It’s a brilliant album and may be my favorite as well. I need to think this over a bit more before I compile my list.
I'm grateful for this thread. I'm going to check out some of the albums you've all mentioned over the next month ... sort of a December resolution.
Me too, Great thread! Not rock, but Tyler Childers is really coming into his own. In the midst of all that Sturgill Simpson is doing, he is also helping other really great lesser-known artists get some exposure and a leg up. Sturgill Simpson produced Tyler Childers last two albums. Sturgill Simpson had Cody Jinks open for him on a tour, now Cody Jinks is cruising outstanding!! https://codyjinks.com/ Cody Jinks just released two albums in October. That must've been his October surprise. Word of the second album only came out a few weeks before the one album we were expecting. Hell of a great surprise, Both are insanely good!! This is some top shelf bourbon sipping music. This is reall country not corporate driven CMA Country. CMA Country is garbage. This dude is real country. A Storyteller that pours his heart and soul into every note and every lyric. The stories he tells are so clear in your mind as you listen. These 2 albums of his are in the top 10 for me. Sturgill has the other 4 in my mind. Cody Jinks has the other 4 in my mind. These three artists are going to keep me happy for a long time. And right now Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers are teaming up for a big arena tour called Good-Looking Tour and they're starting to sell out. This despite not having any major record labels no radio play and no MTV. The extraordinary thing is its mostly word of mouth and they both have pretty much exploded! https://www.sturgillsimpson.com/tour
https://tylerchildersmusic.com/ Along with the other artists mentioned in this thread that I will explore, here are 3 outstanding artists for some of you to stew on during these coming winter months.
I'm grateful to have snagged a ticket to the April 10th Madison Show!! Tyler Childers, Purgatory and Country Squire are both masterpieces cover to cover. While we're working on the list, I think I'll just keep dropping songs that I think you might like. Here is one more,, Sturgill and Tyler a few years ago. https://youtu.be/8vG3olnA8Tw Sturgill just playing guitar on this one but this tune reminds me of the Grateful Dead big time!!
You + Me is a great album. Just got told about it. Real cool.
Yeah, my wife loves Pink, so I knew about it as soon as it was announced. I love City and Colour, so it was a great match. Pink should do more with Dallas Green as they compliment each other beautifully
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

The only hip hop I listen to these days. I just caught the Hoods on tour here last month. Those dudes sell out Rod Laver and I got to see them in a 600 capacity club!

Awesome. I just thought an American would dislike the Aussie accents in hip hop. I don't listen to them, I know only a few songs and like them. Just haven't really gotten the motivation to listen to any Aussie hip hop. I'm more of a rock guy. At least it's not all gangsta bling bling right?

Exactly. It's why I can't listen to American hip-hop anymore. Nothing but poppin bottles, flaunting cash, fur coats, exotic cars, and naked chicks. Not that there's anything wrong with naked chicks, but when they're just there to be eye candy it doesn't add any substance to the music. The Aussies are closer to what hip hop was in the 80's here. Rapping about personal issues, struggles, family life, where they grew up, or just having good times. There's actual content in the lyrics, not just bragging about how rich you are.

You should listen to Kendrick Lamar, J-Cole, Mack Miller, and a few of the other artists from the 08/09 breakout. They are what you are looking for.
Modern guys like Kodak Black and Meek are in the same category.
Not going to rank them, but I truly love all of these albums. My favorite at the moment is at the top (Lucero), but it'll probably change next week. Lots of great music out there!
