Just wondering, do Canadians say "mall" like the Americans or "shopping centre" like Aussies do?
both. the one close to me is called St Vital Shopping Centre, but when people talk about where they are going, they either shorted it to St Vital Mall or just "the mall".
And sometimes they are also technically called "so-and-so town centre" on the signs, but hardly anyone says that out loud in my experience. They do indeed normally just change it to "mall" in conversation.

As others have stated, it’s known by both descriptors.

I can handle the occasional heat wave in exchange for being in that city.

Canadians are, on the whole, nice.

Shopping Centre sounds better than mall.
Here it's known as shopping centre but we never say that, we refer to the name of the centre.

I haven’t been to many places, but of the places I’ve been, the only people nicer than Canadians were Minnesotans. Which may as well be Canada.

  • Truthfully... they're very similar.

As much as I poke fun at America, I've encountered some of the nicest people one could hope to encounter anywhere on an individual basis. I've loved my experiences in California, Nevada, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and- most frequently- Washington.

It's the collective whole where you can distinguish differences. Canada tends to be empathetic with the less fortunate and support mechanisms to assist people in need- regardless of circumstance. Likewise, Canada supports social programs like medical; whereas, many Americans tend to be a little less tolerant and a little less inclined to support social programs (I think socialism is a dirty word for many).
