Nobody on this board knows anything about Ed's choices or ideas for the future. His absence at TOTD shows and the CC tribute mean very little in the grand scheme of things. If I had $100m in the bank I would be spending more time with my kids and family.  Especially if I lost a close friend under tragic circumstances.

I also would skip an evening in an arena with fans who didn't know my friend and would want me to have my grief and feelings on display as entertainment not to mention Miley Cyrus also be there.  That concert was fine and all, but I have no qualms for anyone skipping it.  Anyone who is bagging on anyone not being there is ridiculous.  No one has to grieve or perform their grief for you or your little get together.

A couple vaguely worded statements and we've deducted that EV doesn't want to be part of the band.  Oh man, this place never fails to disappoint on the doom & gloom factor.
It is painful to read isn't it.
The only logical solution is to replace him with Gary Cherone.

Yup. See my post in the tribute thread.  Made for TV dreck.

Let me just put something else here that follows what this guy is saying... During Toronto Night 2 a few years back now, the Toronto Raptors needed their court for a game during playoffs, on the same day Pearl Jam were supposed to play. PJ were playing two nights in a row, so night 2 got pushed back a day. After a song, Ed says the following... Well we were supposed to go home today, but I guess we are here. They better win.

If I have built a career, have enough money to live off, and am getting older, maybe my priorities have change a little. Maybe Ed just isn't into anymore and wants to surf, enjoy his family, not have any schedules. These are still just guys, who play and write music, and not have a regular day job. Just guys...

If anything I say get the side projects going, and when it happens it happens. If Lightning Bolt was the last record, I would fine with that. As long as they still tour.

Now for that part... Ed said during Fenway this year, that the next time they play will in the studio. I'm guessing that may mean no tour this year.

There is a lot of upside and downside to these quotes, and I think we shouldn’t get too carried away either way.

If we want to put our anger into anything, it can be the 10C’s total lack of communication with seemingly the band and definitely it’s members.

If we can focus on solving those problems first, fulfilled excitement will be on the way before we know it.

I saw the first ever VH gig with Gary Cherone and it was awesome! Loved it. I like a couple of tunes from VH3 just between us-One I Want kicks arse.

I find it interesting (and thankful) that it's Jeff and Stone pushing to get into the studio.   I've had a feeling that those two were the uninterested two when it came to PJ.   I think Ed is at a point in his family life that it's more about his kids than anything else which is completely natural and he should be.   Really the only thing that bugs me about this article is that Can't Deny Me was the star tack out of everything they have done so far.....

I wouldn't think too much of the star track comment.  Practically every artist says those generic kinda things about everything they release.

“Can’t Deny Me,” as a standalone single to coincide with their tour. “Yeah, that was fun,” Gossard says. “I’m glad we got to do that. That was a little bit of a star from one of the ones that we had recorded, so we’re hoping to get some more of that going.”

If this is true, maybe we don't want a new album  :o

Am I reading this right? Does it really mean that was basically the best track coming out from the ones already recorded? Well.. I don't know what to think about it. Or maybe yes, I know, but wouldn't be safe for this forum. Man...
That’s how I read it. Can’t Deny Me is the best track
I read it as it had the most single-pop, as in being a track they could release to the radio etc out of the bunch.

So it was a "star" in that context. An All or None, Parting Ways or Present Tense might be in the bunch, but it wouldn't be a star. And I bet Stone didn't see them as being songs to release by themselves at the time either.

And, they released songs like The Fixer and Who You Are which must have been seen as "stars" back then. And in the same bunch were Force of Nature, Unthought Known, Sometimes etc.

I'd assume those kids would go to school...leaving a solid 8 hours a day to record ;)

They haven't released an album in 5+ years, and everyone is treating Jeff and Stone like heroes because they wanted to get in the studio in late 2018, early 2019.

2 active threads on the elusive (but apparently forthcoming! lol) album have been closed this morning. Hopefully one can stay open where it can be discussed.
I'm betting Jeff and Stone have been wanting to record for a while. Not just late 2018 as you claim. Jeff ended up putting out a solo record. He does that when he accumulates a lot of ideas and demos and songs that aren't accepted by the PJ team. So Jeff was clearly writing and getting ideas out there, only to have them rejected, I guess. So I wouldn't belittle Jeff's efforts or statements about wanting to record. I know for me it is obvious who the bottleneck is in the band.
