    I personally think we should be working to have more way for people to vote. This isn’t 1900….figure out how to do it all safely. And for the most part it was done safely in person and by mail.

    The worst part of all of this is wasting all this time (and $) on something that doesn’t need “fixed”.
    You can also add divisiveness to that list. Republicans are whining about voter fraud and Democrats are whining about voter suppression.

    I hope you understand the push on the federal side is to fight against the growing number of state laws that are seeking to restrict access and ease.

    Texas mail in voting qualifications are very restrictive

    To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

    • be 65 years or older;
    • be sick or disabled;
    • be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance;
    • be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or
    • be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

    Jesus. I had to double check to see if true and it is: https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml

    This is a disgrace. We made so much progress in 2020 only to see so many Republican led states take us backwards...
    That sucks that people have to make an effort to vote!

    Why should A right that is granted to every citizen need to be difficult to exercise?  Why isn’t the goal to remove barriers?

    We need barriers to ensure a fair election.

    Do we?  No evidence exists to prove that.  60 + court cases didn’t.  Kris Kobach’s silly Commission on Election Integrity dissolved early in the Trump admin without finding a single issue.

    Because there have been so many stolen and unfair elections, right? Voter fraud is rampant, right? Hundreds, thousands maybe 300 million according to the bite a pillow guy, in jail or should be. Disgraceful. Who should follow the US in its current state. North Korea, China, Russia. Who else?

    This isn’t new in Texas. When I moved here 5 years ago the voting by mail rules were the same if I recall correctly.

    i'm sure biden would bribe manchin and sinema to be on board with his agenda if he could, but you cannot compete with that outside special interest money. for all we know trump may be paying them as well. or the RNC..
    Maybe Manchin and Sinema don't believe in the agenda. Why is that so crazy to understand? Instead you attack them and accuse them of taking bribes. You do understand that not everyone is on board with the Biden agenda right? Being a Democrat doesn't mean you have to subscribe to everything your party believes.
    You don’t believe in voting rights for historically disenfranchised voters? Got it.
    Yes, I feel bad for all of those disenfranchised voters. We had more people voting in the 2020 election than ever before. That is proof we are already making progress.

    that's the point...there was progress and then the GOP started trying to make it harder for people to vote
    Voting laws are up to each state and it should remain that way. If you don't like your state's voting laws, you can push to elect new people or move out of the state.

    So if a state discriminates on who has access to the vote, how are voters supposed to vote out the politicians that tilted the scale in their favor?

    But they still have an early voting period. I don’t know what that looks like, but if registration is easy and locations are accessible, then I don’t see the big deal about the mail in voting.
    If it’s not easy and there aren’t enough early voting places, then I see the concern about mail in.

    I do think we need to make sure voting early is accessible to all, but that Texas reference above isn't accurate. I was surprised to see the many options Texas does offer for both early in-person voting and mail in voting after reading some of the statements made here.

    https://www.votetexas.gov/faq/early-voting.html

    Edit: I shouldn't say not accurate, but more doesn't paint the whole picture of options.

    Earlier yesterday someone admitted that it was great that so many more people were able to vote in 2020 and that progress was being made (the same election that members of Trump's admin called the most secure in our nation's history).

    Later that same day, here he is hailing efforts to curb that exact same progress.

    Make less sense next time. I dare you.

    Texas mail in voting qualifications are very restrictive

    To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

    • be 65 years or older;
    • be sick or disabled;
    • be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance;

    What sort of barriers ensure a fair election? Generally barriers to voting simply ensure that people who have the means to get over those barriers are able to vote and those that don’t, aren’t. Like almost everything else in our society, putting up more barriers just favours those of middle or higher socioeconomic class.

I dare you.

    yeah he had to change his tune once we pointed out that the new legislation could reverse the progress...GOP doesn't want progress
