Great, but the message he’s putting out to that different audience, that the coverage from both sides is equally bad is bullshit.

The coverage from the right is demonstrably worse. It’s contributing to the death toll & making recovery more difficult.

I’m all for fair criticism, but that’s not what this is, this is false equivalency.

I agree with the bolded wholeheartedly. We’re both saying it. Fear and no hope angle and the constant overload of this type of coverage could lead to things like depression, suicide, drug overdose etc... both sides overplayed their hand to the point of hurting people in different ways, all for ratings essentially imo. Not everyone is mentally strong enough to deal with the doomsday coverage.

Except suicides went down in 2020. So yea, both sides. And what’s all this “no hope” bullshit being spewed? I haven’t seen that at all. Go live your life. Sheesh.

Isn’t that what we’ve been told by the virus is going to virus crowd? And what is this “doom and gloom, there’s no hope” reporting you’re (General you) going on about? Reporting what we know about covid, it’s impact in lives lost, how it’s mutated and why that’s a problem, etc? No hope? I’m not getting any of that from CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, The New Yorker, or USA Today, WSJ, Times Colonist, etc. Or from well established science foundations and leading research universities. No hope? Get off Doom Book and Doom Twit.

I am not sure what sites you have been looking at in the last year but if you think those sites you listed where not of the more negative manner regarding covid any chance they could get I am not sure what to tell you. From never going back to normal to variants attacking young healthy people at an alarming rate the list goes on and on.

Does it matter what vaccination we get next year? Meaning, I got Pfizer this time around, Do I need to get Pfizer next year or will moderna be fine? I only ask because these vaccinations are obviously so new.

I’ve never heard “never going back to ‘normal,’” unless it’s in the context of working from home is more readily accepted/available, that long commutes and living in expensive cities isn’t necessary to drive production, and other ways that are altered. Mask mandates will be around for awhile but will eventually become a personal choice, like many folks in Asia accept because of population density and air quality issues. Because we won’t go back to “normal” pre-pandemic isn’t doomsday reporting, It’s reality. Have we returned to “normal” after 9/11?

Reporting on young people being hospitalized at higher rates because of the nature of the variants also isn’t doomsday reporting. It’s reporting factual information so people can make decisions about how they carry on with their lives. How they choose to do so isn’t the responsibility of the media. Would you rather not have these facts reported? Because they’ve been reported are people not leaving their basements? 565,000 dead Americans with about a third of the population vaccinated and there’s “no hope?” Please.

For those unfortunate souls who watch Bill Maher all the time like me, know he’s been on an anti left tear since the pandemic began, which he significantly escalated this year. Trump rioters invade the Capitol and four cops are dead as a result, what does Maher do the next week? Attack democrats for bad California banking regulations. His point that Desantis has done better than Cuomo regarding the aged was absurd (and this very thread is littered with my anti Cuomo comments on his handling of covid).

The list of facts Maher is ignoring here to score points against Dems is enormous. NY tests double that of FL, and FL has a much higher covid death to total test rate, which suggest FL is missing millions of covid cases, which likely means they are also not catching thousands of covid deaths. Yet currently, FL is trending up while NY is trending down. FL does not have the urban density anywhere in its state like the NY metro region which puts NY in a much higher risk than FL for transmission.

Cuomo since Labor Day has actually been aggressive by opening schools, and then relaxing the health dept rules each time they would have shut down the schools. With rising cases in the winter has he shut down schools? Nope, and every week more and more are at 100% capacity. He has even allowed HS team contact sports, which has led to many outbreaks. Although risk of transmission in a school is lower than at a restaurant, the overall risk in NY since Labor Day has been higher, since schools require staffing and vendors to stay open.

It’s amazing someone like Maher who has banked $150 million thanks to politics, knows so little about current events in forming his “opinion of the week”
