There are a lot of hateable people in the GOP but when making a list, it sure doesn’t take long to get to Matt Gaetz.

More fake ass two-faces douche bags.

And worse yet they are really fucking stupid and unable to reason at any level.  He’s a TV evangelist as a politician...using people...and they keep propping him up much like idiots keep sending tv evangelist checks.

Gaetz is absolutely right in that tweet. It is Donald Trump's party.

Well, it is starting to feel like some legislators are starting to accept that he's probably not going to get his second term and they are showing less devotion. That said, the GOP rank-and-file is so devoted to Trump that it's hard to imagine a near future in which the party doesn't exist in his image. Look at Perdue and Loeffler virtue-signalling their Trump devotion after being accused of not going to bat for him.

It's going to be really interesting to see what happens in the coming months. It certainly doesn't feel like Trump's base is going to lose any of its fervor. On the other hand, there's not much point in GOP legislators sucking up to him if he's not in office.  Will the GOP go back to "normal" through attrition? Or will they continue to show that all they really care about is one-party authoritarianism?  Right now, it looks like the latter, but I guess the impact of Trump not being in office is an unknown at this point.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of candidates run in 2022 and, of course, for president in 2024.  Will someone named "Trump" run and steamroll his or her way to the nomination? Will some Trumpy like Crenshaw or Haley take over? The question then is whether the cult will keep up its fervor for someone else. It's kind of hard to say.  Or will this all kind of drift away?  I tend to think Trumpism is still king in the party, in no small part because they know they're losing most Americans so they want very devoted people and people that will back nonsense like voter suppression and conspiracy theories.

you absolutely could be right. I admittedly push back on a lot of your statements like this because I desperately want this chapter in global politics to be over, and I really think he's given too much credit for just being himself. he's not a genius. he's not politically savvy. he's a bottom feeing asshole that appeals to other bottom feeding assholes. we just didn't know there we so many.

I don't know that it will end. But I certainly hope, over time, the name Trump fades away from the political realm. and not just him. his whole brood of crooks and charlatans.

it just depends on so many factors; whether the cult-like status remains, even when a new contender emerges in the next couple years, how much his family is litigated and possibly prosecuted to the point of financial obliteration, and how long trumpsters want to keep being seen by the rest of the planet as laughingstock losers. but i suppose not many cult members see things rationally or objectively.

What is normal? They have literally been the party of self righteous racist pricks and the enemies of progressive policy since before I was born. ‘82 I don’t want whatever normal was. I would like to see a whole new party.
