jocelyn wrote:What a great show! We were sitting in row D in the center....what a treat that was! I've never had seats so close before. My husband has a pretty crap fan club number, so it was cool this was random. Someone gave us quite the break, I guess!
Anyhow, Liam Finn was incredible. I've never seen a live performance that was so off the cuff, strange, beautiful and at times, loud and forceful. Crazy stuff!
I am a pretty emotional concert goer, so several of the songs really moved me. "Man of the Hour" and "Arc" moved me to tears, in fact. I've never experienced anything like "Arc" before...it was chilling. It was so cool to hear tracks from "Into the Wild". Overall, the set was solid and the conversation was great. It felt like we were hanging out with Ed for an evening.
The general jackassery of some of the crowd was embarassing...lots of getting up, yelling from the balcony, SPORTS commentary!!! I mean, seriously, what the hell!? There were some chicks with a sign in the row in front of us, which was a bit irritating, but they were mostly well behaved. Lots of good Ed commentary on the crowd, though...There was one point when Ed was going to bribe a guy a row or two in front of us to put his arms down with some pics. The guy had left (!!) so he gave them to the dude behind him who "had to suffer". Too funny.
We were sitting next to some really nice people, Josh & Shelly (I think!) from PA. Shelly is circusfreak on this board if I remember correctly. Our entire row was very well behaved. I wish everyone else could've taken the cues.
Oh, during Liam Finn's set, someone spilled an entire glass of red wine on a girl in a white shirt. Yikes! They were cool about it and bought her a poster and a tee shirt. I feel like maybe drinks should have been relegated to the lobby. Oh well!
What an amazing experience!!!
Yeah, I'm Josh. It was nice meeting you too!
I felt so sorry for the girl that got wine spilled down her back. White shirt, completely destroyed. Unbelievable.
Great show.Oh help me, help me from myself!!!
Theres not going to be an accoustic version of Blood or anything like that, so feel free to sit down.0 -
FartsMakeMeGiggle wrote:How funny was it when after Ed had the family out on stage said something like "I hope they don't show us up... we're fucked." And then goes "Oops... We're poopied. That's how you have to talk when you're a parent."
Pretty funny line and I'm sure mine wasn't verbatim but it's close enough.
Great fucking show. Ed going on his own for a short tour was a great idea and gave a lot of us fans who weren't old enough to grab a fan club membership back in the beginning of the band a great chance to experience Ed up close.
Thanks again to the 10c for the 2nd row center seats.
I was the guy who fixed your girlfriend's arm rest, if you saw that. I was sitting next to jocelyn, right on the isle, across from the blond who spilled the wine down your girl's back. felt so bad for you two.Oh help me, help me from myself!!!

edit: One rant, though- if you're going to get up and leave the show, come back, leave again, make everyone stand up, etc- DO IT IN BETWEEN SONGS! That's rule #1 when seeing a sit-down show and I'm surprised that alot of these yahoos don't know it. I'd be a big supporter of shutting down booze right after the show starts for this reason alone. End rant.
for real! I couldn't get 10C tickets this time and was in the Ticketmaster section. I don't want to complain but SHEESH--the people around me should have just gone to a bar. The couple next to me got up no less than 5 times, right in the middle of songs. The people in my row were more interested in drinking and yelling listening. I had to concentrate extra hard on the show and it definitely detracted from the magic for me...
But I'm still grateful to Eddie for being such a good sport and offering such a great night!01/15/95 - 09/29/96 - 08/25/98 - 06/03/00 - 09/05/00

catwoman wrote:I actually did think of it! I put my daughter's college application essay (the essay where they ask you to write about anything) in an envelope with a note on it saying what it was & saying that it explains everything. She wrote about how for years I would play PJ in the car for them on the way to my son's ice hockey practices about an hour from our house, and how we bonded over PJ's music. When I got them PJ tickets in 2003 (long after our car rides to the hockey rink ended), they refused to go unless I came with them. I thought I was too old to go to a concert, but they insisted. We went, and I had a blast, and I've been hooked on the concerts ever since. I got the envelope to Eddie's driver, who promised to give it to his manager. I hope he does read it. She wrote it five years ago (it did get her into college), and it's really sweet.
That's super sweet. And sort of why I was at the DC show with my mom. She took me to my first Pearl Jam concert in DC on 1/15/05 and took care of everything. I was only 14 and couldn't drive, didn't have a credit card or a job... She just put me in the car and drove me from Pittsburgh and let me have the experience of my lifetime! So now that I make decent money and have a car, every time Pearl Jam plays DC I put HER in the car, treat her to a nice hotel and nice meal and an awesome concert! We always have the best time!

Yup. We remember that. We actually mentioned it during the long drive Sunday morning.
But really, the simpletons yelling did more to ruin the show than the wine-spilling. Sure it was kind of a bummer we couldnt see Liam's whole set, but I would have taken another glass of wine to the back if it made those people shut up.
Even with those factors, it was the best show I have ever been to.0 -

We headed down to Cap City Brewery which called its last call right after we got there...then headed down to Rocket Dog which was open and smelled like the basement of a frat house....but it was really packed.
Somehow managed to make it back to the hotel where I ended up on the wrong floor and was approached by a guy with a heavy accent and a gun telling me I was on the wrong floor.
I sure was.
Oh, great story. I remember you now, I was the one sitting to your right. Glad you found Rocket, because we had our doubts that you would. The Seven Worlds Collide argument was over whether Ed sang on "I See Red." I think Tony lost, but it could have been a draw.0 -

Right, but then the argument became how much he sang, so hence the drawl. Thanks for the link. There was a link to Rise from Night 1 on YouTube, but it got yanked before I could grab it. Makes me think even more strongly that there will be a DVD.
This one is still good for the time being, world's best drummer and singer on one stage (sorry Matt Cameron is fantastic, but Brendan Canty rules Washington East):

I had a ticketmaster seat too (row M) and although I could hear the idiots throughout the venue, everyone around me was very respectful.
I really lucked out with my seat - having just purchased the ticket the day before - to end up about 12 -15 rows back was SWEET.Don't come closer or I'll have to go0 -

I would personally like to thank the douchebags in the upper balcony who repeatedly yelled "PLAY SMILE!!!!" about 55 times throughout the show, as well as the chorus of 3 or 4 who yelled "FOOTSTEPS".
Play Smile, you've got to be kidding me.
The folks who yelled Footsteps were quieted down by those supporters who kindly asked them to shut the fuck up. What i don't get is that, you say go see a play on Broadway, or some sort of play. You don't stand up and scream "DO A LINE FROM ACT 3, SCENE 2!!!! Granted it is a rock show, but a performance that's meant to be quite a different experience. I guess there will always be "that guy".If you want to get wild, get wild!0 -

I honestly didn't have any problems with the crowd. I was in the 13th row and it was incredible. I didn't really notice alot of the shouting or maybe because it wasn't in my area. I was 2 rows behind the guy with the Bush mask. We all gave him kudos.
Night 2 was a different story. I think I had vertigo...was up in the balcony and there was some woman about 5 seats over that screamed her brains out the entire night. But that didn't bother me the way the slope of the balcony did. It is scary up there. :eek:Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away0 -
