I've heard the easiest way to meet Stone is by going to a Brad show.

I wish they'd come out to Australia again, I missed them last time and love this band.

I first met Stone @ a Ben Harper gig here in Melbourne (which Brad were supporting) back in 97'... I almost died cause it was something that i TOTALLY never expected!!!

I then met Ed,Jeff,Mike,Stone & Jack in 98' when PJ toured Melbourne..I have alreasy posted about my experiences on the board before..need;ess to say that it was one of the BIGGEST highlights of my life, I met them @ the hotel that they were staying at.

I first off met Jeff, he was nice, mind you when i met him it was pretty early in the morning and i don't think he was really in the mood for fans..but he was gracious enough to sign for those who were there and take photo's which was cool!

I then met Mike who was SUPER nice, really sweet and talkative! the one thing that got me was that on this particular day my REALLY OLD camera wasn't working all that well and i wanted to get my photo taken with him..anyway what totally surprised me was that he hung around & waited while i got my camera going again & I got my photo taken!!!

Then Jack came out, he was alright, not very talkative, but he signed for those who were there.

Then Stone came out..Consdering how Obsessed I am with him, I totally shocked myself by not going up to him, I just stood back and didn't do anything, but then he walked over to myself & the person i was with and said "Have you got anything that you want me to sign?" which of course i did!

I was more surprised when he recognised me from the Ben Harper show!! Could NOT believe it!! He signed everything that I had (cd's, fan club singles & my own personal diary..which everyone signed!! :) )

The absolute HIGHLIGHT of my day was something that i TOTALLY NEVER expected to happen, I was hanging round the front of the hotel not really doing much when I noticed Ed walking toward the hotel...surprisingly i DIDN'T freak out, I just said "Hi Ed" and he came over, put his hand on my shoulder :D & said "y'know I'll sign whatever y'wan't, but no photo's" I obviously had to respect that..He was sooo nice and really cool, he signed everything that I had also and wrote a personal message in my diary saying "To Belinda, May you finish this book and many others - Eddie Vedder" Incorporated into his signature is the Yield sign VERY COOL!! :D I now have this and a couple of other things from this day framed and hanging in my Bedroom..so that my kids CANNOT ruin it!!!

It was TRULY one of the best days of my life and believe me I was on cloud nine ALL day..I still remember every little detail 10 years later, I've gotta hold on to these memories cause I know I'm NEVER gonna get to meet PJ again

If any of you want to check out my Memorabilia from this time it's on my Facebook page..PM me if y'wanna check it out and i'll let y'know my name :)
Thats freaking AWESOME!!!! One of the coolest stories ive heard!!!

  • I'm honestly waiting for the next person to tell another awesome story...
  • just last night...

stone's solo show in los angeles. there were no more than 10 fan club members there it seemed and i swear i think i was the only person in the whole house wearing a pj shirt.

i was singing along with his new songs that have been released through pearljam.com and i was right up front. he noticed me singing his new material and nodded at me a couple times.

this led to me getting his setlist that had his "thank you" notes written on it and a pick =)

    good times indeed!

  • I met Ed in the SEA-TAC Airport. I was waiting for a flight to LA and he came walking up. Wound up he was flying out that same day to Boston for the start of the East Coast Solo tour. Got to have a quick chat. He said he liked my hat and I said I liked his. Talked about Rich Harden going to the Cubs too. Then he went in his pocket and gave me a guitar pick before he walked over to his gate. Got to take a photo and the link is below!

I met Mike outside his hotel in Melbourne '03 as I was hanging around like a bad smell to catch a glimpse of anyon!! He rolled up in the rental car and I got a photo and a signed Ticket stub of the great man.

If anyone has seen that immagine in cornice dvd i can vouch for the fact that he actually does hang around with everyone until every last photo and autograph desired has been completed and then say goodnight - a true fans man!!! Onya Mike!.

I've been mistaken for Eddie in a dark bar before. So no, I've never met any of the guys, but I guess I've kinda had the reverse. The chick was drunk, so obviously I had to play along. I'm sure she woke up the next day, excitedly looked for the picture of her and Eddie Vedder and realized "Shit, that's just some dude"

I know it may sound cruel to trick someone like that, but she should have known better. What would Eddie Vedder be doing in a dingy bar in Winnipeg, wearing a Winnipeg Jets hockey jersey, hanging out with a group of scuzzy punks at the back of the bar? I guess it didn't dawn on her that nobody else was asking for autographs and pictures.
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?
  • I met Ed at Sleater-Kinney's last show in Portland a couple years ago, and I used to see Stone at my neighborhood library all the time when I lived in the Wallingford district. On his bike, might I add.

Was going up the escalator in Smithsonian Air Museum in DC last summer, looked down and saw Jeff with I'm guessing his mom and dad. I said his name, he looked up...I gave him a thumbs up..he smiled..then I said "See you Tonight". I could have gone down other side and asked for autograph or to speak to him but thought he was chilling with his folks and let him be.
Course my bud made fun of me for days giving him a thumbs up....hey you get tongue tied...LOL

Now in retrospect..really wish I would have thanked his parents "for supporting the band before it was a band." :)

  • I work in the industry & have met the guys at various times. They are just as awesome as you'd expect. Everytime I have dealings with them it has all been overwhelmingly positive.
The guys who work for them are so over-the-top holier than thou, though... you'd laugh.

I caught one of these ridiculously obnoxious roadies in a bar a few years ago after soundcheck.. tossing McCready's guitar picks over the floor and bragging that he could get $60 for them and Ed's set list (which was in this guy Steve's pocket) on eBay.
Then he got pretty lit up & went on & on about how no one calls them "roadies" anymore because it's degrading.
I told him well... no one really calls US "groupies" anymore but the effect is the same.

Their roadies are FAR more entertaining than the actual guys in the band.

I've told this one quite a few times, but I like telling it and it doesn't get old to me.

The day after Lollapalooza 07 my friends and I were at O'hare airport in Chicago. We had had a LONG night before and were all very tired, I remember I had a pounding headache. Coffee, of course, was our first priority. After wanding for a while we find a Starbucks in the airport and of course, it was closed.

After about 10 minutes, a crowd of jet-lagged zombies had formed around the starbucks. Then my friend starts acting weird, pretty much wispering in my ear and violently poking me. After asking him what the hell we was trying to say about 4 times, he muttered, "turn around"

I turn and right behind us in line, is Sir Mike McCready. I said hello, we shook hands, took a picture...all the usual Rockstar/fan stuff. We thought he was just going to be on his way but he actually stayed and chatted with us for about 15 minutes. We told him we were aspiring musicians so he talked for bit about how the key to a successful band is good bass and drums, "Guitar players? We're a dime a dozen," he told me. He even introduced us to his wife and 4month old daughter.

Craziest moment of my life, I do believe.

I'm to the left of mike with the green lolla shirt...with the goofiest, dumbass smile ever.

Met Ed in Osaka, 1995. During Porch jam, he climbed up into the balcony. Everyone was fairly calm actually. It was kind of funny...he kind of just hung out in the crowd for a minute and tried to tell people to stay cool and be quiet so there wouldn't be a security issue. Me and my buddy, plus a few guys from Seattle were the only Americans in the section. He saw we were Americans and motioned to us. We walked with him down the stairs back to the stage level alongside security and had a minute to chat. I just thanked him for their music and for coming to Japan since I had been a fan since '92 and hadn't been able to see them yet because I had been there for 3 years already.

I also met Matt back in 2001 at a Wellwater Conspiracy show. It was a small club in Vegas that no longer exists. There were a couple of local bands which most people came to see. By the time WWC played at 1:30am, only 50-60 people were there - only about 4 or 5 of us knew who Matt was and he hung out a bit and took some photos with us. I helped load gear into their van after that!

I had lunch with Stone on Saturday. He was at the Timberland Dig It tree planting event. I think I was the only one there that knew who he was and who Pearl Jam was.
When we came in for lunch, I got my tamales and drink and walked out to sit in the shade and Stone was there with Mark Smith. I asked if I could join them and they said, 'Sure'. We didn't talk anything about Pearl Jam or music, except I asked what time he was going on that night. We talked about Jeremy (Toback) and Mike and Eddie a bit... but, mostly about environmental stuff and the delicious home-made tamales. I talked to Smitty about the SurfRiders and Huntington Beach and Palos Verdes and El Portal and Leucadia and eating breakfast at 'The PotHolder' in Long Beach... and about the Mead Housing Projects and the foreboding Los Angeles Men's Central jail that dominated their skyline. It was nice.

That is so funny!! I've been mistaken for Eddie in a dark bar before, too!! Only for me it was weird because I'm a girl who is blonde and six feet tall, but I was flattered!
