In my humble opinion I declare this best rock album 2019. Sturgill Simpson Sound and Fury.
Give it an honest listen cover to cover on whatever your Music playing vehicle is. What say you? I've ordered the CD and the vinyl, I think it's fist-pumping punch the ceiling in your car play drums on the steering wheel while driving a hundred miles an hour down the freeway or down a Country Road with a lit joint in your hand. Hank Williams meets Pink Floyd? maybe David Bowie ish?
No real genre totally innovative and refreshing. Hard Rock guitars with sexy synthesizing. can't put my finger on it. I Just love it!!
Upon further thought not Hank Williams.
It's more like Waylon>Pink Floyd> David Bowie>Pearl Jam and probably some others but he's unique unto himself.
this music accelerates like Pearl Jam's early music did. The song writing rhythms and riffs are badass, intertwined with vulnerabilities similar to Eddie V.
All Said and Done reminds me a little bit of Black. The guitar solo in this one sounds like something Mike McCready would do.https://youtu.be/-nrGmG4MN0k
Sound & Fury https://g.co/kgs/E2t7Pf
Make Art Not Friendshttps://youtu.be/U0-mjAB_Mig
Maybe I'm a little off topic with rock album of the year. But I didn't want to start a new thread.
Very clever lyrics, and a killer album cover to boot.
Fastest Horse In Town is about getting rich off the backs of broken down horses, literally and figuratively.. fantastic!! extraordinary!!https://youtu.be/qBYct1Ed_Eo

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
I feel other albums that I enjoyed upon their release but no longer listen to (eg, Soundgarden's King Animal; U2's Songs of Innocence/Experience; Lightning Bolt) were more about my love for the particular band at an earlier time and not so much about the quality of the release itself. I think Radiohead's album stands up quite well compared to their earlier work (although I don't know if I'd say the same about The King of Limbs).
That Sturgell Simpson album (Sound & Fury) is pretty solid, I must admit.Post edited by rummy on0 -

I will definitely revisit the Live at Austin City Limits performance. Thanks for the recommendation.0 -
A sailor's guide to Earth is another Masterpiece cover to cover.
This guy has some of the most clever songwriting I've ever heard.
So at some point he got kicked out of the Navy. So he says "Flying high beats dying for lies in a politician's war"
Wow

Not rock, but Tyler Childers is really coming into his own. In the midst of all that Sturgill Simpson is doing, he is also helping other really great lesser-known artists get some exposure and a leg up.
Sturgill Simpson produced Tyler Childers last two albums. Sturgill Simpson had Cody Jinks open for him on a tour, now Cody Jinks is cruising outstanding!!
https://codyjinks.com/
Cody Jinks just released two albums in October. That must've been his October surprise. Word of the second album only came out a few weeks before the one album we were expecting. Hell of a great surprise, Both are insanely good!!
This is some top shelf bourbon sipping music.
This is reall country not corporate driven CMA Country. CMA Country is garbage.
This dude is real country. A Storyteller that pours his heart and soul into every note and every lyric. The stories he tells are so clear in your mind as you listen. These 2 albums of his are in the top 10 for me. Sturgill has the other 4 in my mind.
Cody Jinks has the other 4 in my mind.
These three artists are going to keep me happy for a long time.
And right now Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers are teaming up for a big arena tour called Good-Looking Tour and they're starting to sell out. This despite not having any major record labels no radio play and no MTV. The extraordinary thing is its mostly word of mouth and they both have pretty much exploded!

https://tylerchildersmusic.com/
Along with the other artists mentioned in this thread that I will explore, here are 3 outstanding artists for some of you to stew on during these coming winter months.
I'm grateful to have snagged a ticket to the April 10th Madison Show!!
Tyler Childers, Purgatory and Country Squire are both masterpieces cover to cover.
He doesn't tell you how the story might have gone Through the Grapevine, he tells you like it is and exactly how it was and what happened. That's the brilliance of Tyler Childers!! Explore and enjoy.
*So here is my list of10 best albums of the decade, in order by artist not by favorite.
Sturgill Simpson
1. High Top Mountain
2. Metamodern Sounds In County Music
3. A Sailor's Guide To Earth
4. Sound and Fury
Tyler Childers
5. Purgatory
6. Country Squire
Cody Jinks
7. Adobe Sessions
8. Lifers
9. After the Fire
10. The Wanting
Musical Bliss!!
Cheers y'all !!

While we're working on the list, I think I'll just keep dropping songs that I think you might like.
Here is one more,,
Sturgill and Tyler a few years ago.https://youtu.be/8vG3olnA8Tw
Sturgill just playing guitar on this one but this tune reminds me of the Grateful Dead big time!!Post edited by RYME on0 -

I wasn't going to keep going with this tonight, I should let someone else talk.
But now I've had like a quadruple shot of Maker's Mark while listening to Sturgill, giving me liquid courage to lay down a few more.
Check out the diversity in this guy, will start with this one.
The Dead Don't Diehttps://youtu.be/xiukuoSjDj0
All Said & Done, This song reminds me of
Black, and the guitar solo sounds like something Mike McCready would dohttps://youtu.be/-nrGmG4MN0k
Fastest Horse In Town!!
This song reminds me of Red Mosquito.
Listen to them side-by-side I think it's that buzzing slide guitar I think. ( I'm not a musician myself just a music connoisseur, so if I have the wrong terminology I beg your pardon)https://youtu.be/H9hjhPx-ydw
Fascinating lyrics this guy writes.
I think it's about getting rich off the backs of broken down horses literally and figuratively, (like Kentucky Derby horses, if more people knew what goes on behind the scenes at horse races it would turn everybody's stomachs, & everyday people busting their ass and not really getting ahead.
This is one hell of a album closer!! And now I'll give it a rest. Enjoy
I also want to thank Pearl Jam for setting the bar really high for me, it's like the standard by which I analyze music.
Fastest horse in town here we go!https://youtu.be/qBYct1Ed_Eo
