Just watched a video of a 15 year old getting arrested in Florida on a felony charge for threatening a mass shooting on a video game platform.
I felt pretty bad for him and his mother, and so did the cops, but they (and I myself) also felt that these sorts of threats need to be taken seriously.  He made a grave mistake and he will pay dearly for it, and that sucks, but it's life.
That's the world we live in.
Only people who should feel sorry are his parents - sorry for themselves -  for not raising their kid to know better.  They should also face some kind of punishment as the kid is their responsibility.  At this point, if you make a threat like that and don't think there will be consequences, you deserve every consequence thrown at you.
    Agree, and disagree.
Can you imagine being held responsible for everything you said at 15?
Granted, I never said anything like that, but if words reach criminal level...yeah I said some stuff about sex and more minor forms of violence of which I am ashamed.

I am with you on this.

What 15 year old boy ever thought through the implications of .... anything at all?

This needs to be taken seriously, and maybe there is a major issue here, but maybe the only issue is the stupidity of the teenage brain, with technology allowing capability to outstrip judgement.
Weekend in juvi with record expunged at 18. There should be consequences but to send a stern message that this is no joke.
So, does he get his guns back? At age 18? Be banned from owning or possessing? Regardless, we all know a “responsible” gun owner will sell if he’s in the market.
Off the top of my head I would say make him wait until 25, at least as a token effort.

His mother had at least one gun in the house, though the officers didn't seem to know that until after they had already come to make the arrest.

maybe it just me but my parents never had to teach me when i was 15 years old not to threatened a mass shooting.  I just knew.  to punish the parents i don''t think is fair.

I may very well be confused, what with all the news reports of threatened mass shootings and subsequent photos of arsenals.

He mentioned his fathers gun.  “I Dalton Barnhart vow to bring my fathers m15 to school and kill 7 people at a minimum.”

    Yes, it is quite confusing-
At least 27 people have been arrested over threats to commit mass attacks since the El Paso and Dayton shootings

Alarming. And these are just the known threats.

Did anyone here read that Cosmopolitan article about the woman who goes on the Internet and catches these people? It was an excellent profile.

If I can find it, I'll post it.

    Edit: Here it is (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/politics/a28483247/is-it-possible-to-stop-a-mass-shooting-before-it-happens/).

Make all gun owners prove they are "responsible" so they can continue their participation in a "well regulated militia" and military style weapons should be outright banned.

Fixing this really is not rocket science but we are here because one side has its head in the sand about what the constitution says about gun rights and is willing to let corporate interests hug them closely from behind.

agreed. my parents raised me just fine. in my teen years I was a complete and utter law-breaking fuck up. my two siblings were top of their classes and gems of the school. that's on me, not them.

So, I understand that Trump is talking again about using an EO to countermand the 14th Amendment.

I thought the constitution was inviolable? Maybe just some parts.

Yup, just your normal, everyday “responsible” gun owner, getting pissed off at something or someone. Nothing can be done.

HE would be challenging what many/most scholars see as the clear text of the Constitution.  So he could try to EO it, but there would be an immediate law suit and stay, and it would have to go to the SCOTUS.  If the court is dominated by "Constructionists", as they claim, then it should be quite clear that the EO would be unconstitutional.

Spoken like someone who is not a parent.
agreed. my parents raised me just fine. in my teen years I was a complete and utter law-breaking fuck up. my two siblings were top of their classes and gems of the school. that's on me, not them.
Yup, you can only do so much.

The Noblesville shooter obtained his ammo and weapons from his parents gun safe.  Kids find a way to get a key or the parents become lax and leave it unlocked.

Sure, but not really the point. I wonder how many of his supporters who regularly point to the constitution in support of their gun rights would actually object to him attempting this. That would be quite a bind for them - the sanctity of the constitution warring with their aversion to immigrants.

Not a bind for them at all.  They voted for tRump after all.  Deficits are great, being mocked by the world is great, brown people are bad, etc.

I wouldn't put it past the idiocy of trump and his supporters to claim that 2A is more important because it is, in fact, #2, and #14 is less important because of its "rank".

    wait for it.

then he'll claim free speech is his favorite amendment, because "who doesn't love #1? #1 is the best, like President Trump!".

Yeah I wouldn't assume intellectual consistency in the mind of the MAGA.

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times.

    Fuck Florida.

This isn't justice.  One man, a dad with a family, is dead.  And there are still thousands of c&c pillbillies running around just waiting for their opportunity to kill another one of 'them people'.

Elementary school cheerleaders asked to sell raffle tickets – with a semiautomatic weapon as the prize

Two Ohio mothers separately raised concerns about something their kids were asked to do by a youth football league: sell tickets to raffle off an AM15 rifle.

Sari Brittain says her 4-year-old daughter, a new New Richmond Junior Lions Football league cheerleader, was asked to participate in the team's fundraising event by selling 10 raffle tickets. The prize was a semiautomatic rifle, CBS affiliate WKRC reports.

Brittain was shocked that such a weapon would be part of a youth fundraiser. She was concerned about her daughter asking adults if they wanted a chance to win a gun.
