    Can you imagine how much Trump would be ripped if he said "there’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months"?   I could not stand Trump but he would be ripped to shreds if he said this.  Biden's statement implies that mask wearing, social distancing, and other measures pushed by the health care community and Democrats for the last 10 months have no impact.  I just don't believe his statement is accurate.   Americans may not do the things necessary to change it but there isn't nothing we can do.   Sounds like self-serving comment for Mr. Biden.

    One is responsible for the trajectory, the other not. Big difference. That's the thing about trajectories of this magnitude. Change in course will not have immediate results, at least comparative to the magnitude of the problem. Also, safety measures employed by some have had an impact. Troubling to imagine the death toll had everyone acted selfish assholes.

    i don't personally understand the idea that some people have that mask wearing and distancing and lockdowns don't work. they clearly work. while i hate it, and most do, our numbers went down significantly during this lockdown.

    i'm fine with setting expectations, but telling people there's nothing we can do will potentially make people throw their hands in the air and say "fuck it then". it's the wrong message IMO. how does he reconcile his 100 day mask request with "nothing we can do"?

    I'm not absolving Trump.   I would say he is responsible for 20% of the deaths because no president could keep dumb americans from being dumb, or prevent a virus that is easy to spread from spreading.  Countries across Europe are struggling too and Americans would never agree to South Korea/China like restrictions on behavior.  Biden was trying to be truthful and temper expectations (truthful but also self-serving), but his nothing we can do comment doesn't make any sense.
