    I disagree with this.  So - if I help out an older relative who is racist by buying them groceries or something I'm racist?  I really hate how people try to draw a line and make something Yes/No or Black/White (no pun intended) when there is a lot of gray.

    I, for one, will not associate with anyone, family or otherwise, who is a known racist or anti-semite.
    No place for fear, hate, or ignorance in my life.
    Sadly, I feel that people have a tendency to be around like-minded people. If you have an opportunity to associate with a known racist or anti-semite, and don't take that opportunity to try to inform someone better, then you're letting them walk away safely with their racism and anti-semitism. That's not acceptable to me.

    I've been in an Uber where the driver went on a rant about media concentration and how seven Jews in the basement run it all, and I proceeded to explain how and why that's offensive and what the harm has been, as well as the likely origin story of how Jews started handling wealth professionally (point one: regularly oppressed people cling to what they have and consider security paramount; point two: in the days of sects like calvinism where wealth handling was dirty, someone had to do it - and Jews weren't morally opposed). 

    I've also been travelling with people who refused to step into a mosque to see its beauty, and have shamed them into entering when I pointed out there's no justification for their opposition (which was derived from racism). 

    Letting a racist remain racist, to me, is far more dangerous than putting in an effort (no matter the odds) to change or at least inform a person. There was a great interview with an ex-KKK member on a podcast (can't remember which), who had started an organization to introduce KKK members to black people. He said that close to 100% of KKK members he convinces to sit down and with him and a black person, shortly thereafter leave the KKK. His point was that exposure to the truth that racist concepts only exist in a person's head (and that there really aren't many, if any, racist realities that your standard WMA has to experience), is usually enough to sway a mind or start a journey of information leading to being reformed in some way.

    if I chose not to associate with anyone, family or otherwise, who is a known racist/bigot/etc or whatever, that would cut out half my immediate family. I choose to try to promote tolerance to them when it comes up, and love them unconditionally when it doesn't.
