) don't have time and c) the most important one.... i have a phobia of choking on those little cotton rod doodad things they shove in your mouth. I don't want to choke to death in a dentist chair. Sounds hilarious, but it's a real phobia :0

It was barbaric Stella :( absolutely broke my heart. Ya think you can trust the advice being given by a proffessional - I'm not a dentist and trust that they are telling me the truth.

.....and NO....he is petrified of dentists.....I have to go with him whenever the school dental van visits.....very traumatic every time - understandably.

Geez my wisdom teeth are giving me hell :( I had pertty much no sleep last night and I can see it happening again tonight. The whole right side of my jaw is throbbing!! My ear is throbbing.....my glands are the size of friggen golf balls - I feel like shit!!! They do annoy me every now and then, but this is the worst it's been. I hate taking pain killers, but I've popped so many and they're doing bugger all.

    Whinge, moan!! over :D

it amazes me how poorly so many people do their jobs.. ultimately it just leads to needing more help, as with my antibiotics mistreatment from the spidey  bite

Sairs....I think you were just one of the lucky one's. I know of a lot of people that have had the same kind of experience as Rob's Mum, in the last few years. It all depends on how complicated the extraction is and the dentist doing it. All sorts of bruises when they come out of anaesthetic.

He said that the dentist would have known that, but was probably just in a hurry to get another patient through

this is why GPs arent dentists.. antibiotics wouldve put a temporary "band aid" on the situation.. and the pain would be back within a week or 2. the cause of the infection has to be removed.
any more than 3 needles on a little tacker and you at risk of overdosing him. the doctor would know that.. i would hope.
and yes, the pH of the surrounding area of an abcsess does counteract the anesthtising effect... but 3 carpules in a small child is a lot and would have anesthtised the area almost completely.
the other option would have been referring him to hospital to have it out under general anaesthetic.
possibly a pulpotomy (root canal for kids) wouldve done the trick, but this depends on the size of the infection.

i've had to do this to 1 little fella and it was the hardest thing ive ever had to do, but if the tooth isnt removed, then a facial swelling can increase. a facial swelling can spread under the jaw, block the airway and kill the patient. if it spreads from an upper tooth, it can reach the venous plexus, flood the bloodstream with bacteria and give the patient scepticemia... which can again result in death. these are rare, but not impossible.

at least the tooth is out.. wouldve been best if it was taken out under GA, but sometimes we dont have that luxury on hand. the bad thing now is his dental phobia. hopefully he overcomes this with age.. but it aint easy.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.
