    Short answer... yes.
It's probably one of those things rooted in some truth but not even close to absolute. See also, big trucks as compensation.

Stop changing the narrative.  She has nothing to do with gun violence in NYC. Just like Trump had nothing to do with the hate violence against Asians here in NYC. You’re response was directed at me when I brought up NYC. Instead of just talking about guns you had to throw a WHITE FAR RIGHT LUNATIC into the convo. For no reason. As always.

But I thought they were going to pay for the Wall? Maybe we should just give everyone crossing the Southern border a firearm before sending them back? That'll solve our immigration crisis. Mexico to sue U.S.-based gunmakers over flow of arms across border

MEXICO CITY — The Mexican government said Wednesday it plans to file legal action against several major U.S.-based gun manufacturers, alleging that lax controls contribute to the illegal flow of weapons over the border, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

The unusual suit is expected to be filed in U.S. federal court in Boston, since some of the manufacturers are headquartered in Massachusetts, according to the documents. The suit — which seeks unspecified financial compensation from the companies — does not target the U.S. government.

Mexican authorities believe U.S.-made weapons have fueled the explosive violence that has transformed parts of the country over the past decade. Around 2.5 million illicit American guns have poured across the border in that time period, according to a Mexican government study released last year. Legal gun sales in Mexico are tightly restricted.

The lawsuit maintains that the U.S. arms manufacturers “are conscious of the fact that their products are trafficked and used in illicit activities against the civilian population and authorities of Mexico,” according to a document from the Foreign Ministry.

“Nonetheless, they continue to prioritize their economic benefit, and use marketing strategies to promote weapons that are ever more lethal, without mechanisms of security or traceability,” the statement continued.

The suit names companies including Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.; Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc; Beretta U.S.A. Corp; Glock, Inc; and Colt’s Manufacturing Co. Llc.

The lawsuit also seeks the adoption of tighter controls in sales and security features on weapons. It also wants the companies to undertake studies and media campaigns to prevent arms trafficking.

Everyone , everywhere loves guns. Another broad daylight execution. So sad.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
You know what I meant. People from everywhere, all genders, all ages, all colors. Is that better? Not literally every single human.
People love the narrative that white, male rednecks are the only ones who belong to the gun culture in the US. It makes it easier to marginalize a large group of people and sling insults, I guess.

No, I didn't. Are you saying that attraction to fire arms and the willingness to use them and be "responsible" are universal? If yes, why duh. Don't know why that would even need to be stated.

NY is probably experiencing an uptick due to the surge in gun sales everywhere but particularly from states that have greatly loosened the restrictions on purchasing. Guess you might appreciate the Biden Administration directing the ATF to focus on straw purchases and the dealers who sell to those "responsible" and what happens after?
I have a very different opinion on why criminals are running the city at the moment.
    "Criminals running the city."
    Yes. And?
    Its a laughable characterization.
    Laughable from where you’re sitting.
Stop reading the Post. Deal in real stats and not fear mongering. Things in NYC have been way, way, way worse than today and the city wasn't characterized as "being run by criminals." And keep believing that the surge in gun buying and easier availability of firearms hasn't contributed.
Everyone knows that politicians and city officials in NYC are beacons of moral value, have never taken bribes and are the least corrupt of the humans.

Maybe the criminals on both sides of the border, you know, the ones directly responsible for illegally trafficking firearms, should be held accountable.

This lawsuit has nothing to do with stopping guns from crossing the border, it has everything to do with making the "evil corporations" pay.

I'd be willing to bet that cartels are responsible for the majority of guns entering Mexico, and they are also responsible for a lot of illegal gun trafficking in the US too. Not quite as easy to sue a cartel as American corporations though.

If the Mexican government wins this case, I predict absolutely no less illegal gun trafficking at the Mexican border, but some Mexican government officials will be able to buy some nice shit.

Police: Toddler fatally shot woman during work video call
    Today

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — A toddler found an unsecured, loaded handgun inside an apartment and fatally shot a woman while she was on a work-related video call, police in central Florida said.

According to news outlets, the woman was the mother of the toddler who shot her in the head Wednesday.

Someone on the video call dialed 911 after seeing the toddler in the background and hearing a noise, Altamonte Springs police said in a news release Thursday. The woman, identified as 21-year-old Shamaya Lynn, fell backward and never returned to the video call, the person reported.

“Officers and paramedics did their best in rendering aid to Mrs. Lynn, but she was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head,” police stated.

An adult in the apartment left the firearm unsecured, police said. Investigators were working with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed.

Shouldn’t the other “responsible” adult be held accountable? Who cares though, right? “Wasn’t my gun.”

There may not be another adult. Plenty of single parent households.

If someone else in the household left a loaded gun lying around, accessible to kids or anyone else, I think they should absolutely be prosecuted. Not really enough details known in this story for me to demand anything from anyone.

last paragraph starts with an adult left the weapon unsecured.  certainly inferring that there was a second adult associated with the apartment at least.

There may not be another adult. Plenty of single parent households.

If someone else in the household left a loaded gun lying around, accessible to kids or anyone else, I think they should absolutely be prosecuted. Not really enough details known in this story for me to demand anything from anyone.

“To determine whether charges will be filed.” Responsibility at its finest.
Are you certain that the woman who was killed was not the negligent owner of the unsecured firearm?
Shouldn’t the other “responsible” adult be held accountable? Who cares though, right? “Wasn’t my gun.”

    What? This is 2021!

I think I would rather post my thoughts on political issues on some rock band's forum and hope that things change from there.

    Get real.

Saw this today in my FB feed from one of the local yokels from my hometown. Donate to Toys for Kids, win an AR-15. Why not just give the guns to the kids?
