Check Southwest, use the low fare calendar on their website. Not sure when you are going, but looks like you can do BWI to MSP for less than $200 round trip most dates in November for example, and no added fees with Southwest.HesCalledDyer said:

They seem to have the best deal. Just a quick 2 day trip for a show and I've flown with them before so I know what to expect.Poncier said:

We’ve flown Spirit a few times. Like others have said, it’s not god awful if the flight is direct and under 2.5 hours. Anything longer than that it feels very cramped.I LOVE MUSIC.

A pilot I know who flies for WestJet told me that only the shittiest pilots with less training and dodgy employment records work for these super discount airlines because they are the only pilots desperate enough to work for them. Another good reason to not fly with these kinds of companies!

I agree the open seating can be tricky but if you check-in online right when you are allowed to, you usually get a good boarding position which translates into better seats.Poncier said:

Only issue with Southwest is the open seating thing which is only an issue when flying with the wife and kid and making sure you get 3 seats together. But other than that they are the way to go. And still not charging for checked bags (up to 2 per person).0 -

Can't you also pay a piddly amount, like $10, to automatically get in the first boarding group?my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -
Its more than 10 bucks, its between 30 and 50 depending on the flight, but yeas you can upgrade into the first group for a small fee.oftenreading said:JOEJOEJOE said:

Usually have no problem, make sure to check in as soon as possible (24 hours before flight) and get either late in the A group or early in the B group.
Had one problem once when we got to gate when they were almost done boarding because the numbskulls at the check in lines were trying to rebook folks whose flight to Chicago got cancelled and everyone in line stood motionless for an hour before someone spoke up and they set the Chicago passengers aside and went back to regular business. My kid was still pretty young (9 or 10) and there were only scattered single seats left, but a gentleman moved so my wife & son could sit together and I sat separately which was fine,

Anybody use frontier before? I see some pretty low fares out of Trenton but am hesitant to use them.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

Frontier is not bad for direct
Flew them from Trenton to Cincy for PJ show and they were fine. For sure it is low rent, but normal seats and cheap as can be.
Trenton airport is a joke, is funny to fly from there. The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -
We flew round trip Frontier from Akron/Canton Airport -> Reagan Nat'l. Direct flights. We had no problem.2014: Cincinnati

I had no problem flying with spirit . Of course this was 6 or 5 years ago. I don't know how they carry themselves today0

Funny, I was sitting at the San Diego airport today waiting for our Alaska Airlines flight, and watched a Spirit plane take off and turned to my wife and commented on how shitty Spirit is; cramped seats, crazy fees for everything and no guarantees on your flight. Alaska on the other hand, is my new favorite; great seat room, built in screens on most flights or free WiFi on your devices to connect to their infotainment service which gets you hundreds of new and retro TV and movies. Flight was scheduled for 4 hours, but with the tail wind they got us there in 2:45!It's a hopeless situation...0

Oh, and you still can bring a carry on without extra fees. Seems to be getting more rare these days.tbergs said:Funny, I was sitting at the San Diego airport today waiting for our Alaska Airlines flight, and watched a Spirit plane take off and turned to my wife and commented on how shitty Spirit is; cramped seats, crazy fees for everything and no guarantees on your flight. I've never flown them, but I booked a cheap flight for my wife a few years back to Denver. Seemed to be a pretty decent option. No issues.mcgruff10 said:Anybody use frontier before? I see some pretty low fares out of Trenton but am hesitant to use them. It's a hopeless situation...0 -
I'll just start by saying I've traveled with them several times and I would not reccomend them to my worst enemy. They just about charge for everything including chips and a drink.
However, if you have a nonstop flight, if you don't have to be somewhere by a certain time and have NO luggage, maybe a backpack then you may catch a deal with this airline.
Anything comparable or convenient fly with them, please.

Now I'm flying with them this Friday morning to Philly from FL for a UPENN game that night. Everything better go as planned for this early morning flight.

Looks like BWI to MSP is just under 3 hrs and the flight back is just over 2. But I really don't want to take my chances with a series of delays, only being a 2 night stay with the show on the first night.Southwest you can pay an extra $20 each way to get in the first boarding group (it used to be $12.50 each way). I'm not super picky about my seat, but prefer close to the wing and not on the window. They also allow a carry-on & two checked bags for free. I plan on bringing some beer back, so a checked bag for free is pretty awesome.SWA is around $215 round trip with the early boarding, $175 without. Spirit was right around $175 once all their fees were added in. No-brainer here. Thanks for the horror stories, think I'll avoid a Halloween massacre! Now I'm wondering whether I should rent a car or just Uber around the city? Car rental is around $225-250. I can't imagine racking up that much in Uber fares in 2 nights/better part of 3 days. Then again, I don't know because my podunk town only has like 3 Ubers and I'm usually not in a case where I'd need to take one.Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250

Since we are talking about airlines:
I am a big world war 2 guy and have always wanted to fly on one of these....until now:At least 7 killed after historic B-17 bomber crashes, bursts into flames with 13 aboard
https://www.nj.com/news/2019/10/at-least-7-killed-after-historic-b-17-bomber-crashes-bursts-into-flames-with-13-aboard.htmlA World War II-era plane with 13 people aboard crashed and burned at the Hartford airport after encountering mechanical trouble on takeoff Wednesday, killing seven of them.
The four-engine, propeller-driven B-17 bomber struggled to get into the air and slammed into a maintenance building at Bradley International Airport as the pilots circled back for a landing, officials and witnesses said.
It had 10 passengers and three crew members, authorities said.
The retired, civilian-registered plane was associated with the Collings Foundation, an educational group that brought its Wings of Freedom vintage aircraft display to the airport this week, officials said. The Wings of Freedom tour recently made several stops at New Jersey airports in August and September including flyovers of Jersey Shore beaches during Labor Day weekend. The tour was scheduled to return to New Jersey next week with a visit to Morristown Municipal Airport.
Connecticut Public Safety Commissioner James Rovella said hours after the crash that some of those on board were burned, and “the victims are very difficult to identify.”
Some of the survivors of the crash were critically injured, authorities said. One person on the ground was also hurt in the crash and a firefighter involved in the response suffered a minor injury. No children were on the plane.
The death toll of seven could rise, Rovella said. He said some lives were likely saved by the efforts of people including a person who raced to help the victims and people on the plane who helped others to escape the fire by opening a hatch, Rovella said.
“You’re going to hear about some heroic efforts from some of the individuals that were in and around that plane,” he said.
The vintage bomber _ also known as a Flying Fortress, one of the most celebrated Allied planes of World War II _ was used to take history buffs and aircraft enthusiasts on short flights, during which they could get up and walk around the loud and windy interior.
“Right now my heart really goes out to the families who are waiting,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “And we are going to give them the best information we can as soon as we can in an honest way.”

— NTSB_Newsroom (@NTSB_Newsroom)October 2, 2019The National Transportation Safety Board sent a team of 10 to investigate the cause of the crash.
The plane was a few minutes into the flight when the pilots reported a problem and said it was not gaining altitude, officials said. It lost control upon touching down and struck a shed at a de-icing facility just before 10 a.m.
The airport _ New England’s second-busiest _ was closed afterward but reopened a single runway about 3½ hours later.
Flight records from FlightAware shows the plane had traveled about 8 miles (13 kilometers) and reached an altitude of 800 feet (244 meters).
In recordings of audio transmissions, the pilot told an air traffic controller that he needed to return to the airport and land immediately. Asked why, he said: “Number four engine, we’d like to return and blow it out.”
Brian Hamer, of Norton, Massachusetts, said he was less than a mile away when he saw a B-17, “which you don’t normally see,” fly directly overhead, apparently trying without success to gain altitude.
One of the engines began to sputter, and smoke came out the back, Hamer said. The plane made a wide turn and headed back toward the airport, he said.
“Then we heard all the rumbling and the thunder, and all the smoke comes up, and we kind of figured it wasn’t good,” Hamer said.
Antonio Arreguin, who had parked at a construction site near the airport, said he did not see the plane but heard the explosion and could feel the heat from “this big ball of orange fire” about 250 yards (229 meters) away.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0
