    I do this myself.

I wouldn't trust Heinz to get the perfect ratio. And everyone who does this has his/her own perfect ratio. Dumb move.

There's horseradish and hooker pee in Russian dressing, in addition.

No. Russian dressing has a kick to it (peppers, horseradish, etc.).

What it is is fry sauce.

Aside: Can you even find Russian dressing anymore? Most reubens I order these days seems like they're using thousand island in lieu of Russian dressing.

You aren't going to a proper Jewish deli then.  Come out my way and you'd be in heaven.

We've only got one where I live now. And I still think a fuckin' goy runs the joint.

Shelsky's was a daily stop for me in Brooklyn, and even they used thousand island on their reuben. Katz still used Russian dressing, but that was a schlep.

I miss Langers - home of the world famous #19: hand cut pastrami, cole slaw, russian dressing, swiss cheese on double-baked rye bread

Best pastrami I have ever had.  (And yes....NYC peeps, I have had some wonderful pastrami in NY as well.  Langer's is better!)  ;)

That sandwich needs a go-around on the griddle, goddamn it. And there's just no excuse for not having a barrier between the slaw the rye. That is a fuckup of monumental proportions.

    (Yes, I'd still eat it.)

The Russian is the barrier, right?  A generous portion on each piece of bread before the sammy is made.  Sorta like putting Mayo on a burger bun to provide protection from the grease ruining the bun?

I only see Russian on one side of the rye. Nevertheless, MELTED Swiss should be the barrier between the slaw and the GRILLED rye slathered with Russian on BOTH sides.

(And I'd still eat the fuckin' thing.)

I ordered at Herschel's East Side Deli @ Reading Terminal Market last year (actually, perhaps earlier this year?) and it was fucking great.  Had them grill it.
I'm a fan of both ways.
You get respect as a customer ordering this sammie.  Nobody fucking questions "pastrami, cole slaw, swiss, Russian on Rye" order. Clearly you are a lover of fine foods.
