Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

Tried to read "For Steam and Country", because I like steampunk, and it seemed like it would be fun, but the writing is just so clunky that I couldn't really get into it. I guess it's YA, but nothing in the description indicated that (also shouldn't be an excuse for poor writing).
Moved on to start "The Lives of Tao" about two warring factions of aliens who can only survive on Earth by inhabiting human hosts in a symbiotic relationship. It's funnier than I expected, and pretty good so far.

A bathroom and bedroom.
bathroom book (because they’re always crap and have two page chapters) should be anything by the zillion selling hack, james patterson. so many great books and any crap he writes becomes a best seller. If I had known then what I know now...

F Me In The Brain said:Almost finished with this one, also one I suggest. (If you are a True Crime fan)Just finished this one and it's excellent. Not only well written when so much true crime isn't, but the narrative is structured differently than a straight narrative--and it works. Also maddening in a way, now that a suspect has been arrested and there's so much that won't be known publicly until he stands trial.Currently reading this. I've read several of Guinn's books and his writing is always very engaging. Probably looks like I read a lot of grim stuff, lol, but my preference is for nonfiction. I'm always wondering why things happen.

which was excellent though I liked Dead Wake better.

I just read 5 of Jeff Shaara's war books. Two on the Civil War, two on WW2, and 1 on WW1.
Fascinating and morbid.
I've always been strangely drawn to the morbid, which is a bit weird because I'm not morose or introverted at all, I'm a happy go lucky extrovert.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -

"The Lives of Tao" was pretty good, though I thought the pacing was a little rushed towards the end. I'll probably move on to the rest of the series eventually, but I'm in no rush.Current reads:"The Calculating Stars" by Mary Robinette KowalAn alternate history of the space program. I'm only a few chapters in, but I'm enjoying it. I love that she let's you know right off the bat that it's an alternate history by starting the first chapter with a news clipping from 1952 that starts with the words, "President Dewey".and "Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci-Fi and Fantasy Culture" by Ytasha WomackAn interesting and enlightening read that has definitely added some music to my playlists and some books to my TBR pile."I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the [shows I've done].
