Canada looking like it is light years behind the US regarding opening up and loosening restrictions. I know we are behind in vaccines but even that green fall restriction guideline does not have me super excited for seeing concerts again anytime soon here.

looks like an aa conference near windsor I attend end of feb and end of july is off for this july too....

Oh yeah, absolutely. I didn't see that comment before that you replied to, but good data from lots of different jurisdictions showing just how marked the difference it in infection rates and illness rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Very large population based studies are showing very small rates of infection, illness, death AND TRANSMISSION to others in vaccinated individuals.

I'm only getting my first shot in a few days, and they still need to work from the 40s down to the 12s.   Then rinse and repeat.   It is possible the US might start exporting even more vaccines which could expedite our efforts?

Ya I think we are doing ok all things considered with vaccinations. I was critical in the past on spacing out the shots but evidence is showing now that it might be more beneficial to do so. I hope those that got their first shot however are going to get their second too. 

I do not see 75% of the population getting their shot though. Maybe I am wrong but that is not a number that will be attainable by fall or ever. I see more than 25% of the population passing on this vaccine in Canada.  I am hoping that that they are posting such a large number that they are in order to try and convince those on the fence to get the shot to help towards herd immunity and opening back up. When they do not reach that number what then? We just sit idle waiting for what? People to slowly get sick and get herd immunity through infection? 

I get the US is ahead too but if you look at those restrictions this whole  summer they are advising masks indoors and out for vaccinated people. That is ridiculous imo. The restrictions that they are showing being lifted by fall are pretty weak compared to wear the US stands today with restrictions. Maybe that can change but to have 75% of your population full vaccinated by the fall and still have a note saying you will still need to follow some public health measures is bullshit imo.

I think vaccinations are coming along really well now after a slow start. We are behind the US and the UK but ahead of almost every other major country in doses given per capita (leaving aside tiny little places like Monaco - it’s easy to vaccinate your population when you only have a few tens of thousands in a small space).

I am usually in favour of being cautious about lifting restrictions but these guidelines out-caution even me  Ah well, this will help avoid another wave, and if things go really well with the US reopening then perhaps we will speed up a bit. 

Edit: Anyone over 20 is eligible to book their vaccine appointment as of today in BC; not sure about the other provinces. 

This last Monday Alberta opened the vaccine up to everyone 12 and over. It looks like our covid numbers here are finally starting to fall too. I think combo of nice weather, vaccines and our new restrictions the covid numbers will fall off a cliff.

I'm very optimistic about this summer. I should have my second AstraZeneca shot by the end of July at the latest. The darkest days are behind us, fingers crossed.

This is my county, metro Richmond, VA.  We only had 9 new cases in the last 24 hours.  Two weeks ago, it was 54.  So things are dropping very quickly.  Vax + sane precautions have worked.  Kids have been back in school for a few months too.

Trump convinced susceptible morons that the virus didn't exist when he knew otherwise. To anyone with a sense of decency, that's unforgivable. Biden took a different position and encouraged rational evidence-driven thought, and deaths decreased under his watch. Even if Trump had absolutely excelled at Project Warp Speed, it wouldn't hold a candle to the damage he has done to this democracy and the social fabric.
