No it's not. An advertisement serves notice of a product or service. This is a short propaganda film. And that's not a bad thing. "Propaganda" usually has a negative connotation but it really means to promote a particular point of view. That's what this video does. It doesn't advertise anything.
ads also serve another purpose: building your brand. which is exactly what this does.
The video has 852K dislikes vs. 438K likes on YouTube. I don't know how well that's going to build Gillette's brand.
which is another way of saying, on a secondary advertising platform 1.3 million eyeballs have seen it. and its under discussion.
Well no, over 20 million people have seen it on YouTube (over 40 million eyeballs). Only a small fraction of those who watched bothered to like or dislike. So it might just tell us that only those with particularly strong emotions about it bother rating it, and that when a specifically strong reaction occurs, it is more likely to be a negative one. Knee jerks reactions from assholes, probably, lol.

I have not been to a Nascar race in years, NASCAR race day is a fun day.  And unlike most other sports/concerts/entertainment. NASCAR was not out to nickel and dime you, I used to go to MIS, free parking, bring in your own booze and food and you can leave to go restock as often as you want, the 50 dollar ticket was a good deal in the entertainment world as any.

  • I've watched three laps of NASCAR in my life. I was in 11th grade and was picking up my girlfriend who was finishing up watching the Daytona 500 with her family. So I watched along waiting for it to end.

    The first lap was boring.
    The second lap was boring.
On the third lap, Dale Earnhardt died.

Can you imagine that? Never ever watched the sport in my life and when I finally do, one of it's most legendary competitors dies. That's like tuning into your first NBA game and Michael Jordan dies during it. Her family was understandably shell-shocked by this as he was their favorite driver.

Last time I went I could.  Love going to NASCAR.  They really know how to treat their fans well.  Do not follow as much since Gordon retired. I do like Gordon as a broadcaster.

More to my point then. Think how much that would have cost to air via ad buys? Now they that have that exposure and you can be sure it was shown on various newscasts for even more exposure. FREE.

They made an excellent point/challenge (and long over due) and got that amount of exposure.

Well what have we here? Hmmm....seems like you have a personal vendetta against me to (attempt to) make a joke at my expense like this one. Were you offended when poked fun at how lame your attempts at comedy were with "Troy Acheman" and "Tony Blowmo" in the NFL thread? Or that I think that only a simpleton would think "Team Trump Treason" is something clever to type over and over and over and over again? Did I hurt your feelings, Halifax? Sorry buddy. I know how sensitive your type can be.

Interesting. I didn't think of that. Figured he was being combative because he and I have had a few back-and-forths in the past (usually in a respectful way though).

Well anyway, as for THAT girl, if my memory serves me correctly, we broke up in the summer of that year. And no, the father and family didn't look at me as a grim reaper lol. In fact, to suck up a bit, I faked interest in the race before the accident. I was legitimately sad to see Dale die like that though.

All good... we all do that when we're used to keyboard combat.  I remember the day too.  It was on in the background..  I didn't particularly like any racer although I kind of rooted for Gordon because all of the rednecks hated him.  He seemed like a pretty boy northerner.

In fact, to suck up a bit, I faked interest in the race before the accident. I was legitimately sad to see Dale die like that though.
I was asking out of whether her parents thought of you as bad luck and demanding she break it off. I wasn’t asking out of combativeness, ridicule or anything related to malice. Sorry you took it that way. Some parents are cray cray.

Can you imagine that? Never ever watched the sport in my life and when I finally do, one of it's most legendary competitors dies. That's like tuning into your first NBA game and Michael Jordan dies during it. Her family was understandably shell-shocked by this as he was their favorite driver.
    Was that your last date?
Well what have we here? Hmmm....seems like you have a personal vendetta against me to (attempt to) make a joke at my expense like this one. Were you offended when poked fun at how lame your attempts at comedy were with "Troy Acheman" and "Tony Blowmo" in the NFL thread? Or that I think that only a simpleton would think "Team Trump Treason" is something clever to type over and over and over and over again? Did I hurt your feelings, Halifax? Sorry buddy. I know how sensitive your type can be.
I was going to ask the same, because the dad might throw you out as being bad luck, the grim reaper.  I didn't take his comment negatively, fwiw.
Oh come on, dude. When you ask if someone's last date was 18 years ago, you're trying to insult them. Halifax just isn't all that witty.
I didn’t mean “last date in 18 years.” I meant last date with her. Guess I should have qualified that. Sorry.

I knew it couldn't just be over with my apology.

Again, I interpreted your "Was that your last date?" question as an insult. So I thought to myself, "Why would he be insulting me?" and all I could come up with was me making fun of your Troy Acheman thing over in the NFL thread. So I thought, "Well, I guess one insult deserves another." Then mrussel1 suggested that's not what you meant....and you confirmed it. So I felt bad for insulting you and apologized.

No, no problem at all. I'm just trying to get past this with Halifax because I do feel bad for insulting him when he wasn't insulting me like I thought he was. So when I saw a new response I figured it was him and was curious to see what he was going to say, but it was you.

I think I might have been taken aback by his use of the word "date" in his first post. A typical night for her and I back then was to cruise around, smoke weed, and listen to like Led Zeppelin or something. I suppose you can call that a "date" but I didn't look at it like that and was like "Hey what's the deal here? Is this guy suggesting I've had a date in decades?" lol.
