God I hope so. I had hoped for better from Yang, but he got torched. Any reason to lop some of these people off the better.

Lots of opinion out there, here are three:

    Democratic consultant Peter Fenn:

“Wednesday’s debate seemed more enlightening than tonight’s. It was too bad that the third tier candidates interrupted, filibustered and took time from the serious candidates. Kamala Harris took a chance attacking Joe Biden and may have gone too far. She was grating with her failure to abide by the time limits. Her effort, though, may have gotten the most applause lines. Biden came across as experienced and competent and normal. His closing statement showed the clear contrast with Trump. Mayor Pete was solid and appealing, especially with his closing statement. And of course Bernie was Bernie, the most revolutionary candidate whose rhetoric still resonates.”

Monmouth University Polling Institute Director Patrick Murray:

“Like the first night, this debate did not focus on Democratic voters’ central question: who can beat Donald Trump. However, Kamala Harris came closest to answering that. She was at various times passionate, conversational, and policy-oriented. All candidates come into these debates with a plan. She executed her plan better than anyone. Joe Biden’s plan was to take as little time answering each question as possible. He mostly succeeded and only had some minor trip-ups. But he’s got a new threat in his rearview mirror now with Harris. Bernie Sanders was, well, Bernie Sanders. He played to his base, but I doubt he expanded it. Pete Buttigieg also performed solidly, but it was Harris’s night.”

    Democratic consultant Julie Roginsky:

“Kamala Harris dominated tonight’s debate and proved that she would be a formidable opponent on the debate stage against President Trump. Vice President Biden had poignant and strong moments when he spoke about healthcare and the death of his wife, daughter and son, though he also gave those who are concerned that his time has passed ample reason to double down on that sentiment. Senator Sanders played to his own audience but didn’t move the needle to co-opt others and Mayor Buttigieg continued to impress, though he surprisingly didn’t stick the landing in this debate on any one question.”

I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

From what I caught the winners were Harris, by a mile, and Buttigieg.

Loved Harris calling Biden out for segregation and busing. Like I said before, Joe was starting at the top of the mountain and all he can do is go down. I wouldn't say he faltered, but it helped put cracks in the seams.

Sanders lost, imo, he just came off as curmudgeonly and didn't do a good enough job planting a flag with socialist programs because he frankly looked afraid to say it. Oh, also, he still is terrible on getting a message across re: POC.

Wiliamson seems like a kook, but a lot of the things she said weren't exactly wrong. But get her out, Swalwell out, Hickenlooper flopped (out). Gillibrand came off as too desperate to keep grabbing the spotlight, but she didn't make terrible points. Nor did Mike Bennette, surprisingly, though, any chance to get rid of some people I'm all for since I wouldn't say he separated himself in any distinguishable way. Just keep Biden, Harris, Gillibrand, and Buttigieg from last night

Who cares about these schmoes, Steve Bullock is the best democratic candidate to take on Trump. Currently it seems the party is scratching to find someone that can compete. Bullock may not appeal to the far left but he’s going to appeal a lot more to the bulk of voters that aren’t looking for another extreme candidate.

On the topic of the time-limits. I thought about two things regarding that. One was Mayor Pete just going  with a full on "talk until they cut my mic" approach (which I can understand why they go with, and most do) but I actually noticed it and felt it was rude. He just jabbered on while someone else had the word.

Then on the other side of that spectrum you had biden who just stopped talking mid sentence and was like "oh... I'm outta time". Which came off as very courteous and almost insecure. I'm like ,Joe: you can finish your sentence at least! And in the end he also asked "So, I got 30 seconds?" ort something. Seemed to really take the "rules" seriously.

Didn't think about Harris going over her time (Which they all do, except for Biden) but she had a heck of a lot of... *googling the word* "poise". Or authority I guess, everytime she started talking.

And Gillibrand when she had the time to go in, she came off as very honest. Like in the debate about women's rights concerning health and how she and her female colleagues has had to fight for them with rooms full of men who have disregarded them. Strong stuff. She's good at monologuing. Comes off as 35% more honest doing it than Kamala "let me reach my rehearsed punchline" Harris.

Interesting opinions on the same activity.
I think the bolded part in the first quote shows what part of the issue was last time, and what continues to be the issue.
The press is telling people who the serious candidates are and who the dumbasses are.  Why?
Recall that last go around Hillary was anointed from Day 1 by the press.  Bern-Bern made a run through popular support.
Why isn't Kirsten Gillibrand given a serious look?  She seemed to present herself well (no stammering bs like the two old guys from The Muppets) and while I don't agree with some of her stances at least she seemed clear in those beliefs and articulated her thoughts well.
They are doing it again...they are deciding for the people.
I agree that having 10 or 20 people is too crowded...but there needs to be a way to learn about what everyone thinks and plans and to make that presentable to the masses w/o having a shouting contest and the press telling everyone what to think.  (Did Yang say more than 2 things all night?  What if he has great ideas?  Is the average person going to look him up and read about him and decide he might be their candidate?)

It took me half a year of Toastmasters to get to the point where I knew how to formulate and deliver an evidenced point within a fixed amount of time. If I can do it, they can too.

Also, love the nicknames, you should apply for the Trump campaign to help. He’s a big fan of foreign assistance for campaigns.

Correct. Didn't he him and haw? Not announce, then announce, then take it back, then announce again? He seems fine, but people need to remember this is a vote for the base of one party, it's not the General. They're not competing or talking to non-Dems at the moment, or at least they shouldn't be.

This will not be read because you are ignoring me, but,

I also think they should be able to respect their given time  (like Biden, I guess maybe coming from another era where they were more respected(?)) - but I also understand why they shit on them to get their voices heard. Because there doesn't seem to be much punishment for doing so.

The time they go over in the debate should be take away from their closing statement or something.

Don't know why you needed to drop in a dig in the last sentence. But "ok".

Sounds like a very, very, very, very homophobic thing to say.

Wish there was an ignore option on shitty homophobia on here.
I think @F Me In The Brain uses it so much that his autocorrect just defaults to buttplug.

Also, buttplugs are a bedroom staple of heterosexual relationships as well. Takes all kinds. The buttplug is not discriminatory, and you should not pigeonhole it.
The term "boy" is not discomanaroty in itself either. It takes a "term" and a "context"

And I think the term and the context is pretty damn clear in @F Me In The Brain post
I initially thought that for @Spiritual_Chaos to read it in such a way was in itself homophobic, but now I think that @Spiritual_Chaos might just have an unconscious bias when reading posts by @F Me In The Brain -- and that goes the other way, too. Y'all don't particularly like each other, and that can lead to misreading each others' posts and finding fault and controversy where there is none.

@F Me In The Brain says that he used the ignore function for @Spiritual_Chaos ; maybe it would be advisable for @Spiritual_Chaos to just ignore @F Me In The Brain for a while and see how it goes. Maybe a year or so from now one of you will see a post of the other's that's been quoted and chuckle to yourself or agree with a point he's making and see that y'all's beef is just silly. Or you'll both just remove unnecessary stress from your own lives, and go on your happy ways.

I wish you both the best.
What would be my problem with that user? I don't know anything about the person or who he/she is? Except for I guess, him/her liking "Backspacer".
For some fans, that's all it takes.

Seriously, though, that kind of proves my point. If you knew him, the thought would likely never cross your mind that he's homophobic. But you don't. All you know -- both of you -- is that you've been snippy with each other a few times on the internet, so that must mean you're online nemeses.

Anyway, this exchange has given me a good not-so-secret Santa idea for you both.

Anyway, this exchange has given me a good not-so-secret Santa idea for you both.
I'm going to send you a 2019 Yankees World Series pennant for Christmas.
Wow, that is one of the most hateful things I’ve read on here.  Let’s keep it civil folks, there’s no need for this Yankees World Series talk...
Please don’t report me to the mods!!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

I don't know anything about the person or who he/she is? Except for I guess, him/her liking "Backspacer".

Harris and Buttplug were the best options
