"Blood" from the Fox Theater came on this morning and I was amazed at how fresh it sounded. At first, I thought it was the studio version (the drums and guitars were so crisp). I can't remember a live version captured that sound outside of the studio and just built on that raw live energy.

Didn't see Lollapalooza being a thing this year. And yet here we are. I doubt I'll go. If PJ was there I would make the effort but Fests and Lolla are no longer my thing. That being said, it feels good to see them happening.

I didn't really see the connection between Pearl Jam and Springsteen with E Street until recently. But they're both so entrenched in a similar 70's classic rock sound that I can't not hear it now. E Street has a lot more instruments in their arsenal but the musical aspect are so close.

It's been a long day but my wife is over her second vaccination and it just feels good to be there. Sure it doesn't take hold for two weeks but just the music shows rolling out and daily good vibes change so much from a year ago.

Feels like summer! One week until the official start. How long until a tour schedule?

I'm wondering about a short arena run in Nov/Dec. Followed by a bigger output in 2022. Maybe get that show in St. Louis I have tickets to.

"Thumbing My Way" always, I mean always comes up on the shuffle of my iPhone. So random. Very welcome but odd. I would love to know how the random algorithm on my phone works.

I used to wonder what eras I would love to see certain bands (Springsteen 78, or The Grateful Dead 76)....but I've come to realize I love bands in their current incarnations if they're lucky enough to be out there. Sure I'll never get to see Zeppelin, Floyd (probably) or The Dead but I love current Springsteen and Pearl Jam...there's something awesome about the career spanning setlists great bands bring.

How is it that one of my greatest accomplishments is getting one child to go to the bathroom on their own? I will stand by this. As I will stand by the Apollo show happening.

Loading up some 2000 PJ shows. Always interesting setlists. I've always found it so great that the band embraces their b-sides and deep cuts. Even before they became cult favorites. I'm not a "Leatherman" fan but they played it a lot in the 98-2000 era. That's a band committed to depth.

Someone recommended San Sebastian 2000 and it's amazing. The band really was tight in 2000. I always wonder about the crowd energy, thus my preference for shows from 13 and on. They're so solid. But man, this band just gives us troves of music. They're really amazing.

There is something about the band's tight sets that are fascinating and truly show the musicianship they are capable of and then there are the shows of the last 7 years where they jam out, flub up, get the crowd into it and it's hard to decide which one I love more.

Boston 03, Night 1 is vastly underrated. It's a really great show. I might even be so bold as to say it's better than night 3.

"Rival" and "Evacuation" are on the cusp of being 21 years old and it took every bit of those years for them to grow on me and now I'd love to hear them live. The only song I skip or just can't get into when it comes to shows is "Jeremy" but when I'm there I still love it. It's nice to be back in a Pearl Jam groove. Feels wonderful.

I remember going to get Binaural at a midnight release and I had no clue it was mid-May. I know classes were done for the semester but I just chuckled when I saw it was on May 16th. We finished early. I loved those midnight releases. The only other super vivid release I remember was getting Kid A on a rainy night in October, perfect for the night. I don't know that I ever hit another midnight release. Gone the way of the dodo is also the waiting in line for tickets. I got shut out of Chicago in 2000 and had to take Alpine instead. I'll never forget the Ice Bowl.

As the summer opens and we're all crawling out of our skins for normal I wish everyone a happy and safe summer. Hopefully there are a few shows but mostly just a beginning return to the normal we want/need.

Pearl Jam at their worst get a little sloppy (on only a few songs), at their most boring they're a fantastic album band but the majority of the time they are neither of these things - 90% of the time they are firing on all cylinders and they are a behemoth. Just plowing my way through April 03 and it's a revelation. Fascinating. I've listened to these shows before but not so deliberate. The band is musically at its tightest.

2 shows in the books, looks like a promising fall. I'm assuming we wait for indoor shows until late winter/spring 2022 and that's just fine. Let's hope our South American friends get some Lolla love like usual. I just can't wait to follow a setlist thread.

Halfway through April of 03 and it's fascinating to listen to the evolution of this tour. They're so tight but what I do remember very well is when the tour turns into a powder keg of anti-war, it's as if they were watching the news and the absurdity build up to the point where each show was a literal reaction. It's fascinating how they held themselves back in 2016 and 2018, age brings chill?

Nashvill 03 has an amazing version of Better Man where the band plays a snippet of Wild Thing....it's so fun. No clue why it happened there and I'm not sure it happened again but it was so great. Look it up.

It occurred to me, the last show I saw before the world shut down was Hootie and the Blowfish. Fun but not the note I want to go out on. I've been looking for shows like crazy.

Having my kids take swim lessons and it’s fascinating how scared they are of going under. It’s a life skill and they need it but man it’s a challenge to acclimate them. I remember all the fun I had swimming as a kid and none of the terror. Clearly I was too young when I learned but it’s just another parental eye opener.

Finishing April 03 and man, what a month. I'd love to hear some comps of other amazing months and/or legs. The setlist expands. The shows are spot on fire. It's fascinating that this month ends with the Nassau show....I loved when "Down" was a fixture. I also love the Love Boat Captain into Wishlist, such a cool concept and smooth integrated song choice.
