I'm not sure I could exactly say the party is dying, but I do believe it is endangered. Why can't you Americans do what us Canadian do...watch the election campaign 4-6 weeks or whatever it is (it's not long), vote, watch the results after 9 eastern, and usually know the winner by 10 and within a couple of weeks the winner is sworn in...the US will still being counting votes at Christmas...and no one (to my knowledge) protest the winner just after the election victory...the many of us including the those on the winning grumble (some of us more than others, LOL) off and on and we vote again 4 years later...repeat the process...
