Was supposed to fly back to the island via Seattle but Seattle is essentially grounded due to smoke. I might get as far as Seattle but won’t get home tonight, which throws a bomb into my work schedule.
Family is headed to Seattle tomorrow to watch a ball game and then fly out to Orange County and Disneyland on Tuesday.
Darn. I hope things improve.
(and sorry to hear of your predicament)
On the bright side, they almost completely dispensed with security screening, in order to accommodate the thousands of people in line. Shoes stayed on, everything stayed in the bags, and you just walked through the metal detector instead of the body scanner. That part was good.
We've arrived.
It's bad, but not too too bad. We have 24 hours before we are scheduled to depart. I'm liking our chances."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
We’ve got a nice haze of smoke this morning in the TX panhandle that a cold front pulled in from the fires north and west. Having air quality warnings and everything. Crazy to think about how far that smoke is traveling.0

It's so bad it's making it difficult to work. The smoke is inside our office, burning our eyes and throats. I'm also feeling a little lightheaded from it. This sucks!! There was a day and a half of more clear air before the weekend, but besides that, we haven't seen the sun clearly in a couple of weeks.
Today and for the next couple of days it's going to be worse than ever, and then apparently they expect it to clear up.... I guess there is a silver lining here though - the smoke is blocking the heat from the sun, so the temperature has been many degrees cooler than it would have been otherwise... Not too much comfort though when you're breathing in smoke all day and night.
(In BC, this is all just because of summer drought and heat from climate change btw - Most of BC is indigenous forest, and we are simply not getting the amount of rain we need anymore during the warmer months to keep all the forests that are natural to our region from going up like packs of matches)Thirty Bills Unpaid said:oftenreading said:Thirty Bills Unpaid said:oftenreading said:I am currently stuck in San Francisco airport. Thanks Brian. Yes, lovely, isn't it? The tourists must be especially thrilled.
It is more clear today though... Apparently they expect it to get worse after this break we're seeing this morning, and then they think it was actually clear out on Thursday. Can't wait!!

And here is a story making the rounds on local news channels, to lighten the mood, lol. There is a group in Spokane, where BC's smoke is pretty heavy, that is trying to get everyone in the city to put a bunch of industrial fans on their roofs to try and blow all the smoke back to Canada.
Everyone assumed they were joking, but according to the person leading the campaign, they're serious, hahaha.

Worst smoke day so far in metro Van. This fucking sucks. 5his is the first day when it's actually making me cough consistently, and I can actually really taste it. Kind of a burny feeling on my tongue. I just read that they calculated breathing here today is equivalent to smoking 7.8 cigarettes. Just today!

I think this must be the map C. mentioned:Flames are where the biggest fires are, red ball are new fires, orange balls are smaller fires."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

I figure it's each person's choice as to whether or not they evacuate. They just have to know that nobody will come and help them if things get out of control/deadly for them.
