Seeing the band 200 times I'm weirded out about. Going to a PJ gig is possibly my favourite thing in the world to do-I've done it nine times in seven countries and I treasure every chance I get-and would have seen a lot more. However 200? I reckon I'd lose the enjoyment of it especially after having seen pretty much every song I'd love to see and getting a buzzkill if I didn't see a white whale.

Backspacer is my favourite album since Yield and Amongst The Waves blew me away as much as any old stuff if not more.

When Matt Chamberlain replaced Matt Cameron for the Soundgarden tour I was thinking I'd kinda prefer him staying with Soundgarden and Dave Krusen playing with Pearl Jam again instead-the Jack Irons stuff would sound better with his backbeat.

Using any of the following phrases is really really lame:
    1. Uncle Neil (you aren’t in the band and he isn’t your uncle.)

This is kind of in line with saying "We won the division this year" but the person is not a member of a pro sports team.  They are a fan.

Isn’t that something Pearl Jam calls them?  If you are a fan can’t you just say “I like Neil young”?

One of the highlights of this tour. Amazing.
one of the highlights of wrigley 2 for me was that it wasn’t played.

    Exactly!
I'm pretty sure that Ed says "We" when talking about the Cubs.  But then again, he's friends with half the team, the manager, the GM, the owners, groundskeeper... so maybe he can get away with it.  lol.

Oceans is a terrible opener. Every other song they open with is better.
    Sirens is a great song.
Ten is probably their 3rd, maybe 4th best record.
Backspacer is almost unlistenable, but Lightning Bolt is pretty damn good.
Most grunge/90's Seattle music is garbage.
I'd rather not go see PJ than sit in the stand at a stadium.
Waiting more than 10 minutes for merch is a waste of time.

  • They should have sets that focus on the music over the vocals.   A 3 hour set of

Inside Job, long form Rearviewmirror, SRV version Little Wing (ie no vocals, just Mike), etc. would be awesome.

And it it would save Ed’s choice for the next night of “shorts” filled with Lukin, Blood, Leash, etc.

    Night 1 -12 songs
    night 2 - 47.5 songs

Jack Irons seems confused and provides no spark whatsoever when he played live with PJ.

Love this ... first time i've read the entire contents of a thread this long in a very long time.

    - Off He Goes is twice as long as it needs to be ... people totally are tuned out by the time it's over when played live
    - I love unique covers ... Rebel Rebel and Taillights Fade were great this year and I'd much rather hear something like that than a mediocre cut from Binaural or Riot Act for the 4th time (hello Insignificance and I Am Mine)
    - Down sucks ... and Sirens is great
    - I am all for the band taking time to promote their causes even though i am indifferent to many of them

    - Of The Earth is one of PJs best songsson
    - Can’t Deny Me is awesome live
    - I love the outdoor shows
    - Don’t like Jeremy or Dissident
    - Ole is an ok song. Can’t understand the way people trash it.
    - I can’t stand Dave Matthews Bands music. Just terrible.
    - I have always thought Dave A drumming was just ok
    - I love when PJ do covers and don’t want less of them
    - Binaural for me is one of PJs best albums.
I disagree only at DMB comment and about jeremy and dissident, i dont like wishlist and just breathe live

    1) Leatherman is a real gem.
    2) PJ's Pentalogy (Leatherman / Better Man / Nothingman / Dead Man / Man of the Hour) can make any single concert a truly unique experience.
    3) I really want to hear Leatherman II.

-- I, too, prefer outdoor shows.
-- Of the Earth is a decent song, but easily the most overrated and overhyped of the band's catalog.
-- Other songs I don't quite understand all the love for - Black, Marker in the Sand, The End
-- I wish Yellow Ledbetter would be retired forever
-- Songs most hate/don't care for but I enjoy - The Fixer, Ole, My Father's Son, Just Breathe, Sleeping By Myself, Can't Deny Me
-- Dave A isn't as relevant as people think
-- Backspacer and Lightning Bolt are underappreciated
    -- Covers are awesome
-- Nirvana (aside from Nevermind), Soundgarden (aside from Superunknown), Mudhoney, & Sleater-Kinney make hardly any music I want to listen to
    I'll also add:
-- Nine Inch Nails original version of Hurt is 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999x better than Johnny Cash's cover!
Saw Trent play Hurt last month in PHX. Amazing song, but you have way too many 9s. It may be better period. But as a non Cash person, when Trent ended the show with this song, I instantly thought Cash (and the show was better than a lot of PJ shows I’ve been to)

    - I think it's weird Eddie doing some songs entirely solo at PJ gigs - like he's Neil Young or something.... why not have the full band on the songs. Is it they who need a longer break?!

Too many covers? London bootleg arrived today, 3 covers in a 3 hour set, 30+ songs. I am more than happy with that ratio. Being a metal head, I have seen bands like Marilyn Manson play a 45 minute set at festivals and still put 2 or 3 covers in. Now thats inexcusable.
