I don't like how black and white the deportation process can sometimes be here.

Driving drunk is not vandalism. You can alter so many lives. But you likely care more for criminals and root on politicians who are soft on crime. Have a nice day...Give Peas A Chance…0 -

yes, stiffer sentences for drunk drivers are absolutely something I stand behind.
I do not care more for criminals and root on politicians who are soft on crime. literally no one does that. it's a right wing talking point based in zero reality. I am for stiffer sentences, but for people to be treated humanely once behind bars. that is not "soft on crime" or 'caring for criminals". it is wanting to be a better species.
you said you have no use for Beto because he was convicted of driving while intoxicated, admitting his crime, paying his debt to society, and owning his mistakes in public, yet you think a "former" neo nazi is someone who canada should want to have in their country because "people change".

She’s going back where she belongs...good.So you're opposed to government fixing mistakes or changing decisions to align with what the citizens want?I never understood this kind of reaction to these kinds of things. It makes no sense. This is the government doing its job. We should only hope that it does it more often. Yes, ideally you want everything it does to go the way you like the first time... But that's not realistic. Most of the time, government won't budge after decisions are made. When they do because of public outcry, we should be glad, not mad (and btw, this does not count for when governments create their own humanitarian crisis and then take credit for ending the crisis, lol... before some yahoo throws the kids in cages incident at me or something).

But they only did because of pressure placed upon them. They figured everything was cool. They are who they are. I'm out on this Liberal government.

They are answering to what the people want even though they saw it differently. And to be fair, this wasn't some kind of evil action on their part. I think we all have to admit that, whether we agree with their views on it or not (either specifically or in general), their views in this case at least came out of good intentions with real reasons behind them, not bad intentions with no rhyme or reason. It could be fucking worse. For me, there are some things I very much dislike with this government, and others things I like very very much.... They certainly did come through on literally every issue that made me vote for them in the first place, so obviously I can't feel too down on them, despite some of the shit that I've not liked (helps that I predicted pretty much all of that stuff I don't like when I voted for them. I chose to take the bad with the good on that vote, which is probably as good as it can get anyhow, since no party matches all of my views completely... not even close). I am 99% certain I'll vote for them again. None of the other parties are doing it for me at all right now. I wish Jack Layton had never died.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Great news!
In short, in 2011 a weirdo abducts a toddler boy and eventually returns him four days later (unharmed). He's now been released and is moving to Vancouver. The Correctional Services have assessed him as a high risk for violent and sexual for re-offending.
Isn't this fantastic?

So are you two happy about this, or no? I wondered if this was a point for the feds in your minds or what.

A civil liberties group is calling out the federal government for a perceived double standard, questioning how it can appeal a ruling against solitary confinement while at the same time saying it is trying to end the controversial practice.

Or maybe pure stupidity, I'm not really sure.I was being tongue in cheek a little bit - sorry. It was an arguably bitchy way to start a conversation about solitary confinement, and it went over like a bag of bricks. FWIW, the appeal is clearly being done because the feds want to control the issue and take the credit. Once they've done that on a federal level, provinces will be free to enact it on the provincial level, using the federal legislation as their framework. In other words, they want to go top down with it. Yes, it's scummy (with possibly legit legal considerations too), but it's not a double standard.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
