    edit--And it appears June of '79 was right when the bottom began to fall out from under Carter. That's when he gave the "Malaise Speech." Perhaps the numbers reflected in the graph didn't fully account for that or were taken prior?

    Still--54% is insane, especially for someone who inherited this economy.

    The cost of air travel is an easy target no matter who is president.  There is a budget for Air Force One.  It will cost taxpayers if the POTUS flies everyday to play golf the same as it will if the pilots set on the runway picking their nose for the entire year.

    Absolutely there are high fixed costs for maintaining an aircraft and staff, but there are also variable costs when one flies the thing. Aircraft aren’t cheap to operate, nor are the extra staff required whenever the POTUS moves around.
