Silly logistics question but is there any chance I could catch the 11:30pm train out of Penn station and still see the entire show? I went to MSG years ago and don't remember if there is a curfew.
You might have to be heading towards the exit by the final song, but since MSG is above Penn Station, you should be ok. Of course this show being on the anniversary of Sept. 11 might be a little longer in terms of time.

I remember once barely barely catching an 11.45pm Penn Station train after a roaring PJ show at MSG, with the next train at 1.15am. Ouch.
I believe they are stricter with their outdoor shows like fenway regarding curfews.

That's certainly plausible. I worked years ago into the early overnight and often it was a race to make those trains to avoid a two-hour gap.

Seriously though if you need to catch an 11:30 and want to stay for the end of the show ~11, you should definitely move to the 100-level concourse, ideally as close to a corner as you can, for the encore. If you’ve never been before, the critical thing to know about MSG for your purposes is that it doesn’t have ramps between levels - everyone gets up and down via four escalator columns, one in each corner. So if you stay for the end of the event, once the full crowd hits those escalators (really stairs as they’ll be turned off at that point) it gets to be pretty slow going.
Not sure which train you’re taking, but have a look at the Penn Station layout and try to figure out which side of the arena you want to leave from. I haven’t been in Penn since the renovations so I can’t help you there.
I feel like we always just miss that 1130 train. The wait for the next one is tough plus the 1.5 hr ride home. In 2016 we just drove. Round trip train tickets for my buddy and I were about equal to a garage and we were home exactly an hour after the show ended.

struck out on tickets. Still iso of two. Please and thank you. @on2legs you think driving into the city on 9/11 will be a pia?
Good point. It definitely could but I’m imagining most of the restrictions will be earlier in the day. Maybe it will clear up by late afternoon, plus it’s a Sunday so you’re not dealing with the normal commuter traffic.

The 2016 N2 fan views thread has surfaced on GtF, so I just took a look and that show ended at 11:20. So maybe ignore all that shit I said about concourses and escalators and make a different plan.
So where is the typical hangout for pre-show at MSG? I've been twice, but the first time we just hung out in my buddy's hotel room as we were short on time and had a cooler full of beers. In 2016 we went to Rattle & Hum which I see now is closed. Mustang Harry's seems to be the sports bar/popular spot and is sure to be mobbed (I assume most places will). Any suggestions from the locals?

I bet the Wishlist Foundation will have a pre-party setup somewhere close by. That's what I'm waiting on.

Any suggestions on parking? First time to MSG.. debating on taking the train, driving or getting a hotel
Is it imperative that you pre-game before the show in a 2/3 block radius of MSG ? if not look at places in Hell’s Kitchen to hang out and eat. So many good places. Unfortunately many good ones have closed during or from the pandemic, so make sure if you find one that it is still open. It’s a Sunday in NYC. Will be less busy then a weekday. But I would recommend finding a place away from MSG and just enjoy your company over a nice meal anticipating a great Pj show at MSG !!!

Since you have never been to MSG, and speaking from a perspective where I have seen concerts, basketball, hockey, wrestling at MSG that you should truly enjoy and immerse yourself in the experience. I would personally recommend getting a hotel and getting into the city around 10/11 am and enjoying your day in the city. I like to sit in my seat and enjoy the atmosphere after a show and not ruin it with a pressing need to get out of the building and sprint to a train, or leave the show early to catch a train.
But however you do it I hope you enjoy the experience, that you have safe travels to and from the show !
I got MSG confirmation yesterday. I couldnt believe it. I caught them at Barclays both nights back in 2013 but The Garden has always been bucket list for me. Will be making the trip up from South Carolina!!

Just my 2 cents
That's definitely the way I'm leaning.. seems to make the most logical sense travel-wise and a hell of a better time to boot. Appreciate the input !

I got my Airbnb yesterday. I am planning on doing the exact same thing day of show since it will be my first MSG show. Will just uber back to BK after the show.

Hey @Jennsis So, I went back to double check the fanviews, and it lines up from what I remember leaving the venue both nights.
5/1/16 - Band Off Stage: 11:28pm
5/2/16 - Band Off Stage: 11:20pm
I think they got pegged with a fine both nights (anyone know? $10-25k?)
Ed was pretty good about wrapping the Beacon shows in Feb. around 11-ish, so if you take the stairs from whatever section you're in, a few steps later you could be at Penn in time for the 11:30. Go for it!

Not at all. We're taking the early train in from CT and should be at Penn St by 11ish. Hotel is right near MSG so need to check in at some point. We have reserved seats, so as long as we're in the building by 8ish, I'm fine with that. I wouldn't mind seeing Pluralone but I don't have to if we're sitting somewhere having a good time.
My buddy, however, is a poster nerd and will certainly want to be able to grab one whenever and wherever they are available. So that might change things a bit. Either way, we'll be there and have fun. Thanks for the input!

Dude!
Thanks for bumping that up. I don't think I've read that since shortly after I posted so it was cool to live it again! The one thing I forgot to add to that story was that when we got to our seats prior to the start, a couple asked us to switch seats with them. They had friends they wanted to sit next to and the seats they gave us were a little better view-wise as they were dead center in that row. Little did we know that Ed was going to stop directly in front of our new seats in a couple of hours. Turned out to be good trade!

Use a parking app like SpotHero. You just put in the app that you're going to MSG and it will show you a map of every garage in the vicinity and what the price is to park. You can pay more to park closer or save some money and walk a few blocks. It's pretty easy to use. Just make sure you read the fine print before you buy - some garages won't take SUV's because they don't have the headroom. And you can always cancel in advance and get a refund if your plans change.

This is great, thank you! Appreciate the tip on the SUVs too as I drive a lifted Jeep, lol

Any suggestions from the locals?
Stout is across the street. Place was packed and they were playing live at the garden before both msg shows in 2016
Stout is my go-to spot to pregame for msg shows. Very close by, and they always play music from whatever band is playing at the garden that night. The only downside is it’s a mob scene an hour or two before showtime. So if you want to get a table and order food, I’d recommend getting there early.

That was me, heh. I went to read the "Hold Your Ed Up" story again, and saw that it was none other than @on2legs
Amazing 🙌

I believe they are stricter with their outdoor shows like fenway regarding curfews.

My buddy, however, is a poster nerd and will certainly want to be able to grab one whenever and wherever they are available. So that might change things a bit. Either way, we'll be there and have fun. Thanks for the input!
I'm glad to hear Stout survived the pandemic. My favorite place before MSG!
