I wouldn't give up my number for anything really.

Yeah no way I'm not keeping my membership as long as tickets are a part of it.  I have a nice long time (October) to think about Analog or digital.  Probably wait and see how people like the shirt (see real pictures) and decide if it's worth $20.  The digital downloads are almost worthless to me.  I but physical copies of my shows and already have about 4-5 codes I haven't used.

  • wow PJ have not played vegas in over 12 years. that sucks. for real.
i need a reason to get back to vegas in 2019 so i am hoping they add vegas to the 2019 tour
certainly they need to hit the west coast and all the other hippie friendly states  ;)

I keep seeing "clarification of membership levels" as one of the hopes/prospects for this newsletter. I have a good hunch the only thing will be a mention that the single is discontinued. There is nothing else.  Analog is everything it was before just now without the single.  Nothing is going to replace it. Everything else about digital and analog levels stays the same.
They've already clarified it right on the website.  https://help.pearljam.com/hc/en-us/articles/205285910-Membership-Levels shows the differences now.  The only thing that changed is they aren't producing an annual single.  Analog gets the shirt (or as they call it limited edition membership item coupon code), a Bootleg coupon and printed copy of the Deep magazine.
Huh. Well then... everyone loves paying the same amount and getting less, right? ;) I guess they figure inflation takes care of this. And I guess we have to admit it does... considering their shipping costs. If they aren't replacing the single with anything, I'm actually inclined to think they really are doing this because they were losing money on the analog memberships, or just breaking even maybe.
I would be shocked if they didn't turn a good profit on that $40, and if not, someone needs to lose their jobs. You can get shirts mass produced at that quality for really a few bucks. The retail price of 45's are $10 so it has to cost them much less to produce that. I'm assuming it doesn't cost them anything to give out the digital code. And if they spend more than a few bucks on shipping for any of that then they are doing it wrong.
Half of that extra $20 for analog should be straight profit. If they aren't netting $25-30 off my $40 fee, then someone over there has no clue how to handle money.
Up until the early 2000s there was only "analog" and it was only $10. Now you didn't get a shirt or the code, but we got everything else for $10. I can't see how charging $40 and throwing in a low quality shirt isn't making a lot of money.

When I first joined in 2003:

$15 per year and it got you:
    The record
    Two newsletters per year
    Ticket access
...the only "shop" was mail-order via the newsletters.

I can't remember what else. The forums and the Rumor Pit emails were not part of the fee.
Got all that for $5.00 when I joined.
i hope so. you were in the damn band.

Why have a contest about a vault when a large percentage of the fans who wanted it have bought it...

That is like when my dad gave me the Eddie Vedder - Into the Wild cd album for my birthday. Like dad, you don't think I have this already?
Yeah, that's so funny, but I give your dad points for trying at least. 😁
My dad is such a dick that he would have seen that I liked the album/CD and the next time I visited him on the (about) "every other weekend" he would have purchased it for himself....hold on...what is that?  I have to go...my therapist is on line 2

I honestly think they could stand to tap into some outside ideas just to generate a bit of new momentum on the club benefits and new angles on things.  Sometimes you are too close to the sun.

I am fortunate enough where the difference of 20 or 40 dollars is really not a big deal to me, but I fully recognize not everyone is in the same boat.

How many of the people threatening to quit the club have member numbers below 100,000 or 200,000?
Mine is 145xxx - member since '95, and Analog since they started it. I've already turned off my auto-renew and will be leaving the fan club when it comes up for renewal in May - not even staying digital. It's not just because of the taking away of the annual single (that we get every couple of years if we're lucky), or the latest "lack of news"letter. It's been a long time coming, and these were just the final nails in the coffin.

They haven't played my city (Las Vegas) in over 12 years and the last show I was able to travel to was L.A. in 2013; can't really afford to, nor would I want to plunk down thousands of dollars to travel to "destination" shows at baseball stadiums; the only thing the "website" really is anymore is a web store where they continue to sell overpriced merchandise, yet don't deliver items which we've paid for as a part of our membership for YEARS afterward; there's been more new vinyl for sale on PEARL JAM's store lately from other bands than PEARL JAM (I thought I signed up for PEARL JAM'S fan club?); the member t-shirts are beyond poor - material is garbage and no creativity or effort in the design whatsoever; no communication about anything, shipping is a joke, and customer service is at an all-time low.

I really dig a lot of the recent side projects and solo material various members have done over the last few years. There is just nothing Pearl Jam is doing in the last several years that excites me anymore, musically or otherwise. Whereas I used to lose my shit whenever I saw the slightest blurb about Pearl Jam in a Rolling Stone magazine, or some kind of mysterious post in the old "Rumor Pit', or a cool, surprise newsletter in the mail with some sort of engaging activity or cool collectible - Pearl Jam isn't really much more than an afterthought anymore, and a band I rarely even talk about anymore when discussing music. I get more excited seeing local bands at my local venues tearing it up, than I do at these big, overpriced, greatest hits arena shows. I'll most likely continue to buy their new studio albums when (IF) they release anything further, and when (IF) they come near my city again, maybe try for general tickets via public sale, but that's all I can muster anymore. It's been a great ride for 27+ years though, and I don't regret any of it. At this point, I know I've seen them in their prime, have been a part of some great things over the years, and have great memories, but the last few years have been a pretty good indicator of where this band is headed, and I'll just keep my $20-$40 and spend it on a few records.
    this
Pretty much exactly me, as well. I turned off auto-renew, and have until October to decide about renewing as digital. But PJ as a band is no longer interesting or exciting to me. I skipped the local Home Shows and used those same entertainment dollars to see a whole lot of smaller, local bands in smaller more fun venues in town this year. Way more bang for the buck and I'd rather support artists who could use the cash and are working their asses off at their trade. I actually love most of what the band does as individuals, but as a band - yawn. Been there, done that. I'll buy their new stuff when released (on Amazon so I can get is cheaper and more quickly than through 10c), and am not opposed to seeing them play the new Arena in Seattle in 2021 (and will get my tickets through Ticketmaster where I can select my seats and control my tickets), so the ticket benefit is no longer interesting. The only reason I'd pay the $20 is to post here, which is goofy, but I'd miss this place. lol.

None.  They’re all smarter than that

Now that you are all going to cancel your Analog membership...I am going to stay in...makes the shirt super-rare.

Guy:  Whoa...is that an analog shirt?
    Me:  Yep
    Guy:  How many were made?
Me:  This is number 1 of 1....super rare.
Guy:  Cool...will you give it to me for free?

Don’t know if codes are transferable, but it sure seems like a lot here don’t use them. I’d put some to good use!

    As stated previously, this.

i traveled to Europe this summer even going back to the canceled London show where I ended up 2nd row center stage (closest I’ve ever been) with Ed shaking my hand when he came to the rail. I’m not sure there are any more moments/experiences like this after 24 years of shows; that may be the pinnacle.

I’ve always been digital as I’m not into collecting. I will allow the renew one more time next month, but if there isn’t new music or a tour that includes more than stadiums, I’m not sure I’ll keep going with the membership; nostalgia can only go so far, and as stated above, which I didn’t even realize until I read it, I don’t talk about them much any more either.

On on the other hand, if a new album drops, and we get a more inclusive tour, game on!

Not sure if they do now but prior we couldn't transfer codes on the $9.99 digital download code. Too bad we can't use the code on a CD purchase.
