After seeing NJPAC show, my girlfriend and I had to see Eddie again and of course he was amazing. The shouters were annoying again, but I have to say Eddie was more funny than usual. I'm glad it didn't get to him too much. When some of the shouters were really bad in the beginning, he said "...Yes, they are Pearl Jam songs." Getting some laughter from the crowd.
Later, When he was trying to "bribe" the guy with the picks he realized that he could use the reflection in his guitar as a spot light in the crowd. His reaction was so funny, almost kid-like and playful, like he just had this amazing discovery. "oh, I can do this..." and was shining it all around.
The Beatles' Blackbird was definitely a highlight! My girlfriend couldn't believe he was gonna play it and started ballin' when Eddie started. She used to sing that to her little boys when they were newborns. Thank you Eddie!

One more thing, security was fairly annoying also. We were seated in the center back and they kept tracked down people in the rows ahead of us to tell them stop taking pics or even if they just had a camera on. ie making people get up so they could walk in to "talk to them". Wonder if that was because the show was being "officially" taped? venue? (unlike the NJPAC show where people everywhere taping and photographing and the ushers were super friendly.)
Liam and EJ were amazing again. Hope people support them. Their discs are really great! Society w/Liam gave me chills.

I’m so glad I decided to go to this show. Got a ticket Friday afternoon. I’m not sure whether I enjoyed the music or the comedy more. He was HILARIOUS. The whole night. It was awesome.
Highlights for me were Soon Forget, Parting Ways and Driftin’. All three of up there as my favs.
Glad to see it was filmed too, looks like I may be able to enjoy it all over again.
I am replying late I know...just got back to town. The show was awesome! Thanks 10C for the great seats....7th row center....perfect...well, except for the jerks behind me...row F..seats 103-104...they were the guys that got up and down all night to pee...were screaming out requests, they sang just about every song so loud that I had to plug my one ear so I could focus on Eddie...and one of the guys was the guy who someone mentions actually calls someone in the middle of Masters of War to tell them that he is playing Masters of War!!! OMG...do people just not get it? And aren't you paying money, traveling, etc...to hear Eddie sing? Kills me that people choose talking, drinking, using cell phones, cameras instead of watching the show that they paid to see!! I am not one to make waves - everyone has there thing and a way to enjoy the shows...but have some respect for others around you and for Eddie...
Sorry about that...I had to get it out...but the show was great...Ed got in his groove and was so funny. The new song was really cool (forget the name!)...the kids song was cute and Ed seems so genuine and happy. Had a great time.
I'm the one that had to sit behind that guy for part of the show. The guy Ed was gonna bribe along with the girl that was with him kept leaving their seats and coming back many times throughout the show. I'm guessing one of them drank too much. Lucky for me he wasn't there (and never came back to his seat after that), so I got 5 guitar picks (1 obviously used) from Ed. I gave one to a girl sitting next to my wife (sorry I didn't get your name, if you read this send me a PM) and another to a Pearl Jam fan that recently got engaged to my cousin.
Ed definitely noticed my shirt there (saw him point to me and then to his shirt). I was wearing a shirt that had "Void Where Prohibited by Law" stamped over the Bill of Rights. I wonder if that helped influence Ed to give the picks to me.
A big THANK YOU to Ten Club for the great seats (3rd row). Makes me wish they would do totally random seating for PJ shows so more people can experience being that close. I would never get seats that good for Pearl Jam with my membership without winning the lottery for the first two rows as they did last tour.
Congratulations! It's so cool that Eddie is tuned into what is happening in the audience, isn't it? I loved it when he gave you the pics for having to put up with the guy in front of you. I'm also glad you were able to watch the encores without him being there. Why would anyone that close to the stage leave the show before the encores?
What an amazing show. This was my only solo show of the tour and it left we wishing i could have gone to every show. Completely different experience from a PJ concert, but i say that in a good way. Ed was in a great mood, very talkative as others have said, and he dealt with the shouters in the audience very well. Side note on that, it's been said a lot, but what has to be done for these people to get the message. It shouldn't take Ed saying 5-10 times how he isn't going to play any Pearl Jam songs. I heard people shout for Footsteps, Angel, Gremmie out of control, and Harvest Moon throughout the night. If you piss him off, do you really think he's going to play your request anyway?
Back to the show...i was floored by how talented he is with the guitar. He kind of gets overshadowed i think by Mike and Stone in the band, but Ed is amazing. Perfect mix of songs and stories to go along with them. The jam he did after Millworker was incredible, i'm suprised it hasn't been mentioned here more. Porch was another highlight with the audience taking the chorus over. I can't really pick one highlight because there wasn't a weak moment in the show, but the Arc-Hard Sun finish would be hard to top. Arc was simply amazing, the girl next to me was in tears and i'm sure she wasn't the only one. Thanks to Ed for a great time and here's hoping to another tour soon.
I have never posted here but I have been reading posts for a long time. I made it a point to come here today to post about my experience at this show because I am still trying to make some sense of it.
I made a big event of the show, getting a hotel and driving from PA to see it. I made my sister come with me thinking she would enjoy the experience. Too bad that didn't happen.
The girl sitting next to my sister and the two guys she was with were the rudest most horrible people at the show. The girl spilled beer on her and barely even apologized. She also screamed at the top of her lungs and jumped up and down and sang so loud that no one near us could even hear what Eddie was saying. At one point, the girl elbowed my sister (during Lukin) so my sister had to duck for cover. The guy with her kept yelling "I am an idiot" as loud as he could and bitching that the bar was closed.
I finally just gave up and asked the usher if we could stand in the back. We spent the rest of the show standing by the door. (Which was fine but I had surgery on my foot on Friday so it was sort of uncomfortable)
As for the people who find it necessary to get up and leave every 3 seconds, please remember you disrupt the show for everyone sitting on the right and left sides that are seated behind you. Thanks for that.
I did love the show. It was great. I wish I were closer and that people were more respectful. Sigh. Venting here helps. Must focus on how great Eddie was in spite of all the crap....

that totally blows. The idiots started from note one, I just don't understand it. Now they will forever be immortalized on the DVD as the assholes at the show.
Yeah that's what I want to be - that guy.
Really sorry about your experience, but remember, it was a great show and he was a riot. Try and remember the good part of it.
I want to know about this as well. Does someone from the night have a better memory than me? We were at the bar across from the venue after the show. One guy there had the set list, and the song itself wasn't listed. There was some debate with them about whether it was Brokenhearted, but the lyrics don't match up from Google. Ed said something about it having come from some thoughts at 5 AM a few mornings previously.
Oh, and for me a couple of things local from DC about the banter stand out. Like when Ed put on the white lab coat and the guy from the audience yelled "Ted Leo and the Pharmacists." That was about the only yelling person who I appreciated, and probably the only one from DC proper. We were all the ones going "shhhhh." Also, no one mentioned the story about Ed going to 9:30 Club to see Girls Rock earlier in the day.

Not from me, I stood my ground and said it wasn't Brokenhearted. That was just a misinformed Tony
Brokenhearted was the song played on the Telecaster (only song played on a Tele)
Unthought Known was a song written pretty much the night before the Newark show. Just a work in progress song at the moment.
Having given my two tickets to last night's show to my wife and son (as I was traveling out of town last night), I was awakened by a call from the Wife at 2:45 in the morning screaming in ecstasy. (No, not that type of ecstasy). She and my son had hung out and got to meet Eddie last night after the show (along with about 40 other people). When he came out, he was incredibly gracious, answered questions for about 20 mintes, and shook hands with everyone who stayed around. Even, personally gave my 13 year old son a guitar pick. (So, my son now has a guitar pick from Jack White and Eddie Vedder, not a bad combo.)
Called my wife this morning and she was still screaming with pleasure. (No, not that kind of pleasure). Said she hung out with some of the nicest people ever while standing around to meet Eddie and that last night was one of the greatest events she ever been to.
For those whose wives have had a similar experience, any idea on how long it takes for the euphoria to wear down. I'm a little scared to go home right now and see her in person. On the other hand, I did give her those tickets so, maybe she owes me something. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
About the euphoria...never ! My husband just walked past me and asked, "So, what's new in Eddie Vedder world?" ...without even seeing that my computer screen was stationed in the message pit. It's just a given around here. Good luck !

LOL, was this the same convo that contained the Seven Worlds Collide argument? Anyway, what a great night! I think I was more high on the music and the great company than the Jameson's.
There were more than a few obnoxious fans in the crowd at the show, but what I remember are all of the many more nice folks I met before and after. Wonder if anyone ever found an open club after the bar across the street shut down?

I must've arrived right after the 7 World's Collide argument...although I'm sure I could answer the questions. I was the one with the setlist.
We headed down to Cap City Brewery which called its last call right after we got there...then headed down to Rocket Dog which was open and smelled like the basement of a frat house....but it was really packed.
Somehow managed to make it back to the hotel where I ended up on the wrong floor and was approached by a guy with a heavy accent and a gun telling me I was on the wrong floor.

Thanks to the gentlemen who 'works for Ed' who pulled my wife and I aside before the Liam show and upgraded us to the front row. Absolutely amazing. It's refreshing that they / he does that type of things for the fans.
Still taken back by the whole experience.
I wont get into the complaint fest about the loud a. holes, but share the same sentiment with the rest of you. Luckily I was in my own little world and they didnt annoy me as much as they typcially would.
That's all I got. What an amazing show. I've seen a lot of music in my life, this might be hands down one of the coolest experiences ever.

The "Unthought Known" song was beautiful, but the one that really stood out for me was "Brokenhearted." I've always liked it a lot, but it sounded great on that telecaster thingamajig.
"They said ... timing was everything
made him ... want to be everywhere
there's a ... lot to be said for nowhere."
What an amazing show. My first time seeing Ed solo. I caught the end of Liam's set, unfortunately.
He was quite funny and I especially got a kick out the Dubya mask!
Arc was just amazing live! I was wondering how he would pull that off.
As for the yelling jerkoffs? It seemed to be the same 3 or 4 people. I was in row Q, right in the middle. We kept "shushing" them like they were school children. They had to be drunk. AT least I HOPE they were, because I can't believe sober people can be such assholes! Let the guy sing!!
Unfortunately, I had to fly back home to Florida the next day. Would've loved to stay for Sunday.
P.S. To the gentlemen from Richmond on my right, I'll get those pics to you as soon as I download them!! Nice meeting you!
I was bitten, must have been the devil.....

What a great show! We were sitting in row D in the center....what a treat that was! I've never had seats so close before. My husband has a pretty crap fan club number, so it was cool this was random. Someone gave us quite the break, I guess!
Anyhow, Liam Finn was incredible. I've never seen a live performance that was so off the cuff, strange, beautiful and at times, loud and forceful. Crazy stuff!
I am a pretty emotional concert goer, so several of the songs really moved me. "Man of the Hour" and "Arc" moved me to tears, in fact. I've never experienced anything like "Arc" before...it was chilling. It was so cool to hear tracks from "Into the Wild". Overall, the set was solid and the conversation was great. It felt like we were hanging out with Ed for an evening.
The general jackassery of some of the crowd was embarassing...lots of getting up, yelling from the balcony, SPORTS commentary!!! I mean, seriously, what the hell!? There were some chicks with a sign in the row in front of us, which was a bit irritating, but they were mostly well behaved. Lots of good Ed commentary on the crowd, though...There was one point when Ed was going to bribe a guy a row or two in front of us to put his arms down with some pics. The guy had left (!!) so he gave them to the dude behind him who "had to suffer". Too funny.
We were sitting next to some really nice people, Josh & Shelly (I think!) from PA. Shelly is circusfreak on this board if I remember correctly. Our entire row was very well behaved. I wish everyone else could've taken the cues.
Oh, during Liam Finn's set, someone spilled an entire glass of red wine on a girl in a white shirt. Yikes! They were cool about it and bought her a poster and a tee shirt. I feel like maybe drinks should have been relegated to the lobby. Oh well!
What an amazing experience!!!
Yeah, I'm Josh. It was nice meeting you too!
I felt so sorry for the girl that got wine spilled down her back. White shirt, completely destroyed. Unbelievable.
Great show.
Oh help me, help me from myself!!!
Theres not going to be an accoustic version of Blood or anything like that, so feel free to sit down.
How funny was it when after Ed had the family out on stage said something like "I hope they don't show us up... we're fucked." And then goes "Oops... We're poopied. That's how you have to talk when you're a parent."
Pretty funny line and I'm sure mine wasn't verbatim but it's close enough.
Great fucking show. Ed going on his own for a short tour was a great idea and gave a lot of us fans who weren't old enough to grab a fan club membership back in the beginning of the band a great chance to experience Ed up close.
Thanks again to the 10c for the 2nd row center seats.
I was the guy who fixed your girlfriend's arm rest, if you saw that. I was sitting next to jocelyn, right on the isle, across from the blond who spilled the wine down your girl's back. felt so bad for you two.
Oh help me, help me from myself!!!
Theres not going to be an accoustic version of Blood or anything like that, so feel free to sit down.
edit: One rant, though- if you're going to get up and leave the show, come back, leave again, make everyone stand up, etc- DO IT IN BETWEEN SONGS! That's rule #1 when seeing a sit-down show and I'm surprised that alot of these yahoos don't know it. I'd be a big supporter of shutting down booze right after the show starts for this reason alone. End rant.
for real! I couldn't get 10C tickets this time and was in the Ticketmaster section. I don't want to complain but SHEESH--the people around me should have just gone to a bar. The couple next to me got up no less than 5 times, right in the middle of songs. The people in my row were more interested in drinking and yelling listening. I had to concentrate extra hard on the show and it definitely detracted from the magic for me...
But I'm still grateful to Eddie for being such a good sport and offering such a great night!
I actually did think of it! I put my daughter's college application essay (the essay where they ask you to write about anything) in an envelope with a note on it saying what it was & saying that it explains everything. She wrote about how for years I would play PJ in the car for them on the way to my son's ice hockey practices about an hour from our house, and how we bonded over PJ's music. When I got them PJ tickets in 2003 (long after our car rides to the hockey rink ended), they refused to go unless I came with them. I thought I was too old to go to a concert, but they insisted. We went, and I had a blast, and I've been hooked on the concerts ever since. I got the envelope to Eddie's driver, who promised to give it to his manager. I hope he does read it. She wrote it five years ago (it did get her into college), and it's really sweet.
That's super sweet. And sort of why I was at the DC show with my mom. She took me to my first Pearl Jam concert in DC on 1/15/05 and took care of everything. I was only 14 and couldn't drive, didn't have a credit card or a job... She just put me in the car and drove me from Pittsburgh and let me have the experience of my lifetime! So now that I make decent money and have a car, every time Pearl Jam plays DC I put HER in the car, treat her to a nice hotel and nice meal and an awesome concert! We always have the best time!
Anyway, thanks to the fans who behaved themselves that night and to Eddie for being SUCH a good sport about the vocal asshats.
I was afraid that reviewers and folks who aren't huge fans would think Eddie (who was clearly a bit frustrated and distracted) wasn't playing well or something... but I'm so glad that his talent and sincerity shined through. It was a magical performance as always!
I was the guy who fixed your girlfriend's arm rest, if you saw that. I was sitting next to jocelyn, right on the isle, across from the blond who spilled the wine down your girl's back. felt so bad for you two.
Yup. We remember that. We actually mentioned it during the long drive Sunday morning.
But really, the simpletons yelling did more to ruin the show than the wine-spilling. Sure it was kind of a bummer we couldnt see Liam's whole set, but I would have taken another glass of wine to the back if it made those people shut up.
Even with those factors, it was the best show I have ever been to.

made him ... want to be everywhere
there's a ... lot to be said for nowhere."

Yeah, I'm Josh. It was nice meeting you too!
I felt so sorry for the girl that got wine spilled down her back. White shirt, completely destroyed. Unbelievable.
Great show.
Theres not going to be an accoustic version of Blood or anything like that, so feel free to sit down.
I was the guy who fixed your girlfriend's arm rest, if you saw that. I was sitting next to jocelyn, right on the isle, across from the blond who spilled the wine down your girl's back. felt so bad for you two.

Great pics!
