I believe 2020 will be a significant year in our nation’s history. It will mark the beginning of the end of systemic racism against our indigenous and other ethnic minorities. Canadians like to think we are better than our American friends but that is really the problem. Simply thinking there is no problem by comparing your society to another is lazy and creates a giant blind spot.
I was born here, grew up here and the problem exists. In small towns and big cities. In all facets of life. We all need to stand up for what is right. All humans deserve the same dignity and respect.
I have benefited my entire life from white male privilege, there is no doubt. This privilege should belong to EVERYONE. Once we are all judged equally no matter what our skin colour, gender, sexuality, ethnic background, religion, etc. we will indeed be a “free” country. Let’s keep divisive politics out of the way folks... If we all listen... we can all be heard.

You never really had to begin with.
Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.

Well said 1thoughtknown, well said. We can all do better by recognising our internal biases and taking steps to change ourselves for the better.
