I'm almost done with the new Tiger Woods bio.  Uck.  You sort of feel sorry for him because his parents raised him to be a golf star, not a nice human being.  It's not a fun read, but it's interesting.

    fuck tiger.

you want to be depressed? yes? then I highly recommend this:

A beautiful used hardback copy of Itzkoff's biography of Williams came through the store last week and I thought about getting it for my own collection but was in a hurry and left it on the shelf.  Gone the next day, of course!  It looks great.

I'm finally (good grief, FINALLY!) getting around to this great book:

"It's a sad and beautiful world"

The King Tides - James Swain
Read on my tablet on the plane.  Fluff, but I enjoyed it.

I signed up for BookBub today.  Anyone use it?
Im not a big e-reader fan but this service will let you know when the books are free or dirt cheap if you want to get them on whichever e-reader you use.

I’ve read both the poetic and the prose Edda.  This is a fantastic retelling of the stories.

The ambassador and his daughter alone were very intriguing. I really liked this book but anything I've read by Larson has been fabulous!

Anyone the least bit interested in current world affairs should read this book.  It frames a country's foreign diplomacy motivations through the lens of geography.

I'm reading Michael McFaul's From Cold War to Hot Peace (and yes, I started it before Helsinki). It's very well-written, as I would expect. McFaul is wicked smart and is one of the top experts on Russia.

Working my way back to a book that inspired many of today's writers of mountaineering literature, Maurice Herzog's Annapurna.  This is a great story and a classic in it's field, though I have to admit to struggling a bit with Herzog's writing style, the difficulty compounded by reading an old hardback with small print and heavily tanned pages.  My poor old eyes- but I will get there!

Unless a bright light is shining directly on the pages and it is early in the day I cannot read books with print like that any longer.  It stinks.
As always, talk of this makes me think of Burgess Merideth's classic Twilight Zone episode.
