Without spare parts, technical knowledge to maintain or use, not of much use. And there have been efforts to disable/destroy in place.

I don't know but I'd doubt it. If the goal was to make the Afghan military independent, I'd imagine that the US would've given them control of everything. But maybe not....since the US military should've realized at some point how incompetent the Afghan military they trained was.

According to the Times of London, it's 90 Billion Dollars worth of equipment. The Times article is behind a paywall, but Tucker Carlson recapped it in the first 1:14 of this video...

Could still be hundreds of Americans in Afghanistan according to the pentagon....

Department of Defense Press Secretary John Kirby told MSNBC's Morning Joe co-host Willie Geist Tuesday that there could still be hundreds of Americans left in Afghanistan.

"I don't think there's an exact figure, Willie," Kirby said. "We believe we got the vast, vast majority of American citizens out, something to the tune of 6,000 of them. And we think it's probably in the low hundreds that are still there. And there were also several hundred others that didn't want to leave."

Keep in mind a lot of what was given to the "Afghan Army" was surplus and therefore technologically antiquated. Eventually, without manuals, parts, and repair know how,, these things will be rusting hulks.

i remember as a kid seeing old photos of world war 2 fighters being crashed or wrecked, or scrapped and just sitting in people's farms in europe. i remember thinking how cool it must have been to sit in that cockpit as a kid and pretend like i was flying. kinda like snoopy vs the red baron.

I mean the Taliban is flying around people hanging from helicopters we left them.  Seems like a bold move to say good work Biden.  Guess CNN isn't reporting that yet.

    Bbbbbbbbbbuuuuuuuutttttttt kill lists!!!

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/taliban-reportedly-struck-deal-u-181809067.html

The Taliban reportedly struck a deal with U.S. to escort Americans to Kabul's airport. A U.S. defense official said 'it worked beautifully.'

The Biden administration continually tried to assure Americans that the Taliban was cooperating with the U.S. during its withdrawal from Afghanistan over the last few weeks after the group took Kabul. Now, citing two U.S. defense officials, CNN reports that the U.S. military struck a deal with the Taliban that led to the latter escorting Americans to the gates of Hamid Karzai International Airport during that time.

The plan was kept under wraps because Washington was concerned about how the Taliban would react to any publicity and because of security threats posed by the Islamic State in Afghanistan, the officials said. But the escort missions apparently happened "several times a day" throughout the evacuation process, and one official said the arrangement "worked beautifully." U.S. forces were reportedly able to observe the Americans who were accompanied by the Taliban approach the airport.

While the strategy may have proved successful in several cases, there were still many reports of the Taliban blocking American citizens and Afghans who aided the U.S. military from getting into the airport. Per The New York Times, some evacuation hopefuls reported to U.S.-based relief organizations that members of the Taliban confiscated their American passports at checkpoints. Read more at CNN and The New York Times.

Yeah, but did he sniff or use 2 hands to take a drink of water? People would lose their shit if Don...er Joe, did that.

Look, Biden isn't the best, but at least he isn't an unhinged ego maniac spewing made up bullshit about how great he is on a daily basis. If sleepy Joe is as bad as it gets, I'll gladly take it any day over coked out Donny diapers.

If Trump was still president the banter would be from the left and the leaving of Afghanistan would be labeled a disaster.

At this point it is what it is to me and not throwing shade at anyone side or person.

You began your comment w/ the premise "If trump was still president". Do you honestly not think he would have probably handled it worse if he were still in office right now?

Hypotheticals aside, I don't blame trump or Biden for this disaster. This was an American disaster, 20 years in the making.

One of trump's signature campaign platforms in 2016 was a ban on Muslims coming to this country... it's pretty f'ing wild how short our collective memory is.

If Trump was still president the banter would be from the left and the leaving of Afghanistan would be labeled a disaster.

At this point it is what it is to me and not throwing shade at anyone side or person.

lol that's not biased at all now?  Well maybe not.

You began your comment w/ the premise "If trump was still president". Do you honestly not think he would have probably handled it worse if he were still in office right now?

Hypotheticals aside, I don't blame trump or Biden for this disaster. This was an American disaster, 20 years in the making.
Same joint chiefs of staff no?

It would be a mess no matter what IMO.  People have been trying to tame that region for years and it's changed very little.  well there was a brewery in Baghdad...

Yeah, but did he sniff or use 2 hands to take a drink of water? People would lose their shit if Don...er Joe, did that.

Look, Biden isn't the best, but at least he isn't an unhinged ego maniac spewing made up bullshit about how great he is on a daily basis. If sleepy Joe is as bad as it gets, I'll gladly take it any day over coked out Donny diapers.
no shit....here is what Biden didn't do....he DIDN'T blame the Generals, he DIDN'T throw anyone on his staff under the bus, he DIDN'T blame the intelligence community, etc.

    That is refreshing.

Milley: US coordination with Taliban on strikes 'possible'
By ROBERT BURNS and LOLITA C. BALDOR

WASHINGTON (AP) — Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Wednesday that it's “possible” the United States will seek to coordinate with the Taliban on counterterrorism strikes in Afghanistan against Islamic State militants or others.

Milley did not elaborate, and his comment did not appear to suggest immediate plans to work with the Taliban.

U.S. military commanders coordinated daily with Taliban commanders outside the Kabul airport over the past three weeks to facilitate the evacuation of more than 124,000 people. But that was a matter of convenience for both parties and not necessarily a sign that they will pursue, or even want, a regular relationship in the future.

The U.S. military ousted the Taliban from power in the fall of 2001 and fought against them for the 19 years that followed.

The extent and nature of a U.S.-Taliban relationship, now that the war is over, is one of the key issues to be worked out. The U.S. diplomatic presence in Kabul has been moved to Doha, Qatar. President Joe Biden has noted several times recently that the Taliban are avowed enemies of the Islamic State group in Afghanistan, suggesting a shared interest with the United States.

President Joe Biden is defending his handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, including the frantic final evacuation from Kabul airport. (Aug. 31)

At a Pentagon news conference with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Milley called the Taliban “ruthless” adding, “Whether or not they change remains to be seen.” He suggested that the recent cooperative arrangement with the Taliban at Kabul airport was not necessarily a model for the future.

“In war you do what you must in order to reduce risk to mission and force, not what you necessarily want to do,” Milley said.

Biden has promised further targeting of the IS group in Afghanistan in response to the IS suicide bombing last week at a Kabul airport gate that killed scores of Afghans and 13 American service members. On Saturday the U.S. military carried out a drone strike in Afghanistan that it said killed two IS planners. On Tuesday, Biden said, “To ISIS-K: We are not done with you yet,” referring to the IS group.

Targeting Islamic State militants or other extremist groups, such as al-Qaida, will be more difficult with no U.S. military forces on the ground and no friendly government forces with which to share intelligence on extremist networks. But the Biden administration asserts that it can contain these groups by monitoring and potentially striking with assets based elsewhere in the region.

Although the Taliban oppose IS, it's far from clear that they will be inclined to work with the U.S. military or the Central Intelligence Agency now that they have regained power in Kabul. Milley has recent experience with Taliban leaders; twice last year, most recently in December, he met face-to-face with them in an attempt to slow their attacks on the U.S.-backed Afghan government, which collapsed in mid-August, triggering the frantic U.S.-led evacuation.

Austin sounded at least as skeptical as Milley regarding the possibility that the coordination in recent days at the Kabul airport suggests a future relationship with the Taliban.

“I would not make any leaps of logic to broader issues,” said Austin.

    continues....

  • So I heard on the news today that Afghanistan is going to be having a food shortage and that if money/food/aid isn't given to them immediately then millions could suffer.

Part of me says let the Taliban figure this out since they want control.

The other part of me says give them the humanitarian aid they need but I would guess that most of Afghanistan would have no clue where the aid came from.

What the hell do you do in this situation?
