I don’t think you’re really advocating for free market wages, are you?  How do financial institutions set labor prices?  I worked for a large bank for years, and I’m certain I never did anything with macro wages.
The financial arrangements of the economy as a whole, using the stock market as a measure but forgetting the people on the ground.  Arguing that minimum wage jobs are meant to be teen starter jobs etc. You know the years of neo con and neo lib policies that have kept wages down while demanding more productivity with arguments like “is it better to work for what the market dictates or nothing at all?”. That is the same reasoning that labor is abused all over the world, “if they didn’t make $3.00 a day they wouldn’t make anything”. Just enough of an argument to assuage the guilt of people that are heavily invested in the system of exploiting labor.  Those heavily invested in this system need to put as much urgency into fixing these issues as climate change etc, because a dispossessed and oppressed mass of Millions of people will be a lot harder to deal with later.

And yet Bezos’ net worth is $196 billion. I’m sure he could swing selling some of his 54 million shares and not fall into poverty. Let’s give him an Obamaphone and call it a day.

Do you speak for all X’ers regarding their love, or not, for AOC?
Yes, I have elected myself as the voice of X.  It was a tough campaign with some dirty mud slinging, but I pulled it off.

The point is that you missed a generation when discussing Kamala and AOC.

Point on Bezos is that he has 4% of the vote. I’m also a shareholder and would want Amazon to locate and negotiate the best possible deal.  That’s my expectation as a fractional owner.

What is this “petty criticism” you speak of? Why should AOC be “silent” in the face of criticism, “petty” or otherwise? The left has been “silent” for far too fucking long and look where it’s gotten us. Unless you like where “we” are right now?

Yea, AOC needs “wisdom” because clearly without it, she’d still be tending bar.
My initial entry into this round, which apparently triggered some of you, was a response to a posting of a CNN article. That article tells you what petty argument erupted. NBC said this. She tweeted that. Read the article.

Again. It's a shame -- those 60 seconds really were lost. She implied in her poem she didn't want to blow it. In fact, the speech itself was quite beautiful. She blew it at 130 in the morning when she decided to respond to the press's stupid reaction to it.

Co-Sign...  If people think AOC is radical they are probably better off reorganizing the Republican Party into a viable conservative option and leaving the left.  AOC and the squad and all the new progressive faces are the future of the party and will eventually be the face of the left.
Oh that’s a great party slogan.  Good thing you aren’t leading the party.

    I didn’t miss X as I’m a member of X. I don’t “love” AOC but I’m not afraid of her either. That’s the point.

So if Bezos sold some of his 54 million shares to raise the $250 million to relocate or open a regional headquarters to, pick your city, you, as a fellow fractional share holder, would lose out how?

Remember when $15 an hour was going to bankrupt companies and small businesses and lead to rising unemployment?

And congratulations on your hard fought campaign victory. Now, go take a shower.

I wouldn’t expect Bezos to use his personal money to relocate the company.  I don’t understand the argument. If he wanted to do that, great but nor sure why he would.  Also, these were not warehouse jobs, they were office jobs.  We have two warehouses in Richmond, one 15 minutes north of the city and the other about 30 minutes south.  I would think you would normally put warehouse work outside the city due to both traffic and lower cost of living, similar to call center work.

Yup I was a republican.  I’m not a fan of the entire Dem party.  But the issues of gun control, gay marriage/equality, and more and more Health care are the ones that drive me away from GOP. And then the trump campaign and presidency showed I had no place there.  I’m fine with voting for people I disagree with on policy but not on moral issues.  Obama helped moved me to the Dems, though I was disappointed in his presidency in some ways and actually like Mitt. But the GOP became something very awful once Mitt lost.

However, if the dem party is going to be the party of Sanders/AOC, I’m not sure how long I’ll stay. I guess it will depend on if I ever have a real alternative.

Not relocate the company, the whole pitting cities and states against each other in a race to the bottom, in the form of tax breaks/credits, to open a regional HQ. No need to rehash the Amazon debate as I’m pretty sure we both know where the other stands.

Here's another thing that I find sad.

On the environment, I think we need the Green New Deal. Go big or go home, I say. There is no more time for waiting.

On police reform, I think we need a massive shift in how we allocate resources and carry out public safety.

On immigration, I think we need amnesty and fewer restrictions on movement between borders. Anyone who lives in America should be able to vote, citizen or not.

On the economy, I think we need a living wage, more affordable housing and health care and child care and tuition.

On all the identity issues, I think we need to completely eradicate the entire notions of race as a construct. Anyone can love and marry or just fuck whomever they want.

On guns, I think we need to ban the manufacture of every last one of them.

I think we need all these things, but for some reason, AOC doesn't speak to me. That is her problem.

Does sound familiar refer to your wise crack or the 1:30 am tweet that apparently triggered you? Both are familiar to me but again, I’m not triggered by a 1:30 am tweet. By anyone.

If a news outlet misrepresented your role or statements at a school board meeting, that the principal and/or superintendent asked you to speak at, and the local hate media amplified it to paint you as someone you’re not because you’re a young liberal scary teacher with a radical agenda, would you use the social media tools at your disposal, write a letter to the editor or remain silent in the defense of your character and the role you played in the school committee meeting?

Probably because there’s no soul to save and it’ll take generations. He won’t live long enough to see it be saved.

Not relocate the company, the whole pitting cities and states against each other in a race to the bottom, in the form of tax breaks/credits, to open a regional HQ. He could self fund it, no tax credits/breaks required and not miss a beat. It’s called re-investment. How are the property values in Crystal City and environs? In AOC’s district, chances were, the locals don’t get the jobs and get gentrified out of the neighborhood. Why does someone with 54 million shares of amazon stock and a net worth of $196 billion need a tax break/credit of any kind? IMHO, it’s obscene.

No need to rehash the Amazon debate as I’m pretty sure we both know where the other stands.
Gentrification is the most compelling argument to kill the deal.  But that has nothing to do with taxes.  I'm very sympathetic to lower class people getting priced out.

You didn’t answer why Bezos needs a tax break of any kind. Why can’t he reinvest in his own company? Why do the taxpayers have to subsidize his “benevolence?”

The net effect of all the Republican drift of the past few decades was basically moving the Overton window even further right while validating the new far right face of the Republican Party And turning the Democrats to a center right party.  @mrussel1 so only politicians care about their parties? I’m sure that isn’t what you were saying.  It’s similar how the Democratic Party has abandoned blue collar and working class in favor of getting more moderate republicans. Unfortunately there isn’t an alternate option to the Democrats for progressives, instead we get called radicals or whatever and our favored candidates and supporters are painted as boogeymen that will help get Trump the presidency.
Trick question: where in the constitution does it say America has a two party system?

Hahaha -- YOU are not triggered by Team Trump Treason tweeting at all hours of the night? Hahaha.

And to answer the question: Sorry, social media is the last fucking place I would air my grievances about a professional matter. For real.  If my boss asked me to speak at the committee, I wouldn't need to defend myself. HE would defend me. And I would carry on about my life. I don't need to curate my public persona for anybody. Again, that's just something that happens when you get older. You stop caring about the stories other people tell about you.

No, I’m not. I don’t feel the need to limit my social media exposure to an hour a day nor do I have a Twitter account or follow anyone on Twitter. Check their feeds? Sure. Be offended? Sometimes. But complain about “triggering” while being triggered? No, I have wisdom. And a deep love, interest and appreciation for all things political. I’m 33 pages in on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Volume V. You, and everyone else, should read it. Makes Team Mueller look like child’s play. Bi-partisan, methodical, footnoted and my favorite, redacted, which begs questions.

No I'm saying Cincy is probably just a normal guy with a normal job.  It's not incumbent in him to stay in the party to try to fix it from within.  That's the role of the party leaders and elected officials.

Based on the deafening silence following AOC’s 1:30 am tweet, I’d say she effectively shut up her critics on this issue. That said, your response and likely action is why you’re (General you) are on the way out. New generation, new methods and tactics. Everyone becomes a dinosaur eventually. Then dust.

You didn’t answer why Bezos needs a tax break of any kind. Why can’t he reinvest in his own company? Why do the taxpayers have to subsidize his “benevolence?”
We're not talking about Bezos,  we're talking about Amazon the corporation.  Do they need a break? No.  But as a shareholder,  I support them negotiating the best deal while still being responsible citizens.  I believe in the eyes of their board,  the tax they pay and economic activity they generate is an appropriate tradeoff vs them generating zero activity by going somewhere else.

Where are they going to go? They encouraged a race to the bottom to open two or three regional headquarters. Amazon the company doesn’t need to beg for tax credits or breaks when their founder could reinvest his own profit into the company he founded to the benefit of taxpayers and shareholders. And still not miss a beat, jeopardize his well being or wealth or suffer any type, shape or form of ill effect. Such a tragedy to ask Jeff to reinvest less than 1% of his net worth. Too much to ask, I guess?

Why is it that the only time this thread opens back up is when she explodes on someone, or about something, on Twitter? Maybe not to you, but to me, that is childish. I would suggest she's not such the master of media people would like us to believe.  If she were such a master at it, the entire country would be in love with her. We're not.
Strange definition of mastery for sure, that everyone has to be “in love” with you.

Cause it's a publicly traded company, it's not Bezos.  It's Amazon.  He has people he is accountable to.

It's the same market system as when you want to buy a new car.  Do you simply pay MSRP or do you shop around for the best deal?  Lowest cost?  Best Financing?  Maybe maintenance deal thrown in?  Heck even car washes.

It's just fundamentally you don't believe people should have over an amount of $.  What is that limit for you?  It's not a bad belief at all, especially depending on the level.  I think the majority of people likely have a number that starts to seem ridiculous.
