The coronavirus

tbergs said:Yep, things are going to get nasty because people aren't dying fast enough anymore so the demand to return to normal will only become more fervent. We are in a tough position right now because if for some reason the virus doesn't see a resurgence due to reopening, the attitude among the non-believers against science will only increase and gain traction that it shouldn't. There are enough self proclaimed experts on here alone to gauge how many among the world population think their "common sense" is better than expert opinions. These are also the same people who like Trump. It's no surprise and is easily comparable to the already decades old battle about climate change that has never gained full support. Nothing you or any article you link (especially from the media, experts or national health community) will change their minds. They have it all figured out. We're the sheep.
My parents have this same stupid thinking and bitch about our Democratic governor ruining the state. I love my parents to death, but honestly, they need to get it or they'll never figure it out. Unfortunately, sometimes something tragic has to happen in order for people, and society at large, to change for the better. Apparently, 100,000 strangers (for most anyway) doesn't mean shit.0 -

Those like you who work in a store are there for hours. People who come in to shop are generally there for just minutes. Asking people to wear a mask is not a lot to ask. I hope must of you customers are smart and caring enough to do that. When the pandemic hit, I stopped working at the bookstore and just do my book sales on line now. I'm fortunate to basically be able to do mostly be retired (and certainly old enough to do so.)
It's a hopeless situation...0 -

It's not a very positive subject. Especially for those who test positive for the virus.

It's not a very positive subject. Especially for those who test positive for the virus.Yeah, the protesting is a complex situation. On the one hand, it's very understandable that people are protesting. On the other hand, I think you're right- cases are sure to spike. And the same with opening up of the economy. To some extent, that has to be done. Yet the risk goes up along with it.I guess the reason I'm feeling discourage is that yesterday, we drove up to Camino to our favorite remote (i.e., very safe) walking trail and drove through town on the way up. All up and down Main St. I saw clusters of people without masks on. It's not a long street, but on the two blocks we drove on I only noticed one guy (who was by himself) wearing a mask. The pleasant weather and weekend combination seems to lead people to relaxing their precautions. I dread what the future statistics may show. But I should also at least acknowledge that right now, the infection rates in Calif. are very stable. We watched governor Newsom at noon give his updates and the charts he showed look promising... for now. I think the reason he is back to doing the updates on TV might indicate some concern. We shall see. Hoping things stay stable!

I’m by no means a “virus is a democratic hoax” guy, but I cannot take these statistics as being highly accurate. I will continue to take proper precautions though.0 -
