Former prime minister Brian Mulroney, whose government once introduced legislation to keep marijuana in the same legal category as heroin.
I guess I was wrong. Cannabis was never on Mulroney's radar as PM ...

More than 60% of Canadian object to mandatory minimum sentences for murder.
This article looks at the effect of mandatory minimums on those offenders like " the 18-year-old Indigenous teen who kills her abusive drug dealer" or a woman who kills her abusive husband and argues for greater discretion in sentencing.
However, I'm guessing some of you will still call them animals who deserve the DP.

I've always contended the circumstances surrounding the crime need to be taken into account.
A scumbag raping and murdering an 8 year old is a far cry from a beaten down woman trying to escape a harmful relationship.
However, I'm guessing some of you will still call child rapist/murderers misguided people that deserve healing houses and comfort and love."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
I think it was in this thread that the issue of CPP investments in the US for-profit prisons was raised. Here's an article about that. Basically what you'd expect - passively managed funds that contain a lot of different companies. The actual values are small monetarily, and very small percentage-wise - 0.001% of total investments. Still, it is possible for them to avoid investments in arms sales and prisons if they choose to, and I think they should.

And finally, for the trifecta, this strikes me as such a classically Canadian headline:
"If Canada Post goes on strike, how will I get my weed?"

I am not referring to you specifically. However, I think you have argued for mandatory minimum sentences for murder, correct?my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -

One idiot. One stupid idiot in opposition. Lol. What an idiot.Yeah, Elizabeth May, unfortunately. I discovered the true level of her idiocy when this happened:It's really too bad, because I would like for the Green Party to have a non-idiotic leader. As it is, I don't consider the Green Party a viable option when I vote. If their leader wasn't this silly twit, I would strongly consider it, at least sometimes.

Brian Bowman re-elected as Winnipeg mayor, but vote to open Portage and Main to pedestrian traffic was voted down. Boggles my mind how much time has been spent on this topic. hopefully this city can move on to its next nonsensical argument.By The Time They Figure Out What Went Wrong, We'll Be Sitting On A Beach, Earning Twenty Percent.0

Civic politics often seems to involve these sorts of issues that just drag on for a completely inordinate amount of time. Here in Victoria, it is the sewage treatment issue. It's been discussed for as long as I've lived here almost 15 years now, and still no resolution.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -
