Silly logistics question but is there any chance I could catch the 11:30pm train out of Penn station and still see the entire show? I went to MSG years ago and don't remember if there is a curfew.
You might have to be heading towards the exit by the final song, but since MSG is above Penn Station, you should be ok. Of course this show being on the anniversary of Sept. 11 might be a little longer in terms of time.

I remember once barely barely catching an 11.45pm Penn Station train after a roaring PJ show at MSG, with the next train at 1.15am. Ouch.

I believe they are stricter with their outdoor shows like fenway regarding curfews.

That's certainly plausible. I worked years ago into the early overnight and often it was a race to make those trains to avoid a two-hour gap.

Seriously though if you need to catch an 11:30 and want to stay for the end of the show ~11, you should definitely move to the 100-level concourse, ideally as close to a corner as you can, for the encore. If you’ve never been before, the critical thing to know about MSG for your purposes is that it doesn’t have ramps between levels - everyone gets up and down via four escalator columns, one in each corner. So if you stay for the end of the event, once the full crowd hits those escalators (really stairs as they’ll be turned off at that point) it gets to be pretty slow going.

Not sure which train you’re taking, but have a look at the Penn Station layout and try to figure out which side of the arena you want to leave from. I haven’t been in Penn since the renovations so I can’t help you there.

I feel like we always just miss that 1130 train. The wait for the next one is tough plus the 1.5 hr ride home.  In 2016 we just drove.  Round trip train tickets for my buddy and I were about equal to a garage and we were home exactly an hour after the show ended.

Good point. It definitely could but I’m imagining most of the restrictions will be earlier in the day.  Maybe it will clear up by late afternoon, plus it’s a Sunday so you’re not dealing with the normal commuter traffic.

The 2016 N2 fan views thread has surfaced on GtF, so I just took a look and that show ended at 11:20. So maybe ignore all that shit I said about concourses and escalators and make a different plan.

So where is the typical hangout for pre-show at MSG? I've been twice, but the first time we just hung out in my buddy's hotel room as we were short on time and had a cooler full of beers. In 2016 we went to Rattle & Hum which I see now is closed. Mustang Harry's seems to be the sports bar/popular spot and is sure to be mobbed (I assume most places will). Any suggestions from the locals?

I bet the Wishlist Foundation will have a pre-party setup somewhere close by.  That's what I'm waiting on.

Stout is across the street. Place was packed and they were playing live at the garden before both msg shows in 2016

Is it imperative that you pre-game before the show in a 2/3 block radius of MSG ? if not look at places in Hell’s Kitchen to hang out and eat.  So many good places.  Unfortunately many good ones have closed during or from the pandemic, so make sure if you find one that it is still open.  It’s a Sunday in NYC.  Will be less busy then a weekday.  But I would recommend finding a place away from MSG and just enjoy your company over a nice meal anticipating a great Pj show at MSG !!!

Since you have never been to MSG, and speaking from a perspective where I have seen concerts, basketball, hockey, wrestling at MSG that you should truly enjoy and immerse yourself in the experience.  I would personally recommend getting a hotel and getting into the city around 10/11 am and enjoying your day in the city.  I like to sit in my seat and enjoy the atmosphere after a show and not ruin it with a pressing need to get out of the building and sprint to a train, or leave the show early to catch a train.

But however you do it I hope you enjoy the experience, that you have safe travels to and from the show !

    Just my 2 cents

I got MSG confirmation yesterday. I couldnt believe it. I caught them at Barclays both nights back in 2013 but The Garden has always been bucket list for me. Will be making the trip up from South Carolina!!

That's definitely the way I'm leaning.. seems to make the most logical sense travel-wise and a hell of a better time to boot.
