Horse racing yay or neigh?

I had never gone so last year my wife and sister and I went to Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley to see some races. At first it was kind of fun but we went down to get a closer look at the horses, I noticed that these beautiful animals did not look very content (If you love animals, it's pretty easy to ready their moods). We went back into the grandstands and my sister started pulling up all this information on her iPhone about the realities of horse racing. I did some research on my own at home later and am now totally against this "sport". I've heard racing enthusiasts defend horse racing to no end but I won't get into any arguments over it. I've heard all the defenses and none of them hold any water for me.

I feel like it ought to be a pretty general rule in a civilized society that any task which requires whipping flesh to complete is a task which is better left undone.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0

and then what happened in the Melbourne cup.... cliffsofmoher shatters his shoulder at 600m and is euthanized on the track. footage is deliberately cut from the race. I saw it later, the poor thing was trying to slow down on 3 legs.0

You know what happens to the horses if you axe the horse racing industry. Those horses will be put down.Give Peas A Chance…0

Totally against. We went once just because I'd never gone. While we were at the races, one of the people I was with pulled up some disturbing information on her iPhone about the cruelties to these fine beasts, Never again! Will not support this!

I was recently listening to a radio interview and it seems like a lot of horses that are not appropriate or wanted for sport riding end up being auctioned off and killed for meat. I don’t know if ex-racing horses would fit into that category or not.HughFreakingDillon said:

I don't know either. But what I do know is that what happens as a one time thing to existing racing horses is not a good argument to keep the practice going.oftenreading said:
