    Law enforcement finally cracking down?
Concerned citizens fed up and taking heed?

Just watched a video of a 15 year old getting arrested in Florida on a felony charge for threatening a mass shooting on a video game platform.
I felt pretty bad for him and his mother, and so did the cops, but they (and I myself) also felt that these sorts of threats need to be taken seriously.  He made a grave mistake and he will pay dearly for it, and that sucks, but it's life.

Only people who should feel sorry are his parents - sorry for themselves -  for not raising their kid to know better.  They should also face some kind of punishment as the kid is their responsibility.  At this point, if you make a threat like that and don't think there will be consequences, you deserve every consequence thrown at you.

    Agree, and disagree.
Can you imagine being held responsible for everything you said at 15?
Granted, I never said anything like that, but if words reach criminal level...yeah I said some stuff about sex and more minor forms of violence of which I am ashamed.

I am with you on this.

What 15 year old boy ever thought through the implications of .... anything at all?

This needs to be taken seriously, and maybe there is a major issue here, but maybe the only issue is the stupidity of the teenage brain, with technology allowing capability to outstrip judgement.

Weekend in juvi with record expunged at 18. There should be consequences but to send a stern message that this is no joke.

Assuming it is just teenaged stupidity, a qualified yes. Don’t discount the potential harms that getting an otherwise reasonable kid involved in the juvenile justice system can do. Meeting kids who already engage in violent and destructive behaviour and who welcome you into their peer group isn’t a good thing.

If it looks to be a situation with actual risk, then should be handled quite differently.

So, does he get his guns back? At age 18? Be banned from owning or possessing? Regardless, we all know a “responsible” gun owner will sell if he’s in the market.

Off the top of my head I would say make him wait until 25, at least as a token effort.

His mother had at least one gun in the house, though the officers didn't seem to know that until after they had already come to make the arrest.

I felt pretty bad for him and his mother, and so did the cops, but they (and I myself) also felt that these sorts of threats need to be taken seriously.  He made a grave mistake and he will pay dearly for it, and that sucks, but it's life.
That's the world we live in.
Only people who should feel sorry are his parents - sorry for themselves -  for not raising their kid to know better.  They should also face some kind of punishment as the kid is their responsibility.  At this point, if you make a threat like that and don't think there will be consequences, you deserve every consequence thrown at you.
maybe it just me but my parents never had to teach me when i was 15 years old not to threatened a mass shooting.  I just knew.  to punish the parents i don''t think is fair.

So, does he get his guns back? At age 18? Be banned from owning or possessing? Regardless, we all know a “responsible” gun owner will sell if he’s in the market.
This 15 year old had guns?
I may very well be confused, what with all the news reports of threatened mass shootings and subsequent photos of arsenals.

He mentioned his fathers gun.  “I Dalton Barnhart vow to bring my fathers m15 to school and kill 7 people at a minimum.”

    Yes, it is quite confusing-
At least 27 people have been arrested over threats to commit mass attacks since the El Paso and Dayton shootings

Alarming. And these are just the known threats.

Did anyone here read that Cosmopolitan article about the woman who goes on the Internet and catches these people? It was an excellent profile.

If I can find it, I'll post it.

    Edit: Here it is (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/politics/a28483247/is-it-possible-to-stop-a-mass-shooting-before-it-happens/).

You know kids are famous for not listening to their parents?

Make all gun owners prove they are "responsible" so they can continue their participation in a "well regulated militia" and military style weapons should be outright banned.

Fixing this really is not rocket science but we are here because one side has its head in the sand about what the constitution says about gun rights and is willing to let corporate interests hug them closely from behind.
