Not sure why this is in the Trump thread. Dude was a huge douche, and yes my money is on he voted for Trump. I could find some real douches who didn’t too. I hope the first cop received some disciplinary action too.
If you haven’t noticed, bigots feel validated by trump, which is a green light to do this stuff.

I just don’t agree with that. Only a very small number do and they were trash before Trump came along.
Its just a pet peeve of mine when the worst example is taken and applied to everyone, which was what this looked like to me.
How long has it been since we’ve had this many GOP nazis running for office?

I just saw Auschwitz in Krakow. I know what a nazi is. These guys aren’t nazis and you are not a good person for making the comparison.

(I used to go back on forth on whether one who used this comparison was either dumb or not a good person and I have concluded following the trip that the answer is not a good person.)

    I call BS.
Are you doubting I was there? I wouldn’t be surprised as you’re big into conspiracies. I must be lying. Sorry though...I was there and saw it in depth. Those who make the comparison between today’s GOP and the nazi’s are not good people and should be ashamed.
No, I don’t doubt that you were there but I doubt your comparison and claim that because you were at Auschwitz that you seemingly portray yourself as all knowing regarding Nazi history and that no comparisons can be made. Since you were there, in what year was Auschwitz constructed or opened and when did it cease operations?
People like you who excuse the actions of the Team Trump Treason Administration are not “good” people.

All knowing? It didn’t make me all knowing. It just helped me settle the “dumb” vs “not good person” problem I was wrestling with.
Way to answer the questions. Maybe you weren’t there?

I will be happy to play Auschwitz trivia once you explain to everyone on here how that African Americam mother with a brick is the beginning of the nazi movement in America.
Sorry, I asked you first. “Auschwitz trivia?” Are trivializing what occurred at Auschwitz? Is it a joke to you? For the purpose of scoring political points? You claimed you were there. I asked you two basic questions that you should have been able to answer easily, if you were there. “Auschwitz trivia.”

As has been pointed out here previously when you become trivia question guy it is an obvious act of desperation. In this case it’s quite clear that you trivialize Nazi atrocities everytime you make a comparison to the current political climate in the US. I have called you out on it and am voicing my disgust. It cheapens the memories of the victims of the holocaust and shows you to be “not a good person”

This claim of yours with respect to that woman was wrong to make:

“Isn’t this how it began in Nazi Germany before the holocaust? You know, gangs of roving Hitler supporters beating and intimidating those they found unworthy? “

It doesn’t take knowing the dates of 1940-45 (give or take) to understand that.

You clearly don’t know history and your alleged visit to Auschwitz didn’t help. Those who excuse Team Trump Treason’s Administration policies, time and time again, are not good people. The African American woman beating a 91 year old of Mexican descent with a brick is but of one example in an ever growing list of examples that I do not see you or your side condemning. Repeatedly. “Give or take?” I guess the experience really settled in, didn’t it?

Why the focus on the perpetrator’s race? Another offhand way to dismiss the event? Trivialize it? Victim blaming? Your dismissal of what is going on makes you as guilty as those who knew and yet, did nothing. Not good people.

Are you doubting I was there? I wouldn’t be surprised as you’re big into conspiracies. I must be lying. Sorry though...I was there and saw it in depth. Those who make the comparison between today’s GOP and the nazi’s are not good people and should be ashamed.

Are you denying the societal and political similarities between the initial stages of the Nazi party and these days with the GOP?

I'm not saying we are on a collision course with another Holocaust, but I am saying the US is conducting itself in a somewhat parallel manner. We should be very aware of such behaviour and should demand changes when such behaviour rears its ugly head- not build memorials afterwards with slogans like 'lest we forget'.
Yes I am denying the similarities and no your country is not moving in a parallel manner. Not even close. Your hate for his policies not withstanding.

The 'similarities' have been well documented and I'm not going to bother regurgitating them. You can compare these crude first steps to many other brutal events in history too if you wanted (Rwanda, Yugoslavia, etc.). Of course, you can also scoff at them in an off-hand way too.

I would like to recommend a book to you titled, In The Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. It details the rise of the Nazi party- in particular during the years 1933 to 1937- from the perspective of the American Ambassador's at that time.

Many German socialites and commoners defended the Nazi party during this era as well- never fearing it would grow too extreme (they scoffed... or worse... they were thrilled).

I'm from Canada for the record.
I would second this book as well.  I just finished it and I find Erik Larson to be a superb researcher whose book documented the slow slide towards Hitler's ultimate plan.  I'm not saying that is where we are heading but dismissing parallels out of hand is how we keep getting into situations in which we proclaimed 'never again' and yet we saw Cambodia, Rwanda, Myanmar....
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

I am not focusing on her race. You had an assumption in your head of who the perpetrator was based on that poorly written CNN article. You jumped to Nazi.

You nailed it. The size of it was what really threw me. Auschwitz is big but Birkenau is massive. I was pretty much able to see everything...I don’t think anything was off limits. They take you right into one of the gas chambers which is just horrific but I think what left the largest impression on me was the sorted belongings of all the victims....shoes, eyeglasses, brushes and human hair! All pretty horrific and I was very glad that I went.

So what’s the thoughts on Kavanaugh? Seems to me it could have been much worse (meaning way more conservative) for the left.
Of the 3 finalists, I think he was the best pick. Well educated and experienced. I don't particularly like his Catholicism, or his love of expanded presidential powers. I don't think he'll be particularly friendly toward roe v wade or LGBTQ issues. Funny that he worked for Ken Starr during Whitewater, but now doesn't think sitting presidents should face indictments or civil action because they're distracting to the job. I'm guessing that is all that Trump needed to hear. I also thought it was funny that the very first thing he said in his acceptance speech (which was pretty political for a jurist) was "Throughout this process, I have witnessed firsthand your [Trump's] appreciation for the vital role of the American judiciary." Laughable, since even Gorsuch, when he was in the confirmation process expressed dismay at Trump's attitude toward the judiciary.

Kavanaugh will fall to the right of Gorsuch and the left of Thomas. Definitely tips the scales to the right, unlike Kennedy who could make the scales tip either way depending on the case being heard.

Why don’t you like “his Catholicism”?

thst in itself isn’t bad in your mind is it? One can be of a religion and do there job without the bias of the religion no?
Right, not Catholicism per se, but when one touts one's religious affiliation early on in an introductory speech, mentions close relationships with local clergy, has kids in religious schools, volunteers at a Catholic charity (ps volunteering is great!), it speaks volumes to me. It is clearly something that defines him and his viewpoints, and many decisions are informed by that. Hence anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice.
I’m guessing you’d scream and shout about a Muslim judge then too?

Im a bit like you, I have an initial reaction to all of that. But I’m trying not to cause they are allowed to have their beliefs so long as they do their jobs based on the law.

Agreed. As long as they do their jobs based on the law, I'm fine with whatever religion. But my initial reaction, whether they be a Christian sect, a practicing Muslim or an orthodox Jew would be the same. I have an immediate concern that their "higher" laws, dictated by their belief in mythologies, would unduly influence their decision making.
    Yeah i got ya.

It's like Trump's thought bubbles are in this thread.

This kind of hateful  ignorant behavior did not happen  during Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, or Obama.....

Trump's America. These deplorable folks clearly feel emboldened. It's not surprising.

I was using their own term they identify themselves as. I use white supremacist personally, if that makes you happy.

Two instances of Nazi candidates running for the GOP. Or do you prefer Holocaust denier? Counter-Semitic??

So you went to Auschwitz and came away with the conviction that people who are concerned about increasing violence against minorities and demonization of immigrants are the “bad people”. Congratulations - you completely failed to grasp the point.

Two instances? It’s the same instance at two different links. Either way this scumbag is not being embraced by the GOP at all even if he tries to run under it’s name.

With respect to your second point I have zero problem with concerns about the treatment of minorities or the demonization of immigrants. I share those concerns. The republican party shares those concerns. The people who I think are “not good” are those who will compare voters concerned about illegal immigration to nazis. The guy in your link is a nazi. The standard GOP voter is not. Trump is not. Calling them nazis is a sick scare tactic that abuses a real atrocity. It abuses the memory of those who suffered under that atrocity.
