Finally tried Donkey’s Place. Interesting variation for sure but I wasn’t too blown away.

I've only had a Donkey's  cheesesteak a few times but I  don't recall it being  square like the one you had^^^. (or it wasn't square but it just looks that way in the picture?)

Either way, I'd assume that should have nothing to do with how it would taste.

Forgot to post this the other day. From Liberty Kitchen in No Libs. It’s mortadella, burrata, and pistachio pesto. I believe it was supposed to come with arugula as well but I opted out of that. Good shit.

Anyone ever have the cheese fries at Ishkabibble’s? They are the GOAT. I don’t know what they use in that cheese, but it’s not just wiz, they must do something to it.

Ishkabibble's is good stuff. Would do it as an occasional walk from work for lunch, when that was a thing people did.

For reals?  Huh, have to check it out.  Haven't been there.  Right across from Jim's is a tough spot, although if it doesn't have a line that would certainly make it easier.
My wife loves Jim's that is her favorite.

I’ve been to the actual location twice and it was very busy both times but not much of a line. The steak itself is every bit as good as Jim’s IMO but those cheese fries are really something else. They also have a drink called the “Gremlin” which is half lemonade and half grape juice. Add the 3 together and it’s a complete package.

    That drink sounds completely disgusting.
I would try it!  :)  Perhaps it is a thing of beauty.
Will give it a go.  I like Jim's fine, but I don't think it is as good as my wife does.  Would happily try IckyBicky with some cheese fries and the purple drank.

I love that you keep working your way through what the city has to offer, for steaks.

I don't think I will ever see a big dent in the number of tries I make, given a few factors.
    1)  I don't live or work in the city, so the lunch spots are not frequent/convenient.
    2)  Philly has so many great food options it is tough to always think Steak when I am there.
    3)  The Roast Pork is so far and above a better sammie, imo, that it makes it really tough when I go to a new spot to look past trying the Pork.  I like if I am wit someone who is down to do a 1/2 and 1/2 split with me so we can try both.
    4)  There are SO many other great sammies in Philly that even if I look beyond the Pork at a new place I try, it is also challenging to look beyond some of the spectacular options on the menu and go to the Steak.
    5)  Just too fucking many.  Must be hundreds of places that serve a decent-good-to great Steak in Philly and surrounding suburbs.

Keep going, though, you can shine a light on the Must Try spots for those of us who struggle with 1-5, above.  :)

Yeah, Jim's is way overrated. It's fine. There's definitely places that have great sandwiches, but the Philly staples (especially the cheesesteak) can be found anywhere in the greater Philly area and are more than fine. As long as you're, I'd say, no more than a ~30 mile radius around Center City you'll find a good sandwich. Outside of that it starts to get iffy.

    Lunch Meat City FTW.

And, yes, keep this going. I enjoy it.

My buddy once smashed in the front window of Jims in a drunken rage back in 03-ish. I also left my cell  phone there that night.

Good times. I like their steaks.

Well the funny thing is I called from my landline looking for it the next morning and when I called Jim's I spoke to a really pissed off employee who just happened to be cleaning up a mess some asshole left in there the night before. hahaha

If not for some once-every-100 years-shit I think we would be singing a different tune by now. But, yes, we deserve better damnit, no excuse for the previous three years.
