Kat, just so you know, it wasn't a new song before Society. It was the kid's song that he played a recording of at the Beacon show as well. Except this time he brought out the kids and the parents to take a bow. The four kids were all very cute and Ed took a liking to the youngest one - a little girl named Maddie. And Uncle Ed gave her a big hug after she took a bow.

I'll write more later as I'm half asleep and need some coffee ... lol.

But my favorite line of the night was after Ed acknowledged that the show was being filmed for posterity that his sock came loose after stomping to keep the beat during Sometimes, that he promised there wouldn't be anymore wardrobe malfunctions. He then proceeded to tell the story about how the last time he wore the pants he was wearing that his zipper came down. He then stops and checks to make sure its up and says I just wanted to make sure none of my bonus features were showing.

Wow! great show. Eddie was on!
    Setlist amazing.
Wish I could go to sunday.
We met the kids at the show-they were thrilled and stayed at our hotel.
    Awesome night.
Lines were a bit long inside.
But again Eddie gave us a performance that was beyond great, he talked about the upcomming election, the war, and what it should be about- our heart-felt thanks to him for an awsome time.
Screaming a-holes a little anoying as usual. But Eddie handeled it well.
    He was so funny!
About 2 and a half hours long!
    Wow!

see my review in other thread...

dear fans, it is cold as hell in the warner theater. I froze in flip flops. I had to put one of my feet (minus the flip flop) under my husband's legs!

last night was August 16 -- the anniversary of Elvis' death in 1977, our 11th wedding anniversary, and our first time seeing ed solo live!

must've been the same pants he was wearing night 2 in toronto! he had to turn away and do up his fly... he called it a wardrobe malfunction then too! it was so cute... sigh.

And I laughed when he was asking us to close our eyes during Blackbird- saying that 'nothing special will be going on up here' (checks his zipper) 'yep we're good.' Too funny!

Loved the concert. Ed was very chatty. Messed up quite a bit in the beginning but then found his groove. I thought the mic sounded low, though! I couldn't catch anything he was saying unless he was right on it. I saw the 2 San Diego shows and I'll have to check the setlists, but it seemed like he didn't play as many ITW songs here? Parting Ways was a treat for me. I also loved the '7th Inning Stretch' of Elderly Woman.

Looking forward to tonight! Round 2!

edit: One rant, though- if you're going to get up and leave the show, come back, leave again, make everyone stand up, etc- DO IT IN BETWEEN SONGS! That's rule #1 when seeing a sit-down show and I'm surprised that alot of these yahoos don't know it. I'd be a big supporter of shutting down booze right after the show starts for this reason alone. End rant. :)
We're all different behind the eyes.

You are U, who you are.
  • Wow what a show. I can't wait for tonights show. I just hope the crowds shuts the hell up about songs they want to hear. It was annoying and it was pissing Eddie off after the fourth time he told people to shut up about it. Come on people lay off the requests. Before the show he writes a setlist, and has a planned agenda of what he is going to talk about. He was obviously flustered and took him longer to say what he wanted due to all the stupid requests by people just wanting to hear their own voice. Give the guy a break, like he said last night "I can only play so many songs, lucky for me I have four other people in my band to know all of our songs." Along with Arc on the set list give credit to Eliza-Jane Barnes for Hard Sun too.

  • I should have worn a jacket. My first trip to the Warner. Great venue. When I picked up my tickets (pause) Thanks 10C (play) I looked at my tickets.."ok, great - center section...cool, Row L...hmm..1, 2, 3, 4, 5...who cares right...can't wait. Excellent seats...I felt I was in the center of the universe.

Added to the warning at the door should have been "Will not tolerate song requests my drunken/impolite jerk offs. All offenders will be shot." Putting that aside, excellent show. Ed' sounded great and at times I felt like I was in a space not too many people get to be. He made it personable. Thanks Ed.

ed's socks fell down doin' some foot stompin' during Sometimes?? :D If he had been wearing their own particular brand name socks,

he should have known better but he's stubborn,

What a great show! We were sitting in row D in the center....what a treat that was! I've never had seats so close before. My husband has a pretty crap fan club number, so it was cool this was random. Someone gave us quite the break, I guess!

Anyhow, Liam Finn was incredible. I've never seen a live performance that was so off the cuff, strange, beautiful and at times, loud and forceful. Crazy stuff!

I am a pretty emotional concert goer, so several of the songs really moved me. "Man of the Hour" and "Arc" moved me to tears, in fact. I've never experienced anything like "Arc" before...it was chilling. It was so cool to hear tracks from "Into the Wild". Overall, the set was solid and the conversation was great. It felt like we were hanging out with Ed for an evening.

The general jackassery of some of the crowd was embarassing...lots of getting up, yelling from the balcony, SPORTS commentary!!! I mean, seriously, what the hell!? There were some chicks with a sign in the row in front of us, which was a bit irritating, but they were mostly well behaved. Lots of good Ed commentary on the crowd, though...There was one point when Ed was going to bribe a guy a row or two in front of us to put his arms down with some pics. The guy had left (!!) so he gave them to the dude behind him who "had to suffer". Too funny.

We were sitting next to some really nice people, Josh & Shelly (I think!) from PA. Shelly is circusfreak on this board if I remember correctly. Our entire row was very well behaved. I wish everyone else could've taken the cues.

Oh, during Liam Finn's set, someone spilled an entire glass of red wine on a girl in a white shirt. Yikes! They were cool about it and bought her a poster and a tee shirt. I feel like maybe drinks should have been relegated to the lobby. Oh well!

    What an amazing experience!!!

oh my God, I missed Hard Sun :(

What an incredible show! I love his stories. He brought that family on stage. Ed seems so sweet! I just want to pinch his cute cheeks (facial not butt).

So glad it was recorded. Thank you Ed, for an amazing performance on our 11th wedding anniversary.

You rock and I hope you keep on forever and I felt so sorry for you b/c of whatever what "bugging" your faces/eyebrows. You need some anti inch cream for that mosquito bite.

to the fans if you are going tonight, take a sweatshirt and don't wear flip flops. I froze last night at the warner theater!

We live really far from there and I've got a private party to leave for at 11:00 a.m. today (with another favorite musician playing), so we left after he shook people's hands. Unfortunately, I was really tired. Missed Hard Sun :(

This was my first and presumably only EV show, so I don't have anything to compare it to. That said, it was amazing. I was up in the top balcony a couple rows from the very back, near the center. I wonder if everyone who said they were cold was downstairs because it definitely wasn't cold near the top.

This was one of the best shows I have been to. The acoustics made it sound like he was playing in my living room. Highlights for me were Sometimes, the "7th inning stretch" version of Elderly Woman when he asked everyone to stand and sing, Society, seeing how happy he was to play the song by the little kids and bring the family on stage, Parting Ways, and Arc.

EV mentioned going to the 9:30 Club earlier in the day to hear a group of kids bands play. This was really exciting for me because it is directly across the street from my apartment - too bad that I had no clue he was hanging out in my neighborhood!

Many people have mentioned taping. I can't wait to see it. In addition to the standard cameras in the audience there was guy onstage, sitting down about 15 feet from EV and walking around and following him in the song or two - particularly Hard Sun - when he wandered off his rug in the center of the stage. I was too far away to tell if it was an HD camera, but he had to have gotten some great shots.

One final note. A lot of people in the audience were just embarrassing. I don't really mind yelling and shouting a couple requests at an arena PJ show. There you are jumping up and down, singing along, your ears are ringing, and not too many can hear you anyway. But it is much, much different at a show like this. When the man everyone is there to see asks you, repeatedly, not to yell things, don't be the asshole that yells ridiculous crap after every song. And really don't be the asshole who hears another asshole yell and then think you should do the same thing, only louder. You don't have to sit perfectly quiet. EV seemed very open to people cheering or booing things he said, as is evident from the political comments, those about "your football Injuns" (he had to have known he would be booed for that one) and even the time where he said something to the effect of "you guys are quiet so I guess you didn't like that line". Making noise, particularly in the form of applause, is perfectly appropriate. Just don't be an asshole and yell things when you could otherwise hear a pin drop.

There was the standard camera last night, 2 people on stage with cameras, and a woman with a camera on the balcony on Stone's side. So it looked like the real deal in terms of taping. I just wish that the crowd was a little better behaved.

One of the highlights for me was Ed's little speech before Blackbird.

He was talking about how if Obama wins its everything for this country showing that any man regardless of color can be president. But that also if he wins, it means nothing because that means being black doesn't matter and that the color if your skin means nothing. And so that by electing Obama it's nothing and everything at the same time. The whole time all I could think about was the lyrics from Gone:

    "If nothing is everything
If nothing is everything I'll have it all
If nothing is everything then I will have it all"

Highlights for me would have to be hearing Blackbird live (one of my fav Beatles songs and he nailed it), Parting Ways was beautiful, hearing Unknown Thought again and just the whole vibe of the venue. Like my good friend nfanel said (Happy Bday again! :) ) - Newark was a beautiful venue but you can't beat the old venues in terms of character. And the whole response to the fans booing Ed mentioning the New England Patriots. He said well you guys have a lot of right to boo another team - you guys have an "Injun" on the helmet and the name has just got to go. ;)

It was a really fun night and I hope someday this gets released, but honestly just being able to see Ed be himself in a small venue is something I'll never get tired of.

This show was awesome. One of my favorite concerts. Note to whoever is going to the show tonight or th rest of the tours. Don't yell out song names you want to hear while ed is telling a story that is fucking rude. Let the man speak. Also like another poster said stop getting up every 20 minutes to pee and get more to drink.

Heading out to brunch, but one last story, so right after the show starts a fan runs up and throws a W mask on stage. Ed picks it up and puts it on the microphone next to him. He's a bout to play but says he can't with W watching over his shoulder so he turns the mask around. Later during the Into the Wild part of the show, his guitar tech turns the mask around. Ed messes up a song and in the middle of it knocks the mike down with the mask on it. After the song he picks the mike up, puts the mask on his hand and apologizes to it and offers it some tea. The mask says no, Ed puts the mask next to head and then he says W is looking for the wine and beer, but that's backstage and then Ed heaves the mask to the left to the backstage area. It was just a comical little sequence of events that played out over a few songs.

  • How funny was it when after Ed had the family out on stage said something like "I hope they don't show us up... we're fucked." And then goes "Oops... We're poopied. That's how you have to talk when you're a parent."

Pretty funny line and I'm sure mine wasn't verbatim but it's close enough.

Great fucking show. Ed going on his own for a short tour was a great idea and gave a lot of us fans who weren't old enough to grab a fan club membership back in the beginning of the band a great chance to experience Ed up close.

Thanks again to the 10c for the 2nd row center seats.
Okay... seatbelts. Just put the little thing into the big thing and... I tell ya what. If you don't know how to fasten your seatbelt, just raise your hand and I'll have Tommy Boy here come back there and hit you in the head with a tack hammer because you're a RETARD.

That was my girlfriend and I who were spilled on. She got it much worse than I. It was a crappy situation. I could tell the spillers were horrified. They just got to their seats, werent drunk (as far as I could tell) and it was just a mistake. It looked like my GF was a murder victim though. We really didnt know what to do, but the guy met us up in the lobby and he gave us some loot to replace the ruined poster and a shirt for my GF (plus a little more, but my shirt was still wearible for the night). I felt kind of bad accepting it, but I didnt have enough cash left for the cash-only souvineer stand. I actually feel kind of worse for the spillers than us.

As far as we are concerned, the chodes yelling shit all night put a darker mark on our night than the wine-spillers. The yellers are not funny, amusing, or impressive. Eddie gets annoyed, and it affects the show negatively for everyone. Not to mention it makes you look like a douchebag. Its unbelievable that some human adults are so dumb and havent yet evolved enough to figure out not to yell stupid shit in a situation where 1,799 people are going to be pissed off at you, plus the man you paid a lot of money to see is clearly requesting you stop.

Other than missing the 2nd half of the Liam set, which we were enjoying, the night couldnt have been any better. We were in the 5th row, left side on the aisle. By far the closest I have been to Pearl Jam. Ear to ear smile the entire show. I was hanging on every note and word. I cant even list a favorite part of line, the whole thing was fucking unbelievable. Im not sure if I can go to another show ever again.
My expectations were pretty high for this, and it exceeded my expectations ten-fold. I think I Am Mine sounded the most impressive, and I really didnt expect to feel that way. All the ITW songs were awesome, Parting Ways.... cheers to the dude who talked Eddie into playing it before the show. Lukin was insane to see solo.
I loved the ARC ending to the encore 1 and it continues while Eddie says 'goodbye' and keeps going for awhile. Then they come out with the new background and the fog, lights, labcoats for Hard Sun, Eddie stands and rocks out as if it were a sold out arena/ampitheater.
As I said, I cant pick one part that 'i liked'. The entire deal from start to finish was just surreal.
Oh and nobody mentioned the lone mosquito he told us about that kept biting him when he was putting together the setlist, and the subsequent itching we had to witness all night on his forehead and arm.

Thanks to Eddie for doing this tour at these venues and putting his all into every show. Its amazing how long he plays at such a high intensity. Thanks for the great seats 10 club. I couldnt ask for a better night.

The filming was a nice surprise.... as someone said before, it would have been nice if the few jerks out there kept to themselves... They they had a few cameras... the ones I saw were HD cameras (i actually own the same model they used).

Hopefully they'll be out again tonight!

  • This show was awesome. One of my favorite concerts. Note to whoever is going to the show tonight or th rest of the tours. Don't yell out song names you want to hear while ed is telling a story that is fucking rude. Let the man speak. Also like another poster said stop getting up every 20 minutes to pee and get more to drink.

Yeah....that was great though...he just kept calm and said "Alright guys, it's way to early in the night to piss me off". Classic

I'm so glad they hooked you up. There was a point when you, your GF, and the dude who spilled were all gone. The blonde was just sitting there trying to hide, sipping her drinks and looking guilty and sheepish. I was in the center section so I had a view of the situation. But seriously, I felt like I was in a detergent commercial! When does that shit happen!?!

Agreed about the shouters. Ugh. But, the show was too incredible for that to spoil it...I keep thinking about it! Very special stuff indeed.

The idiots screaming in the crowd really hurt the show. I saw Santa Cruz in April and that crowd was wonderful compared to last night. It was embarrassing and uncomfortable to hear "footsteps" "go Cubs" over and over. The guy beside had about ten beers and didn't say a word. You can't blame everything on alcohol. It was simply a bunch of fools that don't know how to behave.
