This was bound to happen.  And our national shame grows...

It's what happens when there is a government led effort to dehumanize a person.

    https://www-m.cnn.com/2018/12/30/us/arizona-migrant-child-abuse-allegations/index.html?r=https://www.cnn.com/
The qualifications for working there are minimal at best. One basically needs to not have a criminal history and be 21.

Any live body will do. And these ‘live bodies’ need to deal with traumatized children who require patience and heightened levels of understanding.

There has not been an effort made to care for and respect these helpless little humans. It’s a cold, cruel, and clinical response to the problem with roots stemming from what you stated: the dehumanization of some humans.

It’s easy to treat people poorly when you don’t see those people as people.

I don’t have the answer, but for f**ks sakes... this isn’t the answer.

  • but of course. republican thought process:

1 death by illegal immigrant: change all immigration laws and build a wall
34,000 deaths by gun in a year: change abso-fucking-lutely nothing.

makes perfect fucking sense to me.
9-11 promoted sweeping changes to airport security and freedoms.

True but that was much more than one death and threatens national security.  One can avoid those invasions by driving, train,  not going anywhere.

California authorities seek motive in triple slaying

This undated photo provided by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office shows David Gerald McNabb. California authorities are trying to determine why McNabb stabbed and beat his sister, mother and a third person to death in their home. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old David Gerald McNabb was shot to death in a confrontation Friday night, Dec. 28, 2018, when deputies entered the home in the town of Orcutt, Calif. ORCUTT, Calif. (AP) — California authorities are trying to determine why a Central Coast man stabbed and beat his sister, mother and a third person to death in their home.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said 43-year-old David Gerald McNabb was shot to death in a confrontation Friday night when deputies entered the home in the town of Orcutt.

McNabb had been a sheriff's custody deputy from July 2001 until he resigned in March 2012. His record included a September 2012 arrest in neighboring Ventura County and a 2014 conviction for felony domestic violence, the office said.

The victims were identified as his sister, 34-year-old Nicole McNabb; his mother, 64-year-old Melanie McNabb; and 63-year-old Carlos Echavarria. All lived at the scene.

A Sheriff's Office statement said the county dispatch center received a call at 8:05 p.m. from a person who entered her home and found a bloody scene inside.

"She discovered a victim covered in blood in a bathtub, fled the residence and called for help," it said without identifying that person.

Responding deputies entered the home, contacted the suspect and determined he was armed with a rifle, the statement said.

Emergency notifications were sent to the neighborhood telling people to shelter in place, and the sheriff's special tactical unit and hostage negotiators were summoned.

Deputies learned there were additional people inside and made further entry into the residence.

"They made contact with the armed suspect, a confrontation ensued during which the suspect was initially shot with less lethal munitions, followed by the use of deadly force," the statement said. "The suspect was transported to a hospital by ambulance and was subsequently pronounced dead."

The three victims were found inside the home.

Orcutt is about 150 miles (241 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

I saw the story. I’m just not buying what the right wing narrative wants me too. Way more harm caused by native born “responsible” gun owners than illegals. Tighten gun laws from the birth of a gun to its death and then we can talk about the wall.

A few democrats, before they flipped, roundly supported the same things they “object” to today.  True politics, at play:

Bill Clinton, state of union 95:

“That’s why our administration has moved to aggressively secure our borders more, by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as every before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens,”

    Chuck shumer, 2009:
“When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey a message to the American people that their government is not serious about combating illegal immigration, which the American people overwhelmingly oppose,” Schumer said. “If you don’t think it’s illegal, you’re not going to say it. I think it is illegal and wrong and we have to change it."

“People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally,"

    Barack Obama:

“Those who enter the country illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of law and they are showing disregard for those who are following the law. We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.”

(Needless to say the senate vote for the secure fence act of 2006 passed 80-19, the vast majority wanted border security.)

    Hillary Clinton:

“Well, I voted numerous times when I was a Senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in, And I do think you have to control your borders."

“We've got to do several things and I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants. I made this exception basically on humanitarian grounds because of the individual story but certainly we've got to do more at our borders. And people have to stop employing illegal immigrants. Come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties, stand in the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx - you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work."

"As to illegal aliens, we agree with you that the comprehensive health care benefits should not be extended to those who are un-documented workers and illegal aliens. We do not want to do anything to encourage more illegal immigration into this country. We know now that too many come for medical care, as it is. We certainly don't want them to have the same benefits that American citizens are entitled to have."

I'm like an opening band for your mom.

The Democrats offered 25 billion to secure the border, just not for a wall.  Why is it so difficult to understand the nuance?  E-verify, more guards at the crossing stations to inspect more vehicles, drones, cameras, etc.  No one is arguing against it.  But the wall is a symbol, you know, I know, Trump knows it.  It's ineffective but his campaign promise.  Sorry, my tax dollars should not go to support his stupid mouth.
  • I agree that tighter border security would be in the US' best interest.

I don't think a wall is the answer. I think physical barriers are necessary at various points, but 5 billion for a big whopper? So that Mexicans can practice their spray painting techniques? Americans can yell from the other side, "Hey. Come on guys. Leave the wall alone."

Didn't existing border controls turn back the caravan? Is it supposed to take the place of border personnel? I see just as many people working as ever, plus the addition of wall maintenance people.

what would be the point of spending 25 billion instead of 5 billion just because of symbolism?  If the money isn’t what’s important, spend less and put up the wall- call it a fence if you want.  After all isn’t it Pelosi who distinguishes the two as two different things?

Do you think an end to end border wall only cost 5 billion?
Plus, if you ask me if I'd rather flush $5 down the toilet or spend $25 on a new PJ album, I think I'd rather do the latter.  That's the choice here.

I think even trump has said that the border security wants it to be fence-like because they want to be able to see through it.  Remember reading that somewhere.  So it’s not like spray paint would be an issue.

also, it’s not at the crossing points that the issue exists, it’s the space in between where there needs to be a wall- migrants looking to pass through illegally use the dangerous areas in between to cross often times

Well we may have a long time to wait for that new album :)

and no, it will cost a lot more than that- the 5 billion would help build in spots that it is most needed.  Then environmental studies and others could be done and we could see how it is working/not working.  That way we could either go forward with more or stop and leave it as it is

Don't you guys have a massive military? Isn't there any way to develop a system where they are employed along sectors of the border as they train?

The desert regions would be fantastic geographical replications of the middle east where you guys seem to like being.

Well then we’d have to spend billions on building military bases along the border.  Not sure that’s the answer, I think we spend too much on our military already.  Besides, that would be apocalyptic looking, I think a simple barrier makes more sense.

I'm personally fine with, and I imagine the D caucus is fine with repairing existing structure, but not new ones.

Trump is already sending mixed signals on the issue, which is his personal way of capitulating.  I believe he will cave, but we shall see.
