I agree with both of you guys that it's a crisis rather than an invasion down at the border. And Halifax, you're not the only one that things Trump should stay out of the Smollett nonsense....

Priorities, you know? in this time of limited resources and belt tightening for the the benefit of the 1%. Jussie should have been told to take a number. Or maybe Betsy DeVos couold have offered a GoFundMe to pay for an investigation. But you know, priorities.

The simpler imperative is solving crimes when they occur, but Chicago falls woefully short on this obligation too. Last year, the Chicago Police Department solved only about 17 percent of the homicides committed. The clearance rate, as it’s called, for nonfatal shootings was an abysmal 5 percent.

There is a reason that Gotham City used Shitcago as a blueprint.

why in the fuck did they spend so much resources on one person's claim of a hate crime?

Not sure.  I know that “high profile” cases involving public figures like actors, musicians, etc get a lot more attention than your regularly Joe due to them being in the media’s spotlight.  Also seems like there was quite a bit of corruption initially with people being paid off and what not.
I don’t have a firm grasp on the ins and outs of the well known corruption within Shitcago’s justice system…

Just a drop in the bucket for a city that paid out over $113M on police misconduct lawsuits the year before.

For the record, I'm glad Smollett was convicted, f that guy.

I’m glad they went hard at him.  Reporting fake hate crimes need to be taken seriously, just as actual hate crimes need to be taken seriously …

I don’t want everyone to get all up in arms, but remember when Harris called this “a modern day lynching” ? Sometimes it’s good to wait for the facts to come out before you speak. That goes for anyone.

yeah, I think at the time, despite what Don Jr wants everyone to believe, was that it didn't cross anyone's mind that this could have been a set up. Sure, it unraveled pretty quickly, but when the news broke of it first happening, it sounded legitimately horrifying and something out of a third world country.

But I'm sure you're right; she'll probably hold her tongue next time.

There’s a knee jerk reaction to get your thought out immediately, which sometimes backfires. We’ve seen it happen a few times lately. She wasn’t the only one. There’s plenty of absolutely ridiculous tweets from politicians when this first went down.

I don't lose any sleep about what turned out to be misplaced outrage because there were no suspects. Nobody's life was ruined. I don't think it was that unreasonable to take him at his word. Congrats to him, though; nothing like this will ever be believed again if it's not recorded. He has made sure that his name will come up almost every time a hate crime is alleged.

The other thing was that it was just plain stupid. High-risk / low-reward. Let's say he's forever believed...what's he really get out of it? Some sympathy? The risk is obvious, as he's suffering from it right now.

Or maybe the reward was that he thought he'd call some attention to hate crimes. Again, a little, but the ability for the "assault" on him to really move towards any action is nothing compared to the ability for this to set the discussion back decades. Outrageously stupid.
