Ohana Orphans - Solo Attendees Meetup! (and anyone else!)

Hi All,

I'm starting this thread for anyone making the trek to Ohana by themselves or anyone who would like to party with other PJ nerds.

I'm going both weekends. First weekend with my boyfriend, then second weekend by myself. I'm staying at the Beachfront Inn on weekend 1 and Rivieria Weekend 2.

A little about me: I live in San Francisco, I've been a PJ Fan for most of my life now, with my first concert in 1993 when I was 11! My partner and I travel a lot for concerts, near and far. Mainly we travel for heavy metal shows. For Ohana, I want to try to get to the rail on one of the Encore days, most likely Saturday. Anyone who has any tips, lemme know! I'm hoping to get a fun group together to go nuts. Plus, having someone to hold down the fort on beer, bathroom or merch runs is a plus.

Thanks for starting this thread, great idea!  I'm flying in from Sonoma, Bay Area represent! I might be going with my sister, she's the worlds biggest Lord Huron fan. She may not be able to make it, so glad to see I'll have folks to kick it with. We'll be staying at the Best Western Plus Dana Point Inn by the Sea.

hello orphans! i'll be driving down from LA solo each night. these shows will be my re-entry into the pearl jam world after an 8 year hiatus. i wasn't really interested in shn or ohana because i wanted my first show back to be a proper arena show, but this encore weekend is just too good to pass up.

i'm interested to see what the pj crowd is like at a festival. i kinda just hang in the back for shows like this, i much prefer having breathing/dancing space and hate having to weave through crowds for beer/bathroom breaks. i'm also coming from the phish world where people are real assholes about space in ga, especially towards the front. so if the pj crowd is more relaxed about that kinda thing it would be cool to find a good spot with other people. i think?

anyway, going to be a blast, cannot fucking wait!

I saw them at Outside Lands in San Francisco in 2009, and the crowd was fun, but nothing like a regular PJ show. They were there for the hits, so the setlist was very casual fan friendly. Still a fun show. I was hyped, so I got people hyped around me. One guy was all, "OK, you're obviously a fanatic. Tell me what they'll play next!" "Tell me what this song is!" haha fun.

    Hi Marieow,

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm traveling to  Encore with a nine year old. She has this idea of being upfront, but not the reality that we'd lose our position going to the bathroom and a wall of tall adults in front of her! I'd definitely join your solo group one of the nights and will touch base later!

“Ohana Orphans”- love the name! I’m flying in solo from NJ for the encore weekend. I’m going to SHN a few weeks before, which is only a 20 minute drive for me, so I figured why not fly 3,000 miles cross county two weeks later to see some more shows. I’m staying in LA with a friend of mine and will be driving down for both days. I couldn’t be more excited to finally be seeing PJ after the craziness of the past 18 months! After all this time I honestly don’t care what they play, I’m just stoked to get to see them and to feel the crazy energy of a crowd of PJ faithful once again. These will be shows 22 and 23 for me (after SHN). I would definitely be down to meet up/hang out with the group, grab some beers, and try to get a good spot close to the stage. Looking forward to meeting you all in less than 10 weeks!

I took her to see PJ in Pemberton but left early - she was too young to stay up so late then! She also went to hey Ocean at a local festival as a baby. We were supposed to catch the Gigatour with Billie eilish in Paris 2020, which is more her style.

Can't wait to dance again! If I'm near you, I'll try hard not to singalong lol.

I dunno... I like being solo, too, but when my kid n caregiver left Pemberton early, I didn't like being there alone n left too. It's my first trip with just me n the kid with no bagboy, haha.

I'd like to bump into a few people who have been my Coronosupport pals from here, like PJNB (and wife) who might be at the same hotel...
Love to meet up and say hi! You guys are at the Best Western Marina Shore as well? I still do not know if I have to fly out after the first fest due to work and fly back in or if we can stay the whole 10 days in California. Hopefully the latter but I will keep in touch for sure as the dates get closer. Whats your travel plans? Your daughter is going to have a blast.

In past years, if you arrived early enough in the morning (before festival gates open), there was parking available in the Doheny State Beach parking lot right where the concert is held.  That was soooo much more convenient than offsite shuttle (the lines to get on the buses after the show were a total nightmare).

this, and there is also street parking across the highway on some sidestreets. i'm sure that goes fast as well though. but like DOCC said in the past you could arrive early am and park right at the festival.

Around what time in the morning do you usually need to get there to get parking? I’m renting a car in LA and driving down so trying to figure out what time I need to hit the road.

also i would think there's gonna be more people going and lining up early than past years so have to factor that in.

Uff lol I was planning on getting there later in the afternoon both days. Thank you though. I have no problem walking a mile or two back to my car.

what time is curfew? Gotta imagine it can't be any later than 10 sharp yeah? So PJ goes on around 7-7:15?

late afternoon i can't see there being parking. maybe the street parking lasts but again i don't know for sure. yes, 10 sharp, hard to say on the time slot. i'm thinking 7 or 7:30-10 encore weekend, 8-10 weekend 1. you could take a shot at calling the doubletree and seeing if they have parking, hotel is sold out but not everyone brings a car.  they will park you as long as its available.  might be worth a call that day.

this, and there is also street parking across the highway on some sidestreets. i'm sure that goes fast as well though. but like DOCC said in the past you could arrive early am and park right at the festival.
Around what time in the morning do you usually need to get there to get parking? I’m renting a car in LA and driving down so trying to figure out what time I need to hit the road.
i can't say honestly, i never did it. my guess would be early, 8 am or so. maybe earlier but i don't know.

Thanks for the tips! Will give that a shot. Also scoping out the Costco/other plazas near the beach. Won't be leaving the car overnight so hoping it won't be an issue.

Coming in from CT and staying at an airbnb about 5 miles away. Bought the shuttle pass but I'm not sure where it will be. It looks like it might be on the opposite side of where I am staying and would take me longer to get to the shuttle than the concert. Maybe this thread can be used to get some carpools going too?

Great idea! I'm staying some place near the beach, but I hope someone carpool with you.

Hey all! Coming solo from Little Rock, Arkansas, for all three nights of weekend 1 (arriving Thursday). Anyone else staying in Laguna Beach who wants to carpool?

Hi people, I’m coming in solo from San Diego for the first weekend, and staying at an air b n b that’s some distance away. I’m hoping that have a second shuttle that is more central for the Irvine/LA folks and not down south like an Clemente.

Anyway, I’m a big pj fan been seeing them since ‘94 and have too much fomo to miss any SoCal shows. First time at Ohana and headed to encore too, w a friend.

Anyway I would too meet up with folks before or during the shows, especially those crunchy phish heads. I’m hoping to see some artist collabs!

enjoy the return to live music everyone. Southern ca shows seem to start up again this weekend.

Another orphan for the Encore weekend.  Flying solo in from Indiana on Thursday.  Staying near the venue.  So excited for PJ shows #18 and #19 for me.
